Z Ruzyně do jižního Tichomoří
Všichni vědí, co znamenají tři písmena ČSA. V první éře, do roku 1939, Československé Státní Aerolinie, v druhé poválečné etapě Československé Aerolinie a konečně v té poslední, od roku 1995, České Aerolinie.

Aston Martin: the V8 Legacy
This book charts the origins, design and development of the most iconic British supercar of the 1970s and 1980s - the Aston Martin V8. It traces the car''s origins from the introductory model of 1967, the DBS through the various iterations of the V8 versions and ends with the final models of the range, the spectacular Vantage Zagato. While the car started life with Aston Martin''s ageing six-cylinder engine, it quickly received the engine the car was originally designed to be fitted with; Aston Martin''s mighty quad cam V8. The V8 would would power the car through the 70s and 80s, and with various tweaks and tunes, described in the book, would keep Aston Martin''s reputation as a vendor of fast, high-performance coupes alive through some very troubling times. The book covers the whole family of standard production cars produced by Aston Martin, along with various special versions, including the Ogle-designed ''Sotheby Special'', the Siva S350 and the ''Bulldog'' which recently broke the 200mph barrier. Alongside the specials the book also looks at the racing variants, including the Le Mans Lola of 1967, the spectacular V8 production racer run by Robin Hamilton (which was nicknamed ''the muncher'' thanks to its spectacular performance meaning it would eat is brakes for breakfast) and the Nimrod, which saw Aston Martin return to Le Mans in the 1980s. It also looks at the car in film and on the small screen, with James Bond looming large (''On Her Majesty''s Secret Service'' and ''The Living Daylights'') and with Roger Moore cavorting about Europe with Tony Curtis in the popular TV series ''The Persuaders!'' polishing the cars celebrity credentials. With some 70,000 words and 250+ pictures, many never seen before, this book pays a heartfelt tribute to the The Aston Martin V8. The V8 was the poster car for the patriotic British teenager of the 1970s and 1980s, providing a glimmer of hope that Britain could produce a world beating performance car that was the match of Italian exotica and American muscle. The Aston Martin V8 was that world beater, a car with superlative looks, amazing performance, unparalleled luxury and tough, reliable underpinnings. This book is a heartfelt tribute to the car, the car that kept Aston Martin''s hopes and British automotive dreams alive, a car that is now starting to be recognised for the true British supercar it always has been.

Moses Malone
Moses Malone overcame abject poverty in segregated Petersburg, Virginia, to become the first modern-day basketball player to jump directly from high school to the pros, paving a path for future stars such as Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and LeBron James to follow. Moses Malone: The Life of a Basketball Prophet tells the story of Malone’s ascent in the early 1970s to becoming the premier player in the world for a five-year period. The young Malone prophesied his improbable rise and succeeded where others later failed because of his strength of character and unparalleled work ethic. Malone dominated his years in the NBA with a relentless determination that made him the greatest offensive rebounder in basketball history-a record he holds to this day. From 1979 to 1983 he won three of the NBA’s Most Valuable Player awards and with Julius Erving helped to deliver the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA championship in 1983. He remains one of just nine players to win the NBA MVP award three or more times. In many ways Malone was an anti-superstar. He lacked a signature move, displayed almost no ego, and shunned the spotlight to the detriment of his commercial appeal. Shy by nature and self-conscious about a speech impediment, Moses kept his distance from the media, some of whom mistook his reticence for stupidity. A man of few words, he possessed a magnetism rooted in humility, authenticity, and passion. Moses was a giver, equally generous in assisting a friend as he was mentoring younger players, including Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon. While his contemporaries preened for the cameras, Moses remained the “lunch pail superstar,” a quiet and humble teammate who expressed himself through his tireless effort on the court and compassion off it.

