Noon

Two brothers wrestle, a bird lies in a young boy’s hand, an entire field lives within the eye of a needle. Noon is a sparkling debut from Birmingham-born poet Zain Rishi, exploring home, family and faith. From the heat of the school relay and his grandmother’s Kashmiri chai to the images of a young man kissing a city goodbye, these poems chart a coming-of-age journey across place, sexuality and family ties. Rich in its interrogation of language and inheritance across generations, Noon announces Zain Rishi as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.

History of the Child

History of the Child is a highly evocative exploration of childhood, memory, and imagination, blending personal and historical perspectives. The book’s themes include parenting, grief, nature, emotional recovery and connections to the past, guided by the idea of childhood as a transformative and rebellious space. The first of its four sections features poems about Katherine of Aragon, the Vestal Virgins, Stanley Spencer and Wallace Stevens, with a focus on grief, nature, and animals. ?The second, Book of Lullabies, steps closer to the theme of the child, with poems about memory, inwardness, climate change, sexuality in older age, and the natural world. ?The third part, History of the Child, is a journey back to Penelope Shuttle's own childhood, blending personal memories with imagined perspectives to explore psychological crises, emotional recovery, and the traumas of childhood. ? It introduces an ‘alternative girl child self’, inspired by Persian legends, by her late husband Peter Redgrove’s dream of such a girl (‘my death, and she is my soul’), and by a friend’s fanciful wish. The culminating fourth section is a playful sequence about a little table, inspired by her mother and her childhood. ? The table symbolises connection to her mother, who lived to be 100 years old, and their shared history. ?Penelope Shuttle's History of the Child is guided by themes of memory, imagination, foreboding, magic, history and humour, and seeks to articulate the essence of ‘being’ through fiery language and elemental imagery. ? She draws inspiration from Donald Winnicott’s concept of the ‘potentive space’ where play, fantasy and reality intersect.

Afterlife

Polly Clark’s poetry inhabits a world that is strange, unsettling, and edged with danger. Her debut, Kiss (2000), journeys inward, exploring the self with an unflinching gaze, before Take Me with You (2005) turns outward to question how we connect – with others, with the wider world, with the unknown. In these collections, her characters, both human and animal, speak in many voices, illuminating the moments when we are most alive – and most alone. Farewell My Lovely (2009) grapples with the price of survival, charting the experience of leaving one's life behind and returning as a stranger. By turns moving and darkly comic, these poems examine the ways we cling to who we were, even as certainty dissolves and the past slips beyond reach. This retrospective of her poetry opens with a magical new collection – also called Afterlife – in which there are no physical limits, nothing is stable and the world is distilled to its elements. The traumatic experience of rape transforms a girl into a tiger, and a tiger into a girl; a whale embraces both air and water until forced to inhabit only one by jealous fish. The poems grapple with the inexplicable nature of some experience, suggesting that we are most real in that mysterious space between living and dying. Polly Clark is an award-winning poet and novelist. Her first collection, Kiss, was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. Her second,Take Me with You, a Poetry Book Society Choice, was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize.

What Wondrous Love

With these poems and meditations Bonnie B. Thurston continues her unsentimental journey through darkness towards light. Following the steep ascent of Holy Week from the uneasy hope and celebration of Palm Sunday, through the long stillness of Holy Saturday, and into the fragile dawn of Easter, they speak honestly of loss and exhaustion, yet remain fiercely attentive to grace breaking through the ordinary days. Written with theological depth and poetic restraint, they remain close to lived experience: grief and fatigue, waiting and watching, the costly, unremarkable work of love. Rooted in scripture and shaped by a life intentionally lived quietly, Thurston’s voice is both disciplined and compassionate. She does not seek to resolve the mystery of resurrection, but to stay with it, to listen, to endure, and to trust that love, extravagant and undeserved, is already at work. Having stepped away from an academic career for a quiet life in West Virginia, Thurston writes from the margins: attentive to silence, service, grief and the slow work of faith. This is a book for those who know that Easter is not hurried, that resurrection carries the shadow of the cross, for readers who walk Holy Week with open eyes and steady hearts, trusting that even in darkness, love is already at work. It invites us to pause, ponder, and find solace in the transformative mystery of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection.

Light Year

Light Year by Jennifer Wong is a meditation on time, distance and proximities, a reimagining of history, its galaxies of personal truths and epiphanies. These poems move through spaces of change and upheaval, mapping a poet’s constellations of friendships, love, and healing. In the light that reaches us, we experience the many journeys undertaken - that of a migrant, mother, friend or lover, in poems that look at what is broken and what is held dear in life.

Fire Series

Fire becomes metaphorically layered—as knowledge, as desire, as anger. The book entertains the many strands of this fiery lineage as it undertakes a poetic investigation into grief and sex, loneliness and restlessness within intimacy, and language’s ability to make, unmake, and remake things.

