The Snow Leopard
This is the account of a journey to the dazzling Tibetan plateau of Dolpo in the high Himalayas. In 1973 Matthiessen made the 250-mile trek to Dolpo, as part of an expedition to study wild blue sheep. It was an arduous, sometimes dangerous, physical endeavour: exertion, blisters, blizzards, endless negotiations with sherpas, quaking cold.
But it was also a 'journey of the heart' - amongst the beauty and indifference of the mountains Matthiessen was searching for solace. He was also searching for a glimpse of a snow leopard, a creature so rarely spotted as to be almost mythical. Fully Human
A mother of small children trusts her 'gut feelings' and it saves her life.
A young dad is able to grieve for his lost baby - using a song.
What if there were parts of our minds which we never use, but if awakened, could make us so much happier, connected and alive? What if awakening those parts could bring peace to the conflicts and struggles we all go through?
From the cutting edge, where therapy meets neuroscience, Steve Biddulph explores the new concept of 'supersense' - the feelings beneath our feelings - which can guide us to a more awake and free way of living every minute of our lives. And the Four-storey Mansion, a way of using your mind that can be taught to a five-year-old, but can also help the most damaged adult.
In Fully Human, Steve Biddulph draws on deeply personal stories from his own life, as well of those of his clients, and from the frontiers of thinking about how the brain works with the body and the wisdom of the `wild creature' inside all of us. At the peak of a lifetime's work, one of the world's best-known psychotherapists and educators shows how you can be more alive, more connected. More FULLY HUMAN.

Once Upon a Time I Lived on Mars
A powerful reflection on life in isolation, in pursuit of the dream of Mars.
In 2013 Kate Greene moved to Mars.
On NASA's first HI-SEAS simulated Mars mission in Hawaii, she lived for four months in an isolated geodesic dome with her crewmates, gaining incredible insight into human behaviour in tight quarters, as well as the nature of boredom, dreams and isolation that arise amidst the promise of scientific progress and glory. Greene draws on her experience to contemplate what makes an astronaut, the challenges of freeze-dried eggs and time-lagged correspondence, the cost of shooting for a Planet B.
The result is a story of space and life, of the slippage between dreams and reality, of bodies in space, and of humanity's incredible impulse to explore.
From trying out life on Mars, Greene examines what it is to live on Earth.
'In her thoughtful, well-written account of the mission, Greene reflects on what this and other space missions can teach us about ourselves and life on Earth.' Physics Today

Boxed & Labelled 2
The suggestive power of packaging as a communication tool. Packaging is the face of a product. Packaging not only gives a product its visual identity, but it can also determine where that product is placed on a crowded store shelf and can be the crucial factor in determining our decision to buy. Over the last few years, however, the understanding of the role of packaging has changed. In the past, packaging was thought of as an extension of the product's print advertising campaign--as a mere projection screen for established logos and brand messages. Today, packaging is considered to be a self-contained facet of an overall communication concept. Boxed and Labelled 2 documents the main strategic directions that exist in current packaging design--all of which address a longing for "truthfulness." One of these directions is an increased tendency to emphasize the tried and true values of a product, for example, with a retro look that aims for an "Ah, just like grandma used to make!" reaction. Another direction is down-to-earth rather than in-your-face packaging, including unostentatious solutions made of recycled paper that play up a product's connection to nature. On the other end of the design spectrum, there is also packaging that gives a product a distinct look and feel through a very playful use of graphic design, patterns, and illustration. Because our relationship to food products has changed so drastically in the last few years, especially in regard to the importance we place on the source and quality of ingredients, the majority of the examples in Boxed and Labelled 2 are food-related. But other examples from a wide spectrum of products also highlight the traits that distinguish those on the cutting edge of the evolution in packaging concepts. Although the work in Boxed and Labelled 2 ranges from minimalistic to whimsical, from clear-cut to ambiguous, all of the featured examples deliver their own unique brand values and experiences. With its inspiring and entertaining selection of products that stand apart in the competitive marketplace, this book is a compelling exploration of the communication power of stateof-the-art packaging design today.

