Walton Ford
At first glance, Walton Ford's large-scale, highly detailed watercolors of animals recall the prints of 19th-century illustrators John James Audubon and Edward Lear. A closer look reveals a complex and disturbingly anthropomorphic universe, full of symbols, sly jokes, and allusions to the 'operatic' quality of traditional natural history.
In this stunning but sinister visual universe, beasts and birds are not mere aesthetic objects but dynamic actors in allegorical struggles: a wild turkey crushes a small parrot in its claw; a troupe of monkeys wreaks havoc on a formal dinner table; an American buffalo is surrounded by bloodied white wolves. Turner's Last Sketchbook
A beautifully produced facsimile of the last known intact sketchbook by J. M. W. Turner
J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851) seldom left home without a sketchbook. Over the course of his lifetime, he filled more than three hundred, most of them small enough to carry in his pocket. This facsimile represents Turner’s last known intact sketchbook, now in the collection of the Yale Center for British Art. Turner used it on the coast of the English Channel in Kent, in and around Margate, from June to September 1845.
The volume is accompanied by a poem in which Tracey Emin (b. 1963) expresses her profound connection with Turner’s work. Emin grew up in Margate, the seaside town that Turner returned to time and again to draw.
This presentation of Turner’s sketchbook includes generous margins and blank pages to encourage further sketches, in the spirit of the artist.

Food and surrealism make perfect bedfellows: sex and lobsters, collage and cannibalism, the meeting of a swan and a toothbrush on a pastry case. The opulent dinner parties thrown by Salvador Dalí (1904-1989) and his wife and muse, Gala (1894-1982) were the stuff of legend. Luckily for us, Dalí published a cookbook in 1973, Les diners de Gala, which reveals some of the sensual, imaginative, and exotic elements that made up their notorious gatherings.
This abridged reissue features 78 of his recipes over 12 chapters, specially illustrated by Dalí, and organized by meal courses, including aphrodisiacs. The illustrations and recipes are accompanied by Dalí's extravagant musings on subjects such as dinner conversation: "The jaw is our best tool to grasp philosophical knowledge."
All these rich recipes can be cooked at home, although some will require practiced skill and a well-stocked pantry. This is cuisine of the old school, with meals by leading French chefs. Good taste, however voluptuous, never goes out of fashion. Galerie Sklad M1
Publikace je souhrnným katalogem výstav a akcí, které proběhly v rámci studentské galerie Sklad M1 v prvním patře na AVU za posledních pět let. Galerie vznikla z iniciativy studentů a studentek ateliéru Malby 1. Za dobu fungování galerie se podařilo uspořádat dvacet sedm výstav, z toho dvě se zahraničními hosty a jednu ve veřejném prostoru. Publikace prezentuje fotografický záznam z akcí a je představením kolektivní práce studentů a studentek, jež se na provozu galerie podíleli. V průběhu let se v galerii angažovali studující nejenom z ateliéru Malby 1 na AVU, ale také ze sochařských ateliérů a z Vysoké školy uměleckoprůmyslové v Praze. Hanku Kuklíkovou, Matěje Lišku, Marii Kuklíkovou, Vladyslava Afanasieva, Matěje Martince a Josefa Šmída spojil zájem o vytvoření galerie k prezentování studentské tvorby a místa pro pravidelné setkávání studentů. Hlavní myšlenkou galerie vždy bylo poskytovat výstavní příležitost studentům a absolventům vysokých uměleckých škol. A to zejména těm, kteří si o výstavní příležitost neumí říct, sami ji nevyhledávají a nedostává se jim tak pozornosti, kterou si zasluhují.

