Michelangelo
Michelangelo (1475 - 1564), one of the great artistic figures of the Renaissance, is best known as a sculptor and painter. However he was also an important and highly original architect despite asserting that architecture was not his profession. This comprehensive study examines the complex story of his architectural production from his early works in Rome at the beginning of the 16th - century through to the Florentine period between 1516 and 1534 and finally the major Roman projects from 1534 to 1564. These 31 built and planned projects include his most notable works such as the Laurentian Library at San Lorenzo (1515 - 59), with its tremendous vestibule staircase and St. Peter's Basilica in The Vatican, where he was chief architect from 1546 - 1564, designing the majestic dome that dominates the Rome skyline. These buildings demonstrate Michelangelo's imaginative use of the classical language of architecture to create a new, more unconventional version of his own. Projects are illustrated with many of Michelangelo's annotated sketches, pen-and-ink studies, plans and renderings as well as rich black and white photographs of completed buildings taken by the leading fine art photographer Gabriele Basilico. Essays by authors Giulio Carlo Argan and Bruno Contardi discuss the development of Michelangelo's architectural work including his often difficult relationships with his papal and Medici patrons, and give an insight into Michelangelo's complex architectural legacy.

London unfurled
From the author of the wonderfully unique Manhattan Unfurled comes an equally elegant, heartfelt, and unprecedented portrait of London Divided and united by its river, London is one of few cities in the world to find its essence in two profoundly different, yet nearly touching, urban characters—meaning that the Thames provides the perfect vantage point for telling a comprehensive story of this complex city. Arriving with little previous knowledge of London, Matteo Pericoli made an intensive 20-mile journey along the Thames, from Hammersmith Bridge to the Millennium Dome and back again. More than two years later, he has completed an astonishing document of his journey: two 37-foot-long pen-and-ink drawings depicting the city's north and south banks. Each drawing—presented on either side of this beautiful single-sheet accordion-style book—is rendered with loving and essay-like detail, revealing a distinct profile of London in all of its diversity: a dozen boroughs, 19 bridges, and hundreds of buildings, including the Houses of Parliament, Tate Modern, Battersea Power Station, and Millennium Wheel. Pericoli's inimitable drawings, constantly complementing and questioning each other, brought him to a better understanding of London. Both lifelong residents and those who have never visited will find that this breathtaking work of art deepens their thoughts and renews their fascination with one of the world's most impressive cities.

Dubliners
Perhaps the greatest short story collection in the English language, James Joyce's Dubliners is both a vivid and unflinching portrait of "dear dirty Dublin" at the turn of the twentieth century and a moral history of a nation and a people whose "golden age" has passed. His richly drawn characters-at once intensely Irish and utterly universal-may forever haunt the reader. In mesmerizing writing rich with evocative imagery, Joyce delves into the heart of the city of his birth, capturing the cadences of Dubliners' speech and portraying with remarkable realism their outer and inner lives. This magnificent collection of fifteen stories, including such touchstones as "Araby," "Grace," and "The Dead," and in the definitive text authorized by the Joyce estate-collated from all known proofs, manuscripts, and impressions of Dubliners to reflect the author's wishes-reveals Joyce at his most accessible and most profound.
Featuring a new introduction by acclaimed writer Colum McCann and the stunning cover art and sumptuous packaging that are the hallmarks of the Penguin Classics Graphic Deluxe series, this edition of Dubliners is worthy of the centennial of one of the twentieth century's most important books.

The Sleeping Doll
California Bureau of Investigation Special agent Kathryn Dance is an expert in kinesics: the science of interpreting behaviour. It makes her a brilliant interrogator. But she's up against Daniel Pell, a master of control who mesmerises, seduces and exploits people for his own murderous ends. A convicted killer who is known as The Son of Manson for the chilling parallels between him and the notorious ritual murderer.
To track down Pell before he destroys yet more lives, Kathyn Dance must enlist the help of four people from the killer's past. The three women who lived under his sadistic sway in the cult he once headed. And the young girl known as the Sleeping Doll, the only survivor of her family's slaughter at Pell's hands . . .
