Cesta svobodného ducha: Súfismus a chuť bytí
Každá generace svrhává své někdejší pány, jen aby se stala rabem pánů nových. Páni na sebe berou rozličné masky. Promlouvají coby kněz, politik, vědec, rodič, intelektuál, učitel, guru, kouč a někdy dokonce mluví skrze naše vlastní ego. Naše jistoty a strachy, ambice, přesvědčení i hodnoty jsou diktovány pány, neboť pouze oni definují morálku, filosofii, tradici a ideály. Slova pánů vytvářejí přesvědčivé zdání skutečnosti, které zaměňujeme za skutečnost jako takovou. Pokud zdání uvěříme, budeme polapeni v proradné hříčce, a budeme-li plnit její marné cíle, vysloužíme si jen nespokojenost, utrpení, úzkost a neklid.
Jelikož však Súfí je svobodný duch, dokáže prohlédnout, že ono zdání skutečnosti je závojem, který nám brání setkat se se Skutečností jako takovou, v níž může být život plně zakoušen v celé své slávě.
Ten, kdo kráčí po stezce súfismu, se chce zprostit všech pout, přičemž si je vědom paradoxu, že každá Cesta se může stát okovem okolo jeho krku. K překročení řeky je zapotřebí lodi, a jakmile vystoupíme na břeh, musíme ji opustit, abychom mohli kráčet po zemi. Onou lodí je súfismus. A tak se i Súfí vzdává samotného súfismu a zůstává mu jen bytí. Jinými slovy, Súfí nehledá vysvobození, je si totiž vědom tajemství bytí: on již osvobozený je. Súfí existuje mimo pravdu a lež, dobro a zlo, víru i nevíru a všechna myslitelná dělení. Tam, kde život a smrt, rozum a nerozum, já a ten druhý, Bůh a Nicota jsou jedno a totéž, dotýká se Súfí skrze sebepoznání Základu Bytí a nalézá odpověď na nejzazší otázku: „Kdo jsem?“

Modernity in Perspective
Draws on the work of the Renaissance theologian and mystic Nicolas of Cusa to offer an alternative to Cartesian subjectivity. The normative history of modernity begins with the Renaissance and the invention of linear perspective, which places man, instead of God, at the center of the world. The vanishing point of linear perspective portrays the world from the perspective of the single right eye of a singular subject, and it is this perspective that inspired Descartes's optics and his isolated cogito as the prime example of modern subjectivity. This book returns to the invention of linear perspective to seek another interpretation, offering an alternative to the Cartesian subject. Using the work of Renaissance theologian and mystic Nicolas of Cusa, Arianne Conty traces an alternative genealogy of the modern subject, one that allows the world, and the painting, to return our gaze. In elucidating the critique of the Cartesian subject by twentieth-century philosophers Benjamin, Heidegger, Lacan, Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, and Marion, she asks how modernity could be reconceived if philosophers were to take into account the geometric vision of Nicolas of Cusa and how his alternative vision might enable us to escape narcissism and share our world with the absolute other.
Shinto
From time immemorial, the Japanese people have worshipped Kami--spirits that inhabit or represent a particular place, or embody natural forces like the wind, rivers, and mountains. Whenever a new settlement was founded a shrine would be erected for the spirits of that place to honor them and ensure their protection. It was believed that Kami could be found everywhere, that no place in Japan was outside their dominion. Shinto encompasses the doctrines, institutions, ritual, and communal life based on Kami worship. The ideal of Shinto, central to this study, is a construct in which a monarch rules through rituals for the Kami, a priestly order assists the sovereign by coordinating rituals, and the people who fulfill their obligations to the collective are in turn blessed by the Kami. Center and periphery join together in untroubled harmony through this theatre of state. Helen Hardacre offers for the first time in any language a sweeping, comprehensive history of Shinto, which is practiced by some 80% of the Japanese people. The basic building blocks of this vast and varied tradition, she shows, include the related concepts of imperial rule and ritual, the claim that rituals for the Kami are public in character, and the assertion that this complex web of ideas and institutions devoted to the Kami embodies Japan''s "indigenous" tradition. This study addresses the story of the emergence and development of these elements and the debates that surround them to this day. War, sectarianism, and imperialism have eroded diversity in the Middle East. The Winchester Constitutional Contribution 1070–1346
First among equals before the Norman Conquest, the ancient See of Winchester was soon overtaken by Canterbury, York and London following the defeat of the Anglo-Saxons at Hastings. Despite this, it retained its wealth and prestige through its geographical position and the bishop’s unrivalled proximity to kings at Westminster and archbishops at Lambeth – thanks to the diocese’s hold on the Thames’ south bank and its base at Southwark. This helped ensure that successive bishops were drawn from among the finest medieval administrators. Frequently serving as Chancellors or Treasurers of England, they had immense opportunity to influence the development of early English government. They played key roles in shaping an effective legal and financial system, in securing Magna Carta and in promoting an embryonic Parliament. A bishop of Winchester was present at most, if not all, major events under the Norman and early Plantagenet monarchs. The Winchester bishop’s removal of the hapless Edward II paved the way for the long and illustrious reign of his son, Edward III.