Liberation Day
The first short story collection in ten years from the Man Booker Prize-winning, New York Times-bestselling author of Lincoln in the Bardo
MacArthur genius and Booker Prize-winner George Saunders returns with a collection of short stories that make sense of our increasingly troubled world, his first since the New York Times bestseller and National Book Award finalist Tenth of December
The 'best short story writer in English' (Time) is back with a masterful collection that explores ideas of power, ethics, and justice, and cuts to the very heart of what it means to live in community with our fellow humans. With his trademark prose - wickedly funny, unsentimental, and perfectly tuned - Saunders continues to challenge and surprise: here is a collection of prismatic, deeply resonant stories that encompass joy and despair, oppression and revolution, bizarre fantasy and brutal reality.
'Love Letter' is a tender missive from grandfather to grandson, in the midst of a dystopian political situation in the not-too-distant future, that reminds us of our obligations to our ideals, ourselves, and each other. 'Ghoul' is set in a Hell-themed section of an underground amusement park in Colorado, and follows the exploits of a lonely, morally complex character named Brian, who comes to question everything he takes for granted about his 'reality.' In 'Mother's Day', two women who loved the same man come to an existential reckoning in the middle of a hailstorm. And in 'Elliott Spencer', our eighty-nine-year-old protagonist finds himself brainwashed - his memory 'scraped' - a victim of a scheme in which poor, vulnerable people are reprogrammed and deployed as political protesters.
Together, these nine subversive, profound, and essential stories coalesce into a case for viewing the world with the same generosity and clear-eyed attention as Saunders does, even in the most absurd of circumstances.

Creation Stories: Landscapes and the Human Imagination
An accessible exploration of how diverse cultures have explained humanity's origins through narratives about the natural environment
Drawing from a vast array of creation myths-Babylonian, Greek, Aztec, Maya, Inca, Chinese, Hindu, Navajo, Polynesian, African, Norse, Inuit, and more-this concise illustrated book uncovers both the similarities and differences in our attempts to explain the universe.
Anthony Aveni, an award-winning author and professor of astronomy and anthropology, examines the ways various cultures around the world have attempted to explain our origins, and what roles the natural environment plays in shaping these narratives. The book also celebrates the audacity of the human imagination.
Whether the first humans emerged from a cave, as in the Inca myths, or from bamboo stems, as the Bantu people of Africa believed, or whether the universe is simply the result of Vishnu's cyclical inhales and exhales, each of these fascinating stories reflects a deeper understanding of the culture it arose from as well as its place in the larger human narrative.

Catch as Catch Can
Not many writers introduce a phrase - let alone a whole idea - into the language. In Catch-22, Joseph Heller invented a motif for the modern world. The book shaped everything that came after it, establishing Heller's reputation as one of the greatest American writers of the twentieth century. But where did the author who was able to create that novel come from? And what happened to those remarkable characters? In Catch as Catch Can, Joseph Heller's stories are collected for the first time, and clearly chart the development of a genius. From Heller's recollections of his Coney Island childhood to the later stories of his greatest creation, Yossarian, Catch as Catch Can is the last great work of one of the twentieth century's most important literary figures.

The Purpose of Power
In a powerful exploration of recent racial history, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter examines the moment we're in, how we got here, and how together we can build movements to create a just and equal world.
Black Lives Matter began as a hashtag when Alicia Garza wrote what she calls 'a love letter to Black people' on Facebook. But hashtags don't build movements, she tells us. People do. Interwoven with Garza's experience of life as a Black woman, The Purpose of Power is the story of how she responded to the persistent message that Black lives are of less value than white lives by galvanizing people to create change. It's an insight into grass roots organizing to deliver basic needs - affordable housing, workplace protections, access to good education - to those locked out of the economy by racism. It is an attempt not only to make sense of where Black Lives Matter came from but also to understand the possibilities that Black Lives Matter and movements like it hold for our collective futures. Ultimately, it's an appeal to hearts and minds, demanding that we think about our privileges and prejudices and ask how we might contribute to the change we want to see in the world.
