Katalog vychází k výstavě Ostrovy odporu. Mezi první a druhou moderností (1985-2012), která už svým názvem odkazuje k základnímu rámci neo-modernizace v různých podobách, které provázejí umění a architekturu od počátku postmoderního obratu dodnes. Označení prostoru "mezi první a druhou moderností", jež se objevovalo zejména v sociologické literatuře a u nás ho uvedl do hry Václav Bělohradský, je velmi příznačné pro transformační procesy uvnitř naší společnosti. Postmodernismus se volně pohyboval mezi tradičními a moderními znaky, přezkoumával jejich využitelnost a naplňoval je jen přechodnými, krátkodobými významy. Tento radikální a manifestačně vyhlašovaný přelom měl sice jen několikaleté trvání, ale trvalé důsledky. Modernistické formy začaly do postmodernismu pronikat zpět již na přelomu 80. a 90. let minulého století, a naopak, postmoderní myšlenky a nálady přetrvaly celá 90. léta a v transformované podobě je možné je sledovat dodnes.
