Állandóan a nagy pofám miatt kerültem bajba. Mert nem tudom befogni a számat. De miért is tenném? Engem őszinteségre neveltek. Most végre úgy beszélhetek az életemről, hogy nem vágnak közbe, hogy nem legyintenek rám, hogy nem állítanak félre. Elmesélek hát mindent. Tudja meg mindenki, milyen volt szegénységben, a rendszer által kiszolgáltatottan élni; milyen volt a fájdalomtól üvölteni, miután csaknem ájulásig vertek a pribékek; milyen szembenézni a halállal egy repülőúton; és milyen a nincstelenségből kitörve a népszerűségben fürödni. Azt is elmondom, milyen volt a Real Madrid, az Inter, a Santos ellen pályára lépni, és Pelével, Eusebióval vagy éppen Di Stefanóval s Puskással szemben csatázni – és milyen volt abban a Vasasban játszani, amelyik akkoriban a világ legjobbjai közé tartozott. De a könnyeimről is beszélek, mert olykor zokogtam, az ég felé néztem, s üvöltöttem: miért nem sikerül nekünk, magyaroknak? Miért mi veszítünk mindig a legfontosabb pillanatokban?! A legfájóbb bukás után is nekem kellett kimondanom, a mi időnk lejárt. Na meg később is én álltam a felbőszült szurkolók elé, amikor elbuktuk a 2012-es Eb-rendezést, és én ordítottam a kamerákba, hogy „át lettünk verve… a büdös úristenit neki…”.
Vannak, akik gúnyolódnak a filmszereplésemen, de az utókornak tudnia kell arról is, mit éltem át a kispadon szövetségi kapitányként, és miként lehetett feldolgozni, hogy az évek, évtizedek alatt gyakorlatilag megszűnt a minőségi magyar futball.
Ugyanakkor szeretném, ha tíz vagy húsz év múlva is pontosan tudnák, hogy volt egyszer magyar labdarúgás. És a főszereplők között ott volt Mészöly Kálmán, a Szőke Szikla is.
