The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-incestuous seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession. A két veronai ifjú nyomtatásban először az 1623-iki folióban jelent meg; de már előfordul Meres 1598-iki lajstromában a Palladis Tamiában Shakspere darabjai közt, mint a költőnek egyik legismertebb vígjátéka. Származási ideje valószínüleg 1591-re tehető. Nyelve, verselése, szerkezete, jellemzése azt mutatja, hogy a költő ifjukori művei közé tartozik. Meséje részben a spanyol Montemayor „Diana” czímű regényének epizódjából van véve. E regény spanyolul először 1560-ban jelent meg, s azóta nemcsak több kiadást ért, hanem majd minden európai nyelvre lefordították. Angol fordításban is megjelent 1598-ban, de kéziratban már a nyolczvanas években forgalomban s így Shaksperenek is hozzá férhető volt. Ebből epizódja kivonatban s különösen azon vonásaiban, melyekben a Shakspere színművével való megegyezés félreismerhetetlenül szembe ötlik, így szól….

Már a költo életében négy negyedrét-kiadás jelent meg e drámából, a mi nagy népszeruségét bizonyítja. Általában a kiadások számából ítélve, Hamlet kivételével, e historiák, az angol történetbol merített drámák, voltak Shakspere életében legkedveltebb muvei. II. Král Lear
Král Lear je bezpochyby jednou z největších, ne-li největší Shakespearovou tragédií. Největší proto, že všechno dění a lidské konání v ní probíhá na obrovských pláních země i nebe. Několik postav v ní přehrává drama lidského údělu. Je to hra velmi konkrétní, fyzický detail v ní hraje mimořádnou roli, zároveň hra univerzální, hra o světě, který se otřásá v základech, hra, v níž se hroutí všechny tradiční hodnoty, hra vizionářská a apokalyptická. V samém srdci této Shakespearovy tragédie je obraz poutníka a cesty. Geograficky vzato putuje Lear ze svého sídla do Doveru. Ale jako každá cesta poutníkova i Learova pouť má ještě jiný, daleko důležitější rozměr. Lear putuje z královského paláce do pusté přírody, od svých dcer Regan a Goneril ke Kordelii, od pýchy k pokoře, od panovačné a autoritářské sebestřednosti k soucitu a odpuštění, od koruny ze zlata, symbolu slávy, bohatství a moci, k věnečku z plevele a polního kvítí.
