Lee Quinones: Fifty Years of New York Graffiti Art and Beyond
A comprehensive monograph on the work of a pioneering New York subway artist
This volume presents a sweeping overview of the monumental work of Puerto Rican–born artist Lee Quinones over the past five decades. When Quinones made his first spray paint mural in the New York City subway system, he was just 14 years old. He eventually spray-painted murals on over 120 subway cars, infusing kinetic elements of Futurism into his illustrations. These highly visible graffiti works served as a catalyst for what is now acknowledged as the Street Art movement. Indeed, the artist introduced spray-paint-based work to international audiences upon his first formal exhibition, and he also invented the concept of the freestanding urban mural through his handball court piece, Howard the Duck (1978).
This book is chock-full of Quinones’ street art works, paintings and drawings, underscoring the poetic social commentary the artist has incorporated throughout his formal evolutions. Pairing high-resolution images of his works with thoughtful scholarship, the monograph traces his influence on peers such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and David Wojnarowicz. An abundance of archival photographs capture the gritty, vibrant New York City of Quinones’ early career.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1960, and raised in the Lower East Side, Lee Quinones is considered the single most influential artist to emerge from the New York subway art movement. In 1980, Quinones had his first New York show at White Columns, ushering in an important era as the medium of spray paint expanded from public spaces to stationary canvas works.

Street Fonts
Classic graffiti lettering and experimental typographical forms lie at the heart of street culture and have long inspired designers in many different fields. But graffiti artists, who tend to paint the same letters of their tag again and again, rarely design complete alphabets. Claudia Walde has spent over two years collecting alphabets by 154 artists from 30 countries with a view to showing the many different styles and approaches to lettering within the graffiti and street art cultures. All of the artists have roots in graffiti. Some are world renowned such as 123 Klan (Canada), Faith47 (South Africa) and Hera (Germany); others are lesser known or only now starting to emerge. Each artist received the same brief: to design all 26 letters of the Latin alphabet within the limits of a single page of the book. How they approached this task and selected the media with which to express their ideas was entirely up to them. The results are a fascinating insight into the creative process.

Jeho vášeň pro street art ho přiměla k cestám po celém světě. Je rovněž členem Královské zeměpisné společnosti.

Stickers 2
Stickers are an independent, creative form of expression and an integral part of contemporary street art and visual culture. Favoured amongst street artists, graphic designers, illustrators and typographers, they have become a common phenomenon throughout cities all over the world. Inexpensive and easy to produce, stickers often aid in effective guerrilla advertising campaigns or individuals making their mark on their urban landscape. Stickers 2 presents over 150 international artists who are expressing themselves through this versatile medium. Stickers are created from various materials and techniques by hand, photocopies and posters that are wheat-pasted to walls. Motifs vary from quick sketches and figures to complex designs and artworks that are often perceived as logos and tags, widely repeated and distributed through a practice called sticker bombing. The messages stickers spread are ephemeral, subversive and humorous and the simple and quick means of production lends to their flexible and spontaneous nature. Stickers 2 is a collection of over 700 stunning examples of contemporary sticker designs from around the world, spanning cities and rural areas across the USA, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Europe. Chance Encounters : Temporary Street Art by David Zinn
David Zinn's amazing street drawings are created using chalk, charcoal and found objects, and each extraordinary drawing is only ever temporary. The author explains the practical techniques of using a spray can, and the step-by-step methods and skills required to create artistic graffiti. The final section is a manual designed specifically to be of use to teachers. It gives ideas for running both theoretical and practical graffiti lessons and units, as well as providing suggestions on the details, such as marking schemes and ideas for class trips.
