Antologie Čtení o Janu Nerudovi s podtitulem Utváření obrazu předkládá mozaikovitý portrét jedné z nejvýznamnějších osobností druhé poloviny 19. století: spisovatele a novináře Jana Nerudy (18341891). Čítanka shromažďuje třináct textů z let 1864 až 1942, a pokrývá tedy zhruba prvních osm dekád rezonance Nerudova díla. Jde jednak o kritické stati a portréty publikované za autorova života (Vilém Kienberger, Karel Sabina, Servác Heller, Jakub Arbes a J. V. Sládek), jednak o celistvější pokusy o uchopení Nerudovy osobnosti či díla napsané po jeho smrti (Eliška Krásnohorská, Jaroslav Vrchlický, Arne Novák, Miloslav Hýsek, F. X. Šalda a Karel Polák). Rámec výboru tvoří dvojice statí Felixe Vodičky a Alberta Pražáka, jež byly koncipovány pro kolektivní publikaci Kniha o Janu Nerudovi. Kniha byla připravována k vydání v roce 1941 (padesát let od úmrtí Jana Nerudy) v nakladatelství Čin, z jejího vydání však sešlo. Nerealizovaná encyklopedie měla být završením prvních několika dekád intenzivního nerudovského bádání z tohoto důvodu tvoří svorník předkládaného výboru. Texty jsou vybrány tak, aby co možná rovnoměrně pokrývaly zvolenou časovou rozlohu i mnohotvárnost Nerudovy činnosti (básník, prozaik, publicista, dramatik) a jejich chronologické uspořádání dovoluje nahlédnout postupné utváření názorů na Jana Nerudu a jeho tvorbu. Antologie je doplněna předmluvou editora a bibliografií.

Výber pojmov v tejto knihe je samozrejme obmedzený – veľa slov do nej nebolo zahrnutých a oveľa viac ich je stále prítomných len v ich vlastných kultúrach, doteraz neobjavených okolitým svetom ako zakopaný poklad. Autorka sa snažila vytvoriť čo najširší a najrozmanitejší obraz v zmysle mnohých rozdielnych kultúr, a tak aj rôznych druhov šťastia, ktoré môžeme prežívať.
Niektoré slová sú veselé, ako anglické whimsy alebo francúzske bon vivant, a iné predstavujú oveľa hlbšiu stránku nášho šťastia, ako sanskrtské átman alebo uki-okton ľudu Haudenosaunee. Všetky sú zvolené preto, lebo vykresľujú niečo prekvapivé, ale zároveň zrejmé: slová nás odlišujú aj spájajú. Každý pojem obohacuje náš pohľad na šťastie, no súčasne potvrdzuje pocit, ktorý sme poznali po celý čas.
