Wonders of Prague
This superb photographic publication presents the most beautiful, significant and interesting architectonic, cultural and natural sights of Prague. The book is conceived as a heritage trail; it leads the reader through the city and the first steps lead to the very heart of the Czech Kingdom, to the Coronation Chamber of the St. Vitus Cathedral. Then we gradually explore the rest of the city on its pages: the gem of Czech gothic - the Prague Castle and its gardens, the charming Royal Summer Palace, built by Ferdinand I as a gift to his beloved wife queen Anna. In the Hradčany Square we stop at the Schwarzenberg Palace, go to Loreta and the New World. On our walk through Prague the ancient Vyšehrad, the pride of our bygone history, must not be left out. We gradually get to know the city, its palaces, churches, monasteries and convents and interesting burgher houses, and from the ancient history we get to the last century, which gave Prague for example the cubist houses below the Vyšehrad Rock. From the busy streets we head to the pretty renaissance building - the Star Summer Palace - set in lush greenery of a game preserve of the same name; another summer residence is one of the architectonic gems of its time - the Troy Castle and its French park built on a low terrace above the Vltava on the northern edge of the city. Prague is surrounded by magnificent nature. Prague gardens are a proof of that, including the Zoological and Botanical ones, and so are the suburbs, where we can admire for example the villas in Baba, the Wild Šárka Valley or the Prokop Valley.

The Prague Cemetery
Nineteenth-century Europe - from Turin to Prague to Paris - abounds with the ghastly and the mysterious. Conspiracies rule history. Jesuits plot against Freemasons. Italian republicans strangle priests with their own intestines. French criminals plan bombings by day and celebrate black masses at night. Every nation has its own secret service, perpetrating forgeries, plots, and massacres. From the unification of Italy to the Paris Commune to the Dreyfus Affair to notorious forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, Europe is in tumult and everyone needs a scapegoat. But what if, behind all of these conspiracies both real and imagined, lay one lone man? And what if that evil genius created the most infamous document of all? Eco takes his readers on an unforgettable journey through the underbelly of world-shattering events. "The Prague Cemetery" is Umberto Eco at his most exciting, a novel immediately hailed as his masterpiece.

Malý Berlín ve Velké Praze/ Klein Berlin in Gross Prag

Tales of Old Prague Houses
The air of times long past; the strong walls from bygone centuries; narrow portals; a host of house signs and a wealth of architectural styles: these are the houses of old Prague. Small palaces are full of great secrets, the stories hidden inside their walls having long helped shape the city’s haracter and made it ever more popular. The magic of the Faust House; the Cubist beauty of the House of the Black Madonna; mysterious events connected with Sova’s Mills; tales from the former prison in the Old Vogt’s House; or the children’s stories that once played out in the Storch house: all those and many more can be found within the pages of this book, dedicated to the old buildings that we often pass without a econd thought. The stories, both well-known and nearly forgotten, have a lot to teach out about our nation’s great history; they can both entertain us and guide our steps as we wander through Prague’s ancient, mysterious and beautiful streets.

Keď ide ocko do práce
Čo robí otecko v práci, kým sa hrám v škôlke?
Hravé rýmy a milé ilustrácie zobrazujú paralely medzi pracovným dňom ocka a dňom synčeka v škôlke.
