Kniha „Dělat okna tam, kde dříve byly zdi“ se věnuje současné evropské figurativní malbě ze sbírky předního českého sběratele Roberta Runtáka. Je rozdělená do tří hlavních částí zpracovaných třemi autory, které se věnují jak stěžejním tendencím sbírky samotné, tak sběratelství a v neposlední řadě také osobě sběratele a jeho pomyslné cestě k sběratelství a umění jako takovému. Friedrich Feigl
Friedrich Feigl (1884, Praha – 1965, Londýn) byl malíř, grafik a ilustrátor výjimečně širokého záběru a rozhledu. Po uměleckých začátcích v Praze v první polovině 20. století, kdy se v roce 1907 zúčastnil první pražské výstavy skupiny Osma, doznal uznání i v Německu, kde žil mezi dvěma válkami, stejně jako později v Anglii, kam utekl před německou okupací Československa. Kniha, na níž pracoval mezinárodní autorský tým, sleduje spletitou Feiglovu životní a uměleckou historii a zkoumá celou škálu historických dokumentů, zachycuje veškerou šíři technik, které ve své tvorbě používal, ať již to byla olejomalba, akvarel, kresba nebo grafické techniky jako litografie, suchá jehla, lept a dřevořez. Pozornost je věnována také židovským a biblickým námětům, jež ve Feiglově díle postupně převážily a neoddělitelně se spojily s jeho vizí modernosti. Vedle toho se kniha zabývá rozmanitou sítí společenských a profesních vztahů, které si umělec budoval ve třech městech (Praze, Berlíně a Londýně), v nichž žil a tvořil. Tyto vztahy mu poskytovaly zásadní oporu v umění, pevné přátelské svazky a pocit sounáležitosti. Dvoujazyčná česko-německá kniha obsahuje obsáhlou biografii, soupis pramenů a anglické resumé.

Picassovy paradoxy
Mojmír Grygar v esejistické studii o Picassově malířském a výtvarném díle polemizuje s autory, kteří do té míry zdůrazňují proměnlivé peripetie jeho životopisu, že jim podřizují i vznik a proměny malířova mnohotvárného díla. Autor přechází od rozboru strukturních a slohových zvláštností jednotlivých fází Picassova díla k vystižení jeho vývojových proměn. Picassovy paradoxy spočívají v přítomnosti protikladných sil, které znesnadňují jednoduchou charakteristiku jeho tvorby. Picasso v průběhu bezmála osmdesáti let střídal citové a racionální přístupy, intimní a monumentální témata, stylizované i destruktivní proměny tvarů anorganického a organického světa. Svou tvorbu neohraničil v rámci jednoho slohu, tematiky nebo žánru, tvůrčí postupy měnil a střídal spíš podle principu rozporu a popření než postupného rozvíjení. V jeho tvůrčím naturelu převládá nadvláda agresivní aktivity (šamanství) nad pozitivní vyvážeností estetického zřetele. Autor polemizuje s popisným biografismem, ale osobní a společenské okolnosti malířova života doplňuje cennými postřehy sociologické a psychologické charakteristiky. Také pasáže věnované mezinárodnímu kontextu Picassova díla přinášejí nové poznatky; týká se to zejména jeho vlivu na ruskou avantgardu. Ramblings of a Wannabe Painter

Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) wrote "Racontars de Rapin" only months before he died in 1903, but the essay remained unpublished until 1951. Through discussions of numerous artists, both his contemporaries and predecessors, Gauguin unpacks what he viewed as the mistakes and misjudgments behind much of art criticism, revealing not only how wrong critics' interpretations have been, but also what it would mean to approach art properly--to really look.