The Team That History Forgot
While the Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s newest dynasty, winning three Super Bowls since 2020, most fans don’t recall the team’s earliest successful years before decades of futility. What about the underdog losers of that very first Super Bowl? When the Kansas City Chiefs played the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I in 1967, they had only been in existence for seven seasons and were tasked with the monumental burden of representing the still-fledgling American Football League against the NFL’s team of the decade. The Chiefs won their first AFL Championship in 1962, as the Dallas Texans, when owner Lamar Hunt decided the Dallas market couldn’t support two pro football teams-it could barely support one. After just three seasons, the Texans relocated to Kansas City, where they became the Chiefs. Under future Hall-of-Famers Len Dawson, Buck Buchanan, and Johnny Robinson, they were the winningest AFL team and helped integrate pro football more than any other team in the 1960s. In The Team That History Forgot, Rick Gosselin explores the team’s struggles and triumphs in its early years, the competition created by the AFL in player signing wars, the recruitment of athletes from historically Black colleges and universities, the loss of the franchise identity with the move from Texas to Kansas City, the first Super Bowl and the humiliating loss against the Packers, and the moves the Chiefs made to recover from that loss and win Super Bowl IV, the last game before the two rival leagues finally merged in 1970. The early Chiefs set a bar for excellence that the team continues to pursue today.
The Last Extinction
The story behind Dr. Gerta Keller’s world-shattering scientific discovery that dinosaur extinction was NOT caused by asteroid impact, but rather by volcanic eruptions on the Indian peninsula, a discovery that highlights today’s existential threat of greenhouse gasses and climate change—and one that sparked an all-out war waged by the scientific establishment. Part scientific detective story, part personal odyssey, The Last Extinction is the definitive account of a radical theory that has reshaped how we understand our planet’s past and, as we face the possibility of a sixth extinction, how we might survive its future. For decades, the dominant theory held that an asteroid impact caused the dinosaurs’ extinction. But Princeton Geologist Dr. Gerta Keller followed the evidence to the truth: Deccan volcanism, a series of massive volcanic eruptions in India, triggered a long-term climate catastrophe and Earth’s fifth mass extinction. Her findings upended the field and ignited a bitter feud in modern science—what became known as the “Dinosaur Wars.” Raised in poverty on a Swiss farm and told she could never be a scientist, Keller defied expectations, earning her PhD at Stanford and battling her way into the highest ranks of Geology, eventually becoming a Professor of Paleontology and Geology at Princeton University. Her refusal to back down in the face of ridicule, sabotage, and sexism makes her story as thrilling as her science, which offers urgent insight into today’s climate crisis: Sustained planetary upheaval—not a single cataclysmic event—can plunge the planet into an age of death.
Just Call Me 'Andi'
For readers of sports broadcasting tell-alls like Jay Onrait''s Anchorboy or James Duthie''s The Guy on the Left comes Andi Petrillo''s candid memoir: She explores the sexism she''s faced and the relationships she''s built, offering an underreported, crucial perspective on sports broadcasting from one of North America''s top female sportscasters. Petrillo''s story is both heartbreakingly honest and deeply insightful, providing a roadmap for future broadcasters navigating similar challenges so that female voices in sport are the norm, not the exception. When Andi Petrillo decided to pursue a career in sportscasting, a woman offering her opinion on sports was still a novelty. She was constantly being criticised, scrutinised, and sexualised, but her love for sports - and her determination to prove she deserved to be doing what she loved - propelled her into a successful and historic career. From becoming the first woman to be part of the Hockey Night in Canada in-studio broadcast, to being the first woman to host a daily sports radio talk show in Canada (Leafs Lunch on TSN), to being the first woman to win a Canadian Screen Award for Best Sports Host, she''s come to see her perseverance as inspiration for young women who now believe they too can achieve great things in sports broadcasting. Just Call Me ''Andi'' shares many of the obstacles Petrillo''s faced, as well as the incredible friendships she''s made, and the lessons she''s learned along the way. It also provides a behind-the-scenes look into the industry, explaining why editorial and broadcast decisions are often made and how the broadcasting world has evolved in the era of streaming and social media. Women have come a long way in sportscasting, but it may surprise people to learn about the pervasive sexism and the downright ridiculous requests that are still made of women that are not made of men... Petrillo''s story is both heartbreakingly honest and deeply insightful, providing a roadmap for future broadcasters navigating similar challenges so that female voices in sport are the norm, not the exception.
Coastal Seas
A beautifully illustrated exploration of the habitats, communities and species hidden just below the British seashore. The shoreline around the British Isles provides tantalising, twice-daily glimpses of the wonders in our seas, but reveals very little of the lives of the dazzlingly colourful fish, exotic-looking corals and thousands more creatures that are just out of sight. Marine biologists and lifelong divers Frances Dipper and Paul Naylor draw on their personal stories to build a vivid picture of the ocean on our doorstep – what lives there, why it’s important and what’s happening to it.Coastal Seas provides a window into the immensely varied and picturesque habitats beneath the waves, from kelp forests and reefs to seagrass meadows and the open water, as well as the fascinating behaviour and intricate relationships of the fish, cephalopods, invertebrates and other residents within them. The book explores the unique opportunities and challenges that come with living underwater (How do you stay afloat without being swept away? How do you find food and a mate if rooted to the spot?) and reflects on the state of our seas, and what we must do to conserve them.Illustrated with around 300 colour photographs, this latest addition to the British Wildlife Collection is a vibrant celebration of the richness and importance of our marine life.‘Easily the best book on the wonders to be found in Britain’s coastal seas.’ – Prof Callum Roberts
