Rozsáhlá publikace Jaroslava Riedela Česká rocková alba 2 – Nahrávky z let 1968–1986 přináší podrobné komentáře ke čtyřem desítkám původních rockových alb a více než dvaceti kompilacím singlových, rozhlasových či koncertních nahrávek, které vyšly v uplynulých desetiletích. Jsou zde zastoupena zásadní jména rockové historie: Michal Prokop a Framus Five, Blue Effect, Flamengo, Vladimír Mišík a Etc…, Jiří Schelinger, Katapult, Progress Organization i méně často zmiňované, ale rovněž důležité soubory Bluesmen, Rebels, Blues Band, Čundrgrund. Své místo v knize mají také jazzrockové formace Energit, Bohemia, Impuls, Combo FH, sólové desky Luboše Andršta, Emila Viklického nebo Marthy Elefteriadu.
Autor navazuje na svou knihu Česká rocková alba – Zákazům navzdory 1969–1989 z roku 2024, zaměřenou na undergroundovou a alternativní scénu. Na obou publikacích pracoval souběžně, poznatky sbíral po celou svou čtyřicetiletou dráhu hudebního publicisty. I druhý díl je koncipován jako přehledná a informacemi nabitá encyklopedie svého druhu, hlavní důraz však autor opět klade na příběhy desek a jejich tvůrců, často komplikované a dramatické. Vycházel z osobních rozhovorů s téměř stovkou zúčastněných hudebníků, provedl rozsáhlé rešerše dobového tisku, shromáždil mnoho neznámých a dosud nepublikovaných informací. Česká rocková alba jsou obrazem složité doby, kdy rock pro mladé posluchače hodně znamenal, muzikanti byli pod silným tlakem a museli v sobě mít velké vnitřní odhodlání, aby mohli alba, považovaná dnes za klasiku, vůbec nahrát. Zákazům navzdory (1969–1989) mapuje třiaosmdesát hudebních alb, která vznikla mimo oficiální vydavatelství a mnohá z nich totalitnímu režimu navzdory. Nahrávky se pořizovaly na koncertech, ve zkušebnách, později v domácích studiích. Jen osm z nich vyšlo v letech 1978–1987 na deskách v zahraničí.
Je to hudba velmi různorodá; někdy měla prostřednictvím podzemní distribuce zřetelný společenský dosah, jindy se stala kultem pro vyhraněný okruh posluchačů. Většinou však za ní stály mnohé dramatické příběhy a přes nelehkou dobu rozhodně nebyla nouze ani o zábavné historky. Výběr je zaměřen na oblast undergroundu, alternativy a nové vlny: Plastic People, DG 307, Umělá hmota, Svatopluk Karásek, Charlie Soukup, Psí vojáci, Národní třída, Extempore, Švehlík, Amalgam, Kilhets, trio Janota–Fidler–Richter, Lesík Hajdovský a Manželé, MCH Band, Zikkurat, Jasná páka, Dvouletá fáma, Precedens, Visací zámek a další. Kniha není koncipována jako vyčerpávající monografie o neoficiální hudební scéně a neklade si nárok na úplnost. Autor však sbíral poznatky čtyřicet let, čerpal z rozhovorů s více než stovkou zúčastněných hudebníků, vycházel i z archivů Státní bezpečnosti a běžně nedostupných zdrojů, jako jsou dobové kroniky, deníky, soukromá korespondence, samizdatové časopisy.
Příběhy více než osmi desítek hudebních alb tvoří přehlednou a informacemi nabitou encyklopedii svého druhu, která zachycuje podstatnou část naší neoficiální hudební scény sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let dvacátého století.
