Banksy

Street Art

V posledných desaťročiach sa výtvarné umenie presunulo z múzeí, zo súkromných zbierok a z galérií do ulíc. Bohato ilustrovaná kniha Street Art sa snaží zachytiť práve tento fenomén - bujnejúcu scénu, ktorej predstavitelia sa vyjadrujú prostredníctvom tagov, grafitov, nálepiek či diel vytvorených pomocou šablón. V úvodnej štúdii predstavuje odborník na grafický dizajn Chris Versteeg zdroje inšpirácie umelcov a hlavné trendy v „pouličných" formách súčasného výtvarného umenia.

Svá sousoší umisťuje i do veřejných prostor. Výstava v Muzeu umění Olomouc i malá monografie jsou prvním představením Magdaleny Abakanowicz v České republice. Kniha je česko-anglická, obsahuje seznamy výstav, b iografické a bibliografické údaje.

Stickers 2

Stickers are an independent, creative form of expression and an integral part of contemporary street art and visual culture. Favoured amongst street artists, graphic designers, illustrators and typographers, they have become a common phenomenon throughout cities all over the world. Inexpensive and easy to produce, stickers often aid in effective guerrilla advertising campaigns or individuals making their mark on their urban landscape. Stickers 2 presents over 150 international artists who are expressing themselves through this versatile medium. Stickers are created from various materials and techniques by hand, photocopies and posters that are wheat-pasted to walls. Motifs vary from quick sketches and figures to complex designs and artworks that are often perceived as logos and tags, widely repeated and distributed through a practice called sticker bombing. The messages stickers spread are ephemeral, subversive and humorous and the simple and quick means of production lends to their flexible and spontaneous nature. Stickers 2 is a collection of over 700 stunning examples of contemporary sticker designs from around the world, spanning cities and rural areas across the USA, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Europe. Essays and contributions by artists and connoisseurs of the scene provide further insight into the background of this underground phenomenon. The authors of this book are the founders of the International Sticker Awards.

Chance Encounters : Temporary Street Art by David Zinn

David Zinn's amazing street drawings are created using chalk, charcoal and found objects, and each extraordinary drawing is only ever temporary. This book preserves Zinn's art in all its colorful, hypnotic glory by collecting together never-before published images of his eye-popping creations. Created over the last two years on streets across the globe, these adorably zany and deceptively three-dimensional characters come to life on manhole covers and streetlamps, village squares and subway platforms. Zinn's most frequent characters are a bright green googly-eyed monster and a phlegmatic flying pig-but the diversity of his menagerie is limited only by the size of the sidewalk and the spirit of the day. In a brief introduction Zinn describes his creative process, explaining how he seeks out everyday imperfections to situate his art-such as sidewalk cracks and chips, tufts of weeds and sewer grates-and brief captions describe the provenance of each work. While these amazing drawings can no longer stop pedestrians in their tracks on the streets, they live on in book form to mesmerize and inspire readers of all ages.

The Glass Ark

Tracing Murano glass art through the glass animal collection of Pierre Rosenberg, former Director of the Louvre This publication traces the history of 20th-century Murano glass art through the motif of the glass animal. Taken from the collection of Pierre Rosenberg, art historian and former Director of the Louvre, over 750 glass animals are presented here. Some of the more famous series included are the pulegosi (bubble glass) pieces by Napoleone Martinuzzi, the birds by Tyra Lundgren and Toni Zuccheri, the Zebrati (zebra-striped) series by Barovier & Toso, and the aquariums by Alfredo Barbini. The volume also features a vast sampling of animals made by lesser-known but equally interesting glassworks, focusing on the aspect of technical and design experimentation in 20th-century Murano glass production. The catalog also showcases sculptures by living artists such as Cristiano Bianchin, Isabelle Poilprez, Maria Grazia Rosin and Giorgio Vigna, which demonstrate the inexhaustible source of inspiration offered by the form of the glass animal.

