Obě jsou ženy, jednou z nich je obžalovaná a druhou jedna z jejích obětí. K dokreslení atmosféry Ping Lu přidává výňatky ze soudobých dokumentů, které prokládají myšlenky a vnitřní monology obou hlavních ženských postav. Vzniká tak barvitá mozaika, kterou dotváří i promluvy ze soudní síně, prohlášení obžalované, názory jejích známých, reakce společnosti a úryvky tehdejších textů. Ty všechny narušují tok vyprávění i graficky a uvádějí do hry další prvek, a tím je reakce okolí na celou situaci. Ping Lu svým osobitým stylem píše o temné řece, jež se může skrývat v každém z nás. Činí tak neotřelým způsobem a v přitažlivých a do jisté míry exotických kulisách asijské společnosti a pro českého čtenáře vzdáleného Tchaj-wanu. Touhy cloumající postavami se však stejně dobře mohou týkat i nás a naší společnosti a mít na nás katalyzační účinek.