Many artists share the desire for involvement with the self and their own appearance. In the oeuvre of Egon Schiele, self-portraits occupy a central role. Over a period of many years Schiele recorded himself in various poses and styles. This publication focuses in detail on this crucial and yet often only marginally mentioned aspect of his art.
Egon Schiele’s contorted and eccentric figures are among the world’s iconic images. For many of these works he and his own body served as model. His interest often lay not in his own self, but more generally in the position of the individual in the changing modern world. As in experimental arrangements, Schiele poses in a variety of roles. In doing so he “uses” his face and wears it like a mask. The publication offers a comprehensive representation of this life theme of the artist genius.
Yun Hyong-keun / Paris
A contemplative exploration of the work of Yun Hyong-keun, a renowned Korean abstract painter, during a transformative period in the early 1980s
From 1980 to 1982, Yun Hyong-keun resided in Paris, seeking both peace from the violent political turmoil that exploded in South Korea in 1980 and a new, artistic center in which to create work. His brief but illuminating stay in the city became the locus of his freedom of expression.
Yun’s signature abstract compositions engage and transcend Eastern and Western art movements and visual traditions, establishing him as one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. He is the most prominent figure associated with the Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting) movement, the name given to a group of influential Korean artists from the 1960s and 1970s. Using a restricted palette of ultramarine and umber, Yun created his compositions of monolithic swathes by adding layer upon layer of paint to raw canvas or linen and to hanji (Korean mulberry paper), often applying the next coat before the one below had dried.
Published on the occasion of the artist’s exhibition at David Zwirner, Paris, in 2023, this limited-run cloth-bound catalogue focuses on his paintings and works on hanji made in Paris. In an accompanying text, the art historian Oh Gwangsu considers Yun’s work prior to his move to Paris, particularly the artist’s shift toward his signature works in the 1970s. The writer Mara Hoberman reflects on Yun’s practice and influences upon his arrival in the European capital, including an examination of his more nuanced understanding of the color black, which takes on different meanings in France and Korea.

Julian Schnabel makes art out of life, finding his materials in the fabric of the everyday. He uses broken plates as an improbable picture ground; he paints on velvet, market stall covers, army tarps, kabuki theater backdrops, and boxing ring floors, found surfaces that lend their own rich history to the artist’s exploration. A figurehead for the return of painting after his overnight success with a first New York solo show in 1979, he has since worked in a wide variety of media: making sculptures that transpose his pictorial forms into space as raw, seemingly time-worn artifacts; directing award-winning movies that paint portraits of artists and other subtly heroic figures; and even building his own dream of a Venetian palace in New York. “I want my life to be in my work, crushed into my painting like a pressed car. If it’s not, my work is just some stuff,” Schnabel has said, and this urgency permeates his oeuvre no matter what means or media the artist chooses.

Luka Brase a jeho parížske denníky - et ses journaux parisiens
Úspešný slovenský výtvarník a svetobežník Luka Brase pred časom absolvoval tvorivé pobyty v známom parížskom Cité International des Arts a po návrate sa stretol s historikom umenia a kurátorom Máriusom Matákom. Obaja si uvedomili, že z množstva pracovného materiálu nie je ideálne pripravovať výstavu, ale aj to, že kým prvotnou úlohou výtvarníka je kresliť a maľovať, tak paralelne je doménou kunsthistorika písať … tak vznikla myšlienka parížskych denníkov, ktoré ako mozaiku zloží svojimi obrazmi Luka Brase, aby „ ich pre neho, cez neho a za neho“ napísal Márius Maták. Edvard Munch - Magic of the North
Munch’s pictorial worlds – the initial impetus for modernism
Edvard Munch’s radical modernity in painting was a challenge for his contemporaries. This applied in particular to the art scene in Berlin around 1900 which the Norwegian Symbolist artist influenced profoundly. In return, he received support there and was able to continue to develop his work. The publication is lavishly illustrated and describes knowledgeably the story of Munch and Berlin.
In 1892 the Association of Berlin Artists invited the still-unknown Edvard Munch (1863–1944) to an exhibition. The public was shocked by the colourful, sketch-like pictures. The artist enjoyed the furore and moved to the city on the Spree, where he repeatedly sojourned until 1908. Here he learned the techniques for printed graphics and presented for the first time paintings in several continuous series which would become central to his oeuvre. In Berlin, before long, the concept of the “Magic of the North” (Stefan Zweig) was no longer associated with romantic or naturalistic fjord landscapes, but with Munch’s psychologically concentrated pictorial worlds.

Kniha vyšla k výstave Peter Michal Bohúň (1822 - 1879) - maliar vľúdneho štetca, s podnadpisom Poohliadnutie za dobou, životom a dielom najvýznamnejšieho slovenského výtvarného umelca štúrovskej vlasteneckej generácie, ktorá prebiehala v Liptovskej galérii P. M. Bohúňa od 14.12. 2022 do 26.8.2023. Publikácia je v slovenskom a zároveň v anglickom jazyku.
Ladislav Čemický
Publikácia vyšla k výstave Ladislav Čemický (1909 - 2000). Maliar, učiteľ, funkcionár, ktorá prebiehala v Liptovskej galérii P. M. Bohúňa od 14.12.2021 do 4.6.2022. Monografia o rodákovi z obce Čemice na Liptove, Ladislavovi Čemickom, je pokusom o revidovanie už známych faktov o umelcovi, pričom jej zámerom je ich aktualizovať a obohatiť o nové poznatky. Publikácia je výstupom dvojročného výskumu internej kurátorky Veroniky Vaculovej Repovej.