LA Graffiti Black Book

Many graffiti artists carry sketchbooks, called black books, and they ask crew members and others whose work they admire to inscribe their books with lettering or drawings. A few years ago, the Getty Research Institute invited artists, including Angst, Axis, Big Sleeps, Chaz, Cre8, Defer, EyeOne, Fishe, Heaven, Hyde, Look, ManOne, and Prime, to consider the idea of a citywide graffiti black book. During visits to the Getty Center, the artists viewed rare books related to calligraphy and letterforms, including works by Albrecht Durer and Leonardo da Vinci. The artists instantly recognized the connections to their own practices and were particularly drawn to a liber amicorum (book of friends), a form of autograph book popular in the seventeenth century. Passed from hand to hand, it was filled with signatures, poetry, and coats of arms, like a black book from another era. Inspired by this meeting of minds across centuries, these artists became both creators and curators, crafting their own pages and inviting others to contribute. Eventually 150 Los Angeles artists decorated 143 individual pages. These were bound together into an exquisite artists' book that became known as the Getty Graffiti Black Book. This publication reproduces each page from the original artists' book and recounts the story of an unprecedented collaboration across the diverse artistic landscape of Los Angeles.

Street Art Africa

This visually rich survey - the first of its kind - showcases the work of over 200 artists and celebrates the explosion of street art in Africa over the last decade. Including twelve in-depth interviews with street artists active in Africa today as well as coverage of the continent's major street art projects, collectives and festivals, it takes the reader on an introductory tour of the many African street art scenes, with a deeper focus on the most prominent players in Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia. Topics and projects covered include the monumental project Murais da Leba in Angola, which saw 6,000 square metres of wall covered by local graffiti and visual artists in the Serra da Leba mountain range; the cultural influences and idiosyncrasies of individual street art scenes, and how they mesh with local communities; and eL Seed's project 'Perception', a huge multi-part mural stretching across more than fifty buildings in Cairo's Zaraeeb neighbourhood, revealing a message of hope to its marginalized community in the artist's distinctive 'calligraffiti' style. Text commentaries elaborating on styles and processes, and social and cultural context, are peppered throughout the book, giving the reader further insight into a wealth of striking contemporary visual cultures - and helping make this a must-have for street art fans and practitioners.

Banksy Captured

BANKSY CAPTURED by Steve Lazarides, now available to the book trade for the first time, charts the birth of our modern-day Robin Hood. A true art legend, a man able to articulate the voice of sub-culture that made its way to the mainstream. The negatives for these pictures lay in Lazarides’ loft for many years. Whilst Banksy’s rise to fame became undeniable these pictures took on a different meaning than just personal, private documentation. Along with never before heard tales of the artist at work and absurdist capers from their time working together BANKSY CAPTURED shares a moment in time before the artworld and most of the globe took note. From the introduction: I first met this scruffy, moody guy known as Banksy around 1997. At the time I was the inhouse photographer and picture editor for the magazine Sleaze Nation, created and edited by the wonderfully eccentric Steve Beale. He'd heard a rumour about an innovative young graffiti artist known as Banksy. Partly because we were all Bristolians and a pretty partisan bunch, he asked me to try and track him down. Through my contacts in Bristol, I got a hook up. We first met down by the docks where Banksy was helping coordinate an event called Walls on Fire. I drove Steve and I down to the rendezvous. Even at this point being anonymous was high on Banksy's agenda, and I was only permitted to photograph the back of his head. Afterwards we went on an almighty bender. The only downside was that when I returned the following day to pick up the car it had been nicked. In hindsight, it's weird to think that this meeting would go on to alter the course of my life. This book isn't about me as his manager, agent, or gallerist. It is a celebration of my time as a photographer documenting the birth of a legend. I had a back stage pass; permission to accompany him and document some of his most iconic imagery. It was only very recently, when looking through the whole of my picture archive, that I began to see the cultural value of this body of work. The portraits, reportage of Banksy putting works on the streets, shots in the studio and the documentation of his early art, have not had the airtime they deserve. Steve Lazarides