Když čteme noviny, snažíme se porozumět naší společnosti, a když se díváme na své dějiny či budoucnost, potřebujeme Bibli, abychom si s tím vším dokázali poradit. Boží slovo je pravda, kterou potřebujeme, aby nás vedla každý den vezdejšího života a směrovala nás ke Kristu, v němž nacházíme skutečný život.
Kniha, kterou držíte v ruce je denní čtení, protože člověk nežije jen chlebem, nýbrž každým slovem, které vychází z Božích úst (Mt 4,4). Boží slovo nás denně sytí a je pro naše duchovní zdraví stejně nezbytné jako jídlo pro zdraví tělesné. Některé dny pro vás bude čtení Božího slova potěšením, zatímco jindy ho budete číst spíš z povinnosti, ale každý den to je důležité.
Boží slovo o sobě říká, že nám může dát „moudrost k záchraně skrze víru, která je v Kristu Ježíši“ a že tato Bohem vdechnutá slova jsou užitečná „k učení, k usvědčování, k napravování, k výchově ve spravedlnosti, aby Boží člověk byl takový, jaký má být, důkladně vystrojený ke každému dobrému skutku“ (2Tm 3,15–17).
Rozhodněte se tedy otvírat Bibli každý den (a když si uvědomíte, že jste polevili, prostě se k tomu zase vraťte), protože Boží slovo je živé a činné a bude ve vás působit mnohem hlouběji a zásadněji, než svými pocity můžete vytušit.
Boží řeč jsou slova, která potřebujeme. Proto je našim přáním, aby vám, milovaným Božím dětem, tato kniha změnila život, až vás k těmto slovům bude denně přivádět a Boží Duch vám bude skrze své slovo ukazovat Božího Syna.

Neboť ten čas je blízko
Tento slogan najdeme na billboardech i ve sci-fi filmech. Podtrhuje nervózní fascinaci naší společnosti budoucností. Konec světa je děsivá vyhlídka, ať už ho má mít na svědomí obrovský asteroid, celosvětová epidemie, nebo jiná globální katastrofa. Děsivá je zvlášť pro ty, kdo nevědí, jak to bude doopravdy.
Pro křesťany však konec světa nemá být děsivý. Můžeme se na něj naopak těšit. Proč? Bůh nám řekl, jak svět skončí. A ujišťuje nás, že konec tohoto věku bude počátkem nového, úžasného, v němž budeme sloužit Pánu a uctívat ho s bezhříšnou dokonalostí. Naše věčná naděje jako věřících je těsně spjata s koncem tohoto světa.
To vše je vyloženo v knize Zjevení. Zjevení je inspirované Boží slovo, ale je to také jediná novozákonní kniha, která slibuje duchovní požehnání těm, kdo studují její poselství a uplatňují ho v praxi. Je tedy nezbytnou součástí duchovního života každého křesťana. Ti, kdo Zjevení ignorují, se připravují o bohatý poklad Boží pravdy a zaslíbených požehnání, která nám její porozumění přináší. Těchto sedm posledních slov z kříže jsou okna, která nám umožňují nahlédnout do věčnosti a vidět Boží srdce.