Oldřich Kulhánek
U příležitosti autorovy výstavy v České galerii moderního umění v Praze vydalo nakladatelství X2015 v roce 2023 obrazovou monografii akademického malíře Oldřicha Kulhánka, čítající více jak sto čtyřicet barevných reprodukcí, které vznikly po roce 1993. Monografie je rozdělena do pěti samostatných kapitol. Úvodní text napsal Dr. Jiří Machalický.
New Surrealism
New Surrealism: The Uncanny in Contemporary Painting by Robert Zeller offers a sweeping exposition of both historical Surrealism and its legacy in the world of contemporary art. It demonstrates the many ways in which the most significant art movement of the last century continues to be relevant today, featuring an international selection of contemporary artists whose compositions and studio practice reveal its influence. There are many modalities of historical Surrealism that still maintain contemporary currency: presenting the familiar as unfamiliar and uncanny, the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated imagery, the use of absurdity to critique political or social issues, and the use of erotic imagery in an irrational, non-linear context.
Not all the artists brought together in this book self-identify as Surrealist, per se, but each uses some variation of Surrealism in a personal manner. The book begins with a study of the origins, leadership, participating artists, and major milestones of historical Surrealism. Zeller chronicles the movement starting at the end of World War I and the birth of Dada.
The most important players and events emerge throughout the timeline of events-including World War II, and such notable artists as Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Leonora Carrington, and many others-up until the death of its leader Andre Breton in 1966. Zeller then explores how elements of New Surrealism are being put into practice in the contemporary art world. Section Two offers a survey of 29 contemporary artists who engage in New Surrealism's seemingly unlimited variations of the movement's original themes, including Rosa Loy, Glenn Brown, and Arghavan Khosravi.
Section Three features 14 artists, including important contemporary artists such as Inka Essenhigh, Ginny Casey and Anna Weyant, who speak to Surrealism's influence on their studio practice, detailing in their own words how they create a composition from start to finish.

Spiace idey/Sleeping ideas 2000/2009 2.zväzok
Publikácia Spiace idey, Denníky Otisa Lauberta, 2000 – 2009 je druhým zväzkom knižnej série, prostredníctvom ktorej sa výtvarník Otis Laubert (1946) rozhodol prezentovať svoje doteraz nezverejnené návrhy umeleckých diel.
Otis Laubert si už od roku 1965 zaznamenáva svoje nápady do denníkov, aby ich realizoval neskôr. Dodnes si zaznamenal už vyše desaťtisíc výtvarných ideí, avšak fyzicky zrealizované diela, ktorými je známy, predstavujú len malé percento z nich. Väčšina jeho nápadov tak zostáva pred verejnosťou ukrytá. Knižné spracovanie denníkov Otisa Lauberta nám umožňuje objaviť tematickú rozmanitosť a pestrosť výtvarných techník v tvorbe tohto známeho slovenského výtvarníka. Výtvarné nápady prezentované vo forme kresieb sú v druhom zväzku doplnené sprievodnými textami Kataríny Hubovej, Nadi Kančevovej, Evy Čarnokej, Viliama Klimáčka a Jána Kraloviča.
Az ég, a vizek és a föld vadjai
M. Nagy Szilvia 1976-ban született Győrben. Grafikusi tanulmányainak befejezése óta önálló munkákkal foglalkozik. Tíz gyermekkönyvet,valamint Jorge Luis Borges Képzelt lények könyve című művét illusztrálta; képeit és tudományos pontossággal készített állatszobrait eddig több mint húsz önálló kiállításon mutatta be. Férjével és rókáival Budapesten él.
Szigeti Kovács Viktor 1978-ban született Győrben. A Szegedi Tudományegyetemen 2003-ban szerzett magyar-komparatisztika szakos diplomát. Kortárs magyar irodalommal kapcsolatos kritikái, tanulmányai folyóiratokban (Bárka, Múhely, Forrás stb.) és tanulmánykötetekben jelentek meg. Első regénye az Először volt az erdő 2015-ben látott napvilágot, amit további három követett: Lúna gyermekei, A táltos, A táltos - Karakondzul éjszakája. Az ég madarai című bestiáriumát 2018-ban adta ki a Corvina Kiadó.
