Alison Bechdelová (dosud známá svým kresleným seriálem Dykes to Watch Out For) shromáždila obrázky, které si malovala od sedmé třídy, deníky, které si psala od deseti let, mapy jednoho malého městečka v Pennsylvánii, staré papírky se seznamy nákupů, fotky, dopisy, vstupenky, a od matky dostala krabici dopisů po otci. Za nejméně přesný materiál považuje svoje vzpomínky. Několik let pracovala jako při terapii na svém knižním debutu: rodinné tragikomedii o svém úzkém, ale složitém vztahu s otcem. Kdybych si ten příběh měla vymyslet jako spisovatelka, nestál by za nic, tvrdí Bechdelová. Přesto vzniklo vzácně komplexní literární dílko, které zaujme jak svými ilustracemi, tak doprovodným textem.

Hlavním tématem osmého AARGH!u je vztah komiksu a Ruska. Ústřední esej o historii a současnosti ruského komiksu sepsal speciálně pro AARGH! americký teoretik José Alaniz. Jeho text je doplněn článkem Rostislava Matulíka o invazi sovětských námětů do českého komiksu v době normalizace a medailonem Yaroslava Horaka, syna českého legionáře a ruské emigrantky, který proslul jako kreslíř stripů s Jamesem Bondem. Aktuální stav ruské scény navíc demonstruje desítka komiksů tamních tvůrců.
Druhým pilířem aktuálního čísla jsou vracející se postavy. Jejich situaci v Česku stručně rekapituluje esej Dobří hrdinové se vracejí a v historickém exkurzu se představí tvůrce Emil Posledník, který za I. republiky vypustil do světa řadu postaviček s touto ambicí. A je tu poslední letošní Crew. Proti obálce by sice mohli ochránci zvířat protestovat,neboť na obálce je podříznutá opice... ale jelikož je tu také skoro nahý dámský zadek, tak si té opice patrně nikdo nevšimne. Uvnitř pak najdete další pokračování epických ság. Dashiell Zlý kůň se sotva stal šerifem a už se ho chce někdo zbavit. A krvavá přestřelka je jen začátek jeho problémů.