Getting Through What You're Going Through

Find hope and purpose as you discover that you’re right where you’re supposed to be. Maybe you thought you’d be further along by now. Or have a different kind of life. Maybe you thought that relationship would have happened, that dream would have come true, that path would have opened up—and it didn’t. Or you feel stuck, behind, not sure if you made a wrong turn somewhere. You’re trying to make sense of what is, even if what “is” is not what you thought it would be. Or maybe you’re searching for a moment of peace before carrying on. Getting Through What You’re Going Through by poet and writer Tanner Olson explores these ideas and offers you hope through it all. You don’t have to just “get through”; you can “go through”—all the ups and downs, disappointments, unexpected surprises—knowing that God is present and hope remains. In this collection of over one hundred poems and reflections, Tanner shows that God’s timing may be slow until it isn’t. Every day presents a gift to open. And hope is there to be found in the simplest things—a cup of coffee, a good friend, a single pancake. If you’re feeling stuck, unsettled, or even just happy to be here, know that hope remains and you’re right where you’re supposed to be.

I Have a Home, There Is a We

I Have a Home, There Is a We, whose original Swahili edition was in 2015 the first book of poetry to win the Safal-Cornell Kiswahili Prize for African Literature, brings the acclaimed verse of prolific Zanzibari poet, journalist, and cultural changemaker Mohammed Khelef Ghassani to English-language readers for the first time. The book explores the poet's life as a migrant in Germany: linguistic and cultural alienation, nostalgia, and longing for his homeland on the island of Pemba. These poems form a catalog of sorrow and love addressed to the family he left behind, to the children whose roots "he tore forcefully from the ground" in hopes of offering them a better life, and above all to the country he calls home, using the deeply resonant Swahili term "kwetu"—our place—named over and over again as Zanzibar. Utilizing the structured verse forms of traditional Swahili prosody, the collection is modern, unique, and innovative, speaking to a global diasporic experience even as it draws deeply on an idiom specific to the poet's tiny island home. A ripple of political defiance suffuses the poems as Ghassani positions himself against layered forms of oppression and marginalization both at home and abroad in this synthesis of love song, lamentation, and freedom declaration.

The Whole Earth Is a Garden of Monsters / Toda La Tierra Es Un Jardin De Monstruos

Winner of the 2025 Ambroggio Prize This award-winning bilingual collection intertwines the lives of a Renaissance painter and a modern migrant worker, offering a fresh perspective on art and migration. In this highly imaginative work, the lives of the northern Renaissance painter Hieronymus Bosch (1450–1516) and an imagined contemporary migrant worker named Juan Coyoc, later known as Juan DomÍnguez, run in parallel as they mirror each other across languages, time, and continents. By comparing and at times intertwining these two poetic narratives, the book explores themes of art, migration, narco-violence, family, spirituality, and the idea that every human being represents all humanity at any moment in history. Both Hieronymus Bosch and Juan DomÍnguez become relatable and intimate figures, part of our own story. Written in simple, sharp language, the book employs surprising imagery and a novel structure to blur the boundaries between reality and fiction, while examining the intricacies of the human condition—from the life of Saint Anthony to the violent acts of narcos across Central America and the U.S.-Mexico border. With formal sophistication and philosophical depth, this work enriches the tradition of poetry about both migration and art, contributing to the literary heritage of Mexico and the United States over the past several decades.

lamping wild rabbits

In Simon Maddrell’s wide and bracing world, childhood orbits the voice of a distant and sometimes dangerous parent. Memories of sex parties, dead friends and estranged lovers straddle the spaces between feeling and thought, loss and fatalism. lamping wild rabbits is a brave and expansive multiverse, exploring sexuality, queer desire, memory recall and testimony. With poems that pay homage to the late Derek Jarman, to verses which situate themselves in and around the Isle of Man, exploring Britain’s colonial presence through the subverted interplay of English and the Manx language. A poly-vocal and multifaceted debut which is unafraid to confront the shame and stigma of HIV, while never allowing the poems to lose shape or pace, altering the lens to bring the reader’s attention to birdsong and the queer body in nature. Maddrell has achieved a distinct and totally convincing sound through the literary geography of lamping wild rabbits, one that gives the impression it’s been everywhere and returned because it survived.

Dog Star

An inviting and poignant new collection exploring our increasingly turbulent relationship with nature, from award-winning poet Michael Symmons Roberts'I love Michael Symmons Roberts' poetry' Jeanette Winterson'An existential wrestle between body and soul ... sure-footed' Guardian, Best New PoetryDog Star is a book of linked poems rooted in encounters with real, imagined or mythical birds, trees, fish, flowers, bacteria, chimeras – ancient connections reshaped by technological and political change and critically endangered by species and habitat loss. His poems are always attentive to glimpses of grace and presence, but always embodied and grounded. In this new book, that attention is sharper and more urgent than ever, at a time when the essential spiritual relationship between humanity and other forms of life is broken or lost. Some encounters in Dog Star are head-on, face-to-face, some are more slant, distant, missed connections. There’s an elegiac sequence for the poet’s mother with each step measured in animals, an extended riff on the world as an aquarium and our lives seen through water – creatures dead and living, met in the flesh or mediated via film or stories. This is a profound, remarkable book by one of our major poets. 'The clearest and purest voice currently sounding in British poetry' Carol Ann Duffy'An outstanding writer' Sunday Times

První ucelený český překlad Rilkeho francouzských básní doplněný vysvětlivkami a komentáři v synoptickém vydání.
