Zsindely Ferenc neve elsősorban, mint politikus ismert a második világháború előtti évtizedből. Azonban, akik ismerik Kittenberger Kálmán Afrika-vadász közel harminc évig szerkesztett vadászlapját, a Nimródot, azok tudják, hogy a neves főszerkesztő sok kiváló vadászírót fedezett fel. Nemcsak Fekete István írásai jelentek meg először a színvonalas vadászlapban, hanem Zsindely Ferencé is. Nem publikált sokat, mert politikai elfoglaltsága erre kevés időt adott. Első könyve 1932-ben jelent meg, Isten szabad ege alatt címmel. A kötet alcíme: Elbeszélések vadról, vadászatról, vadászemberekről. A 29 elbeszélést tartalmazó vaskos kötetet öccse, Zsindely Endre fotói díszítik. 1938-ban megjelenik a második, egyben utolsó kötete, Dunárul fúj a szél címmel. A kötet színvonalát szintén testvéröccse képei emelik. 1947-ben egyik írásánál az a megjegyzés olvasható, hogy részlet a szerző kiadatlan, új könyvéből, de a kézirat elkallódott. Utolsó írása a vadászlapban 1948 márciusában jelent meg, mert magát a lapot is megszüntették ebben az évben. Politikai pályafutása az 1944. március 19-i Magyarország német megszállásával véget ért. Még néhány évig Pesten élhetett feleségével, Tüdős Klárával, aztán 1951-ben őket is utolérte a kitelepítés. Haláláig Balatonlellén házmesterként éltek, sokszor nélkülözve. A mostani kötet egy olyan válogatás, ahol az írások zöme könyvben még nem jelent meg, és a kötet végén a szerző vadászati bibliográfiája is megtalálható.
