A fájdalom szépsége
Jack McLachlan iparmágnás a borászat nagyágyúja, egyben Ausztrália legkapósabb agglegénye. Sikerei és vagyona miatt nem ismeretlenek számára a romantikus kapcsolatok bonyodalmai, a zűrös helyzetek elkerülése érdekében extrém szabályok szerint randevúzik, kötöttségek nélkül élvezve a gyönyörű hölgyek társaságát. Kapcsolatait üzleti megállapodásként kezeli, minden egyes alkalommal ugyanolyan feltételek szerint. Nincs hosszú távú kapcsolat. Nincs valódi személyazonosság.
Az ő játéka, az ő szabályai. Többnyire elégedett a megszokott formával, ám amikor Laurelyn Prescott belép az életébe, muszáj stratégiát váltania. Az új játékos ugyanis minden korábbitól különbözik. Jack világa a feje tetejére áll, amikor három hónapig tartó viszonyba bonyolódik a gyönyörű amerikai zenésszel.

Gerald Murnane 1939-ben született a Melbourne melletti Coburg-ban. 1974-től nyolc regénye és egy esszékötete jelent meg, s ma már a modern ausztrál irodalom élő klasszikusának számít. Szenvedélyesen érdekli a lóversenyzés, és bár élete során szinte soha nem hagyta el Victoria állam területét, helyi emigránsoktól megtanult magyarul. Egyik kedvenc könyve Illyés Gyula "Puszták népe" című kötete, mely számos művét inspirálta.

Dictionary Of Business
A dictionary of the basic business vocabulary used in both British and American English. It contains thousands of basic business terms. The terms cover all aspects of business life from the office to the stock exchange and international trade fairs. The vocabulary covers all aspects of everyday business usage, office practice, buying and selling, banking, insurance, stock exchange, warehousing and distribution. Differences between British and American usage are highlighted. The definitions are given in simple English, using only 460 words in addition to the words already listed in the dictionary. This makes it useful for students whose first language is not English. Throughout the text short quotations are given from current newspapers and magazines, to show that the terms used in the dictionary do exist in "real life". The quotes come from British, American, Canadian, Australian and Hong Kong sources. 'This is definitely the one I would recommend' - Times Educational Supplement