The Stencil Graffiti Handbook

A wave of protest is in the air and on the walls! A new generation of politicized artists, designers and communicators the world over are using stencil art as an accessible yet powerful means of giving voice to their ideas. The Stencil Graffiti Handbook sees Tristan Manco back on the streets. Through an incomparable network of street-art contacts, gained through over two decades of immersion in the scene, Manco has scoured the globe to find the most interesting street artists working today - those operating outside of the mainstream market of 'Urban Art' and beneath the radar of everyone but the true cognoscenti. Exploring the medium's applications within grassroots activism as well as the contemporary craft scene, Manco brings this thriving artform to light. Showing both process and results, The Stencil Graffiti Handbook dives into street art's essential elements - place, space, technique and subject - before taking to the streets to see how, where and why stencil graffiti is king. Also featuring studio visits with artists and practical, step-by-step guidance via artist-led projects, with specially commissioned instructional illustrations by the renowned Colombian collective Instituto Bogotano de Corte, The Stencil Graffiti Handbook is an unmissable education and inspiration for anyone with an open mind and a rebellious spirit.

Street Art

Street Art is a phenomenon and subcultural movement that reaches from the darkest urban backstreets to the most glamorous international art fairs. Simon Armstrong examines how it evolved from its origins in the 1970s New York graffiti scene to embrace many new materials, styles and techniques along the way, tracing how this marginal art form graduated into art galleries and the art market, while also heavily influencing design, fashion, advertising and visual culture. Despite having earned a place in the canon of 20th-century art history, Street Art's qualifications are often disputed both by the art establishment and practitioners themselves, all concerned with notions of authenticity. Examining Street Art's controversial history in detail, this book provides a full-colour worldwide journey, taking in all of the movement's significant artists and artworks, styles, materials and methods, and showcasing the works that have come to define it more than any other. It also examines its close relationship to Pop Art and Digital Art, and explores possible futures for Street Art.

SkateArt - From the Object to the Artwork

The 2000s proved a turning point for the skateboard and its relationship to art. Previously restricted to practical use, the skate deck left the pavement to appear on the walls of galleries and auction houses. Such was the advent of an entirely new contemporary art movement, laconically baptised Skate Art. From silk-screening to Posca markers, from repurposing and twisted shapes to upcycling broken boards, this volume provides an overview of the most significant techniques and decks of the last two decades. Artists from the realm of Street Art have long had a close relationship with Skate culture, and figures like Shepard Fairey, D*Face and ROA are among the first to have applied their art to this support. At the other end of the spectrum, Mark Gonzales, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton are pure products of the skater world, and it was through their collaborations with brands to produce boards that they acceded to the title of artist. In its 320 pages, this anthology presents a specialised and eclectic selection of decks made by artists from all over the world. Text in English and French.

Street Fonts

Classic graffiti lettering and experimental typographical forms lie at the heart of street culture and have long inspired designers in many different fields. But graffiti artists, who tend to paint the same letters of their tag again and again, rarely design complete alphabets. Claudia Walde has spent over two years collecting alphabets by 154 artists from 30 countries with a view to showing the many different styles and approaches to lettering within the graffiti and street art cultures. All of the artists have roots in graffiti. Some are world renowned such as 123 Klan (Canada), Faith47 (South Africa) and Hera (Germany); others are lesser known or only now starting to emerge. Each artist received the same brief: to design all 26 letters of the Latin alphabet within the limits of a single page of the book. How they approached this task and selected the media with which to express their ideas was entirely up to them. The results are a fascinating insight into the creative process.

Stik

From the publishers behind Banksy's mega-selling Wall and Piece, comes the fully-illustrated, beautifully presented book by feted London street artist, Stik. Stik first came to notoriety as an underground street artist who painted life-size stick figures during the night around London's East End. As a firm believer in the right to protest, the freedom of speech, and basic human rights, Stik has now painted murals in cities, towns and villages all over the world, focusing his work in communities which have not been afraid to express themselves in the face of repression and disenfranchisement. Having gained an international following, Stik credits his audience with the intelligence to fill in the details with just six lines and two dots to imply emotion. Each piece is a meditation. This is the first collected volume of his work to date. It reveals the political and artistic inspiration behind the work of one of this country's most brilliant and inspiring artists.
