Masterpieces of Fantasy Art
Fantasy art, that colorful blend of myth, muscle and sexy maidens, took off in 1923 with the launch of Weird Talesmagazine, was reinvigorated in the 1960s with The Lord of the Rings, Conan the Barbarian paperbacks with Frank Frazetta covers, and the late ’60s emergence of fantasy psychedelia. It went big in the ’70s with the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, the brilliant French magazine Métal Hurlant, and the first Star Wars film. The number of active artists peaked in that decade, but a new generation of fans discovered the genre through fantasy trading card games in the ’90s, leading to a massive interest in the art form today. Frank Frazetta’s oil paintings—when they infrequently come to market—have sold for more than $ 5 million in recent years. Fans line up at Comic-Cons to meet Boris Vallejo, Rodney Matthews, Greg Hildebrandt, Michael Whelan, and Philippe Druillet, and memorialize dead icons HR Giger, Jeffrey Catherine Jones, and Frazetta. Imagine how eagerly they’ll welcome TASCHEN’s History of Fantasy Art, including all the artists listed above and more.
This monster-sized tome features original paintings, contextualized by preparatory sketches, sculptures, calendars, magazines, and paperback books for an immersive dive into this dynamic, fanciful genre. Insightful bios go beyond Wikipedia to give a more accurate and eye-opening look into the life of each artist. Complete with fold-outs and tipped-in chapter openers, this collection will reign as the most exquisite and informative guide to this popular subject for years to come.

Modern Metals in Cultural Heritage: Understanding and Characterization
The proliferation of new metals-such as stainless steels, aluminium alloys and metallic coatings-in modern and contemporary art and architecture has made the need for professionals who can address their conservation more critical than ever. This volume seeks to bridge the gap between the vast technical literature on metals and the pressing needs of conservators, curators and other heritage professionals without a metallurgy background. It offers practical information in a simple and direct way, enabling curators, conservators and artists alike to understand and evaluate the objects under their care.
This invaluable reference reframes information formerly found only in specialised technical and industrial publications for the context of cultural heritage conservation. As the first book to address the properties, testing and maintenance issues of the hundreds of metals and alloys available since the beginning of the twentieth century, it is destined to become an essential resource for conservators, artists, fabricators, curators, collectors and anyone working with modern metals.

Once upon a time, there was a wicked fairy who cursed a line of princesses to die, and could only be broken by true love's kiss. You've heard this before, haven't you? The handsome prince. The happily-ever-after.
Utter nonsense.
Let me tell you, no one actually cares about what happens to our princesses. I thought I didn't care, either. Until I met her.
Princess Aurora. The last heir to the throne. The future queen her realm needs. One who isn't bothered that I am the Dark Grace, abhorred and feared for the mysterious dark magic that runs in my veins. Aurora says I should be proud of my gifts. That she . . . cares for me. Even though it was a power like mine that was responsible for her curse.
But with less than a year until that curse will kill her, any future I might see with Aurora is swiftly disintegrating - and she can't stand to kiss yet another insipid prince. I want to help her. If my power began her curse, perhaps it's what can lift it. Perhaps, together, we could forge a new world.
Nonsense again. Because we all know how this story ends, don't we? Aurora is the beautiful princess. And I-
I am the villain.

From the curious mind of Rowboat Watkins comes a ginormously imaginative story that is as funny as it is philosophical. How big is Big Bunny? And how will this story end? Delightfully meta and humorously subversive, Big Bunny will take its place as the next go-to story about stories.

Ethics on the Edge
In today's world, ethics can be complicated and its boundaries blurred. Should businesses go beyond their legal obligations? Should a radical thinker with an extremist following be invited to defend their position alongside more mainstream public figures? Should historical statues be taken down if the people they memorialise have fallen out of fashion? Is it ok for athletes to take any kind of supplements to enhance their performance? Should technological innovators be forced to slow down in order that policy makers - and the media - have time to predict, debate and mitigate the (ethical) consequences of innovations such as facial recognition, voice activation, and driverless cars? Is censorship ever justified? Can you still enjoy and appreciate the art if the artist has been proved to be highly unethical? These things are often not black and white and so this accessible guide, written by a world class ethics professor, is for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of ethical dilemmas and who wants to learn how to apply ethical standards to their own decision-making. Using real-life examples, Professor Liautaud sets out her framework for ethical decision-making which can be applied in all areas of life, including in business.
Learn how institutional power structures and the classic pillars of ethical decision making, such as informed consent and transparency, are being challenged (think Big Data). Consider the unforeseen ethical consequences that innovations can have on humanity (drones, for example), and the normalisation of alternative facts and the contagious spread of misinformation - such as seen in the vaccine hoax. Using historical examples, Dr Liautaud will provide the reader with the tools to better integrate ethics into our everyday thought and behaviour.
