Elected the architectural book of the year by the International Artbook and Film Festival in Perpignan, France, Frederic Chaubin's Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed explores 90 buildings in 14 former Soviet Republics. Each of these structures expresses what Chaubin considers the fourth age of Soviet architecture, an unknown burgeoning that took place from 1970 until 1990.
Contrary to the 1920s and 1950s, no "school" or main trend emerges here. These buildings represent a chaotic impulse brought about by a decaying system. Taking advantage of the collapsing monolithic structure, architects went far beyond modernism, going back to the roots or freely innovating. Some of the daring ones completed projects that the Constructivists would have dreamt of (Druzhba Sanatorium, Yalta), others expressed their imagination in an expressionist way (Palace of Weddings, Tbilisi). A summer camp, inspired by sketches of a prototype lunar base, lays claim to Suprematist influence (Prometheus youth camp, Bogatyr). Then comes the "speaking architecture" widespread in the last years of the USSR: a crematorium adorned with concrete flames (Crematorium, Kiev), a technological institute with a flying saucer crashed on the roof (Institute of Scientific Research, Kiev), a political center watching you like Big Brother (House of Soviets, Kaliningrad).
In their puzzle of styles, their outlandish strategies, these buildings are extraordinary remnants of a collapsing system.In their diversity and local exoticism, they testify both to the vast geography of the USSR and its encroaching end of the Soviet Union, the holes in a widening net. At the same time, they immortalize many of the ideological dreams of the country and its time, from an obsession with the cosmos to the rebirth of identity.

Jože Plečnik - a Guide to His Works in the Czech Republic
FOIBOS BOOKS agency declared this year as The Year of J. Plečnik and P. Janák 2012 - due to two important anniversaries - birth of Jože Plečnik /140 years ago/ and Pavel Janák /130 years ago/. The agency in cooperation with the Administration of the Prague Castle is publishing at the occasion of the anniversary a book by Zdeněk Lukeš Jože Plečnik - A guide to the buildings in the Czech Republic. The Guide to the buildings by the well-known Slovenian architekt Jože Plečnik /1872-1957/ introduces in the texts and contemporary photos by Jiří Podrazil his timeless work for the Prague Castle and the Lány Castle including some less known or not published interventions. These works were done in the 20s and early 30s of the last century in cooperation with T. G. Masaryk. The book even shows his next buildings - Kostel Nejsvětějšího Srdce Páně /The Church of The Holliest Heart of the Lord in Vinohrady/ or less known earlier realisations. The Guide is an extended and supplemented version of the book published at the occasion of the exhibition inspired by Plečnik in the Prague Castle in 1996 and sold out within a few months.

Architektura středověkých klášterů dominikánek v Čechách a na Moravě
Tématem knihy je středověká architektura klášterů dominikánek v Čechách a na Moravě. Klášterům tohoto ženského řádu dosud nebyla věnována ucelená monografie, přestože se ve středověkém období jednalo o důležitý fenomén – do poloviny 14. století vznikl na našem území relativně velký počet devíti konventů dominikánských jeptišek. Kniha se soustředí na dosud existující architekturu řádu, kterou u nás dnes představují již jen dva komplexy – bývalý klášter sv. Kateřiny v Olomouci a bývalý klášter sv. Anny na Starém Městě v Praze. Těmto konventům náleží v rámci knihy podrobné kapitoly, v nichž je nastíněna jejich historie a stavební vývoj jejich budov, především obou kostelů, které se dochovaly jako poměrně celistvé gotické stavby a jsou tak významnými příklady středověké architektury mendikantek. Opomenuty ale nejsou ani zaniklé kláštery a důraz je kladen na zasazení celé skupiny českých a moravských konventů do kontextu středoevropského řádového stavitelství. Důležitou linii textu tvoří také problematika specifických stavebních úprav klášterních budov a kostelů dominikánských jeptišek, reflektujících požadavek přísné klausury řeholnic, a otázky ohledně funkcí jednotlivých prostor.
