Příběhy myslivců a jejich psích kamarádů
Není pro myslivce krásnější chvíle, než se procházet ztichlým lesem ve společnosti jediného opravdového přítele – loveckého psa. Autor vypráví zejména příběhy zkušených loveckých psů, starých mazáků, kteří se vyznají v lese a v lovu. Příběhy psů s krví čistou jak křišťál, ale i těch, jejichž krev je naředěna všelijakými příměsemi psů obyčejných, přesto si na lovecké stezce nezadají. Jsou to i málo pravdě podobné příběhy o psech s očima ohnivýma a se srstí černou jako noc.
Ne nadarmo se říká, že pes je nejlepším přítelem člověka. O to pevnější je vazba mezi loveckým psem a jeho pánem – myslivcem. Výraz pán není nejpříhodnější, spíš přítel.
Jedno je jisté: pokud budou lovci a lovečtí psi, bude mezi nimi existovat obdivuhodné pouto přátelství.
Kachny, polekané výstřelem, vytáčely ve vzduchu široký oblouk, rychle se dostávaly mimo střelecké pole. Viktor se musel za letkou pootočit. Zamířil, potáhl hlaveň po směru letu, stiskl kohoutek… Dřevo lávky, na které stál, bylo zpuchřelé. Střelec nedržel loveckou pušku příliš pevně, pažba ho tvrdě udeřila do čelisti, rána ho srazila do vody. Poslední, co viděl, bylo, jak se Lusy v mohutném skoku vzpíná nad hladinou rybníka. Voda jí z dlouhé srsti crčí jako napěněný závoj, slechy napřímené, tělo vypjaté do oblouku, mordu dychtivě rozevřenou okamžik předtím, než uchopí výstřelem sraženou kachnu.
Voda byla nepříjemná, hrozně studená. Ten protivný pocit Viktor vnímal celým tělem. Nejhorší však bylo, že pod hladinou ztratil orientaci, kudy nejblíž ke břehu. Ztěžklé oblečení ho táhlo ke dnu. Takhle umřít jsem nechtěl, napadlo ho, takhle ne. Stále se nemohl dostat nad hladinu. Pak se přece odrazil od bahnitého dna. Konečně se jedna ruka, pak druhá dobývala nad hladinu, ale to už ho zase táhlo mokré oblečení ke dnu, nezadržitelně klesal níž. Když se napůl omráčený Viktor znovu přiblížil k hladině, ucítil, jak se mu cosi zahryzlo do límce. To byla Lusy. Nechala střelenou kachnu kachnou a přispěchala Viktorovi na pomoc…
