Jaroslav Novobilský (19031942) byl učitelem na měšťanských školách v Melči (u Opavy) a v Pňovicích (u Olomouce). V Melči, s převážně německým obyvatelstvem, jako ředitel školy vybudoval novou školní budovu pro české žáky a současně intenzívně pracoval jako osvětový pracovník probouzející zanikající češství v místním sudetském obyvatelstvu. Nástupem Hitlera v sousedním Německu k moci a po Mnichovském diktátu se vztahy Němců a Čechů vyostřily natolik, že J. Novobilský s rodinou, před hrozbou zkázy, musel uprchnout do Protektorátu Čech a Moravy. Jako ředitel měšťanské školy v Pňovicích u Olomouce dále pokračoval ve své intenzívní pedagogické a osvětové práci. Na počátku druhé světové války vstoupil jako župní velitel národně osvobozeneckého hnutí do boje proti nacismu. Spolu se svými spolupracovníky byl vyzrazen, zatčen gestapem, vězněn v Olomouci, odsouzen k smrti v Brně a zavražděn v koncentračním táboře Mauthausen 7. 5. 1942. J. Novobilský je příkladem člověka, který své ideály svobody a humanismu nezradil a svou krví přispěl k porážce nacistických plánů na zotročení Evropy a světa.
