E regény spanyolul először 1560-ban jelent meg, s azóta nemcsak több kiadást ért, hanem majd minden európai nyelvre lefordították. Angol fordításban is megjelent 1598-ban, de kéziratban már a nyolczvanas években forgalomban s így Shaksperenek is hozzá férhető volt. Ebből epizódja kivonatban s különösen azon vonásaiban, melyekben a Shakspere színművével való megegyezés félreismerhetetlenül szembe ötlik, így szól….
