Turner's Last Sketchbook


A beautifully produced facsimile of the last known intact sketchbook by J. M. W. Turner J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851) seldom left home without a sketchbook. Over the course of his lifetime, he filled more than three hundred, most of them small enough to carry in his pocket. This facsimile represents Turner’s last known intact sketchbook, now in the collection of the Yale Center for British Art. Turner used it on the coast of the English Channel in Kent, in and around Margate, from June to September 1845. The volume is accompanied by a poem in which Tracey Emin (b. 1963) expresses her profound connection with Turner’s work. Emin grew up in Margate, the seaside town that Turner returned to time and again to draw. Galerie Sklad M1


Publikace je souhrnným katalogem výstav a akcí, které proběhly v rámci studentské galerie Sklad M1 v prvním patře na AVU za posledních pět let. Galerie vznikla z iniciativy studentů a studentek ateliéru Malby 1. Za dobu fungování galerie se podařilo uspořádat dvacet sedm výstav, z toho dvě se zahraničními hosty a jednu ve veřejném prostoru. Publikace prezentuje fotografický záznam z akcí a je představením kolektivní práce studentů a studentek, jež se na provozu galerie podíleli. V průběhu let se v galerii angažovali studující nejenom z ateliéru Malby 1 na AVU, ale také ze sochařských ateliérů a z Vysoké školy uměleckoprůmyslové v Praze. Hanku Kuklíkovou, Matěje Lišku, Marii Kuklíkovou, Vladyslava Afanasieva, Matěje Martince a Josefa Šmída spojil zájem o vytvoření galerie k prezentování studentské tvorby a místa pro pravidelné setkávání studentů. Hlavní myšlenkou galerie vždy bylo poskytovat výstavní příležitost studentům a absolventům vysokých uměleckých škol. A to zejména těm, kteří si o výstavní příležitost neumí říct, sami ji nevyhledávají a nedostává se jim tak pozornosti, kterou si zasluhují.

Yun Hyong-keun / Paris


A contemplative exploration of the work of Yun Hyong-keun, a renowned Korean abstract painter, during a transformative period in the early 1980s From 1980 to 1982, Yun Hyong-keun resided in Paris, seeking both peace from the violent political turmoil that exploded in South Korea in 1980 and a new, artistic center in which to create work. His brief but illuminating stay in the city became the locus of his freedom of expression. Yun’s signature abstract compositions engage and transcend Eastern and Western art movements and visual traditions, establishing him as one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. He is the most prominent figure associated with the Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting) movement, the name given to a group of influential Korean artists from the 1960s and 1970s. Using a restricted palette of ultramarine and umber, Yun created his compositions of monolithic swathes by adding layer upon layer of paint to raw canvas or linen and to hanji (Korean mulberry paper), often applying the next coat before the one below had dried. Published on the occasion of the artist’s exhibition at David Zwirner, Paris, in 2023, this limited-run cloth-bound catalogue focuses on his paintings and works on hanji made in Paris. In an accompanying text, the art historian Oh Gwangsu considers Yun’s work prior to his move to Paris, particularly the artist’s shift toward his signature works in the 1970s. The writer Mara Hoberman reflects on Yun’s practice and influences upon his arrival in the European capital, including an examination of his more nuanced understanding of the color black, which takes on different meanings in France and Korea.

Luka Brase a jeho parížske denníky - et ses journaux parisiens


Úspešný slovenský výtvarník a svetobežník Luka Brase pred časom absolvoval tvorivé pobyty v známom parížskom Cité International des Arts a po návrate sa stretol s historikom umenia a kurátorom Máriusom Matákom. Edvard Munch - Magic of the North


Munch’s pictorial worlds – the initial impetus for modernism Edvard Munch’s radical modernity in painting was a challenge for his contemporaries. This applied in particular to the art scene in Berlin around 1900 which the Norwegian Symbolist artist influenced profoundly. In return, he received support there and was able to continue to develop his work. The publication is lavishly illustrated and describes knowledgeably the story of Munch and Berlin. In 1892 the Association of Berlin Artists invited the still-unknown Edvard Munch (1863–1944) to an exhibition. The public was shocked by the colourful, sketch-like pictures. The artist enjoyed the furore and moved to the city on the Spree, where he repeatedly sojourned until 1908. Here he learned the techniques for printed graphics and presented for the first time paintings in several continuous series which would become central to his oeuvre. In Berlin, before long, the concept of the “Magic of the North” (Stefan Zweig) was no longer associated with romantic or naturalistic fjord landscapes, but with Munch’s psychologically concentrated pictorial worlds.

New Surrealism: The Uncanny in Contemporary Painting by Robert Zeller offers a sweeping exposition of both historical Surrealism and its legacy in the world of contemporary art. It demonstrates the many ways in which the most significant art movement of the last century continues to be relevant today, featuring an international selection of contemporary artists whose compositions and studio practice reveal its influence. Férjével és rókáival Budapesten él. Szigeti Kovács Viktor 1978-ban született Győrben. A Szegedi Tudományegyetemen 2003-ban szerzett magyar-komparatisztika szakos diplomát. Kortárs magyar irodalommal kapcsolatos kritikái, tanulmányai folyóiratokban (Bárka, Múhely, Forrás stb.) és tanulmánykötetekben jelentek meg. Első regénye az Először volt az erdő 2015-ben látott napvilágot, amit további három követett: Lúna gyermekei, A táltos, A táltos - Karakondzul éjszakája. Az ég madarai című bestiáriumát 2018-ban adta ki a Corvina Kiadó.
