Sokotra je izolované souostroví v severozápadní části Indického oceánu, ležící asi 350 km jižně od Arabského poloostrova. Je součástí Jemenu. Hlavní ostrov Sokotra je přibližně 130 km dlouhý a až 35 km široký. Žije na něm zhruba 50–60 tisíc obyvatel, převážně v pobřežních městech, z toho asi polovina v hlavním městě Hadibo. Díky dlouhodobé izolaci se zde vyvinulo mnoho endemických druhů rostlin i živočichů, což Sokotře vyneslo přezdívku „Galapágy Indického oceánu“. V roce 2008 byla zapsána na seznam světového přírodního dědictví UNESCO.
