The Wise and Their Works
The Wise and Their Works celebrates the 175th anniversary of the Great Exhibition in 2026. The men who inspired the Great Exhibition of 1851 - Henry Cole, Sir Robert Peel and above all Prince Albert himself - were at the centre of an extraordinary combination of manufacturing, commercial skill and political vision which made Victorian Britain an unparalleled success story. In this celebratory book, A. N. Wilson examines the legacy they left behind: their idealistic beliefs about free trade, decency and parliamentary democracy, and their ultimate vision of the human race at peace with prosperity spreading, while poverty and warfare were consigned to history. While their loftier ambitions may not have come to pass, these enterprising men did leave behind a little known but hugely influential organisation, the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, which still supports industry, science and art in the UK. Skillfully delving into this rich and fascinating history, Wilson takes us on a journey into the heart of the progressive Victorian dream, and where it has left us today.
Etika mezikulturního a mezináboženského dialogu
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Explore the Stories Behind the LegendsFirst introduced in 2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales reconceived Spider-Man as African American and Latinx, and his debut marked a new direction in the saga of a beloved character. Miles Morales as Spider-Man is a coming-of-age tale of a smart, affable teen coming into his power. From his reluctance to becoming a super hero to his desire to help others, to the rocky balance between his school life and super hero responsibilities, Miles is always at the precipice of making tough decisions—choices whose consequences are as weighted in his personal life as they often are for the survival of the world. Illustrated with full-color art, Ytasha L. Womack’s entry in the Marvel Age of Comics looks at the hugely successful reimagining of one of the most popular super hero characters of all time.
Invitation to Faith
In a world where life’s problems can feel overwhelming, how can we live with peace of min? o you ever wonder:• Why doesn’t life go the way I want?• What awaits us after death?• If God or Buddha exists, why do wars and disasters still occur?“Life is a workbook of problems to be solved,” teaches Ryuho Okawa—renowned spiritual leader and best-selling author. Just as the lotus blooms beautifully in muddy water, we too can allow our inner flower to blossom, no matter the hardships we face. God or Buddha never burdens us with a load heavier than we can bear. The path to enlightenment involves not only attaining wisdom by solving life’s problems but also cultivating a selfless, pure love for others—grounded in the knowledge that this world is not the only world, and that life continues beyond death. This transparent, unconditional love reflects the teachings of Hermes, the Greek god of prosperity and mysticism, who taught that true love should be as pure and transparent as the wind, asking nothing in return. Bridging the Eastern Buddhist path of enlightenment with the selfless love of Western Hermetic thought, Invitation to Faith presents a contemporary, universal faith—one that unites belief in a higher power with daily self-improvement. It encourages us to live in a world of Truth, goodness, and beauty.

Urban landscapes in Iron Age Iberia
Urban Landscapes in Iron Age Iberia provides an up-to-date synthesis on the urbanism of Iron Age hillforts and oppida of Iberia. The emergence of large and complex fortified settlements is a characteristic phenomenon of the period between the Late Iron Age and the expansion of the Roman Empire (4th–1st centuries BC) in extensive areas of Central and Western Europe. In this geographical context the Iberian Peninsula has a key position between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. A vast Spanish and Portuguese scientific literature has revealed a very diverse scenario with different paths for the development of complex urbanism, in some cases presenting clear alternatives to the Mediterranean models introduced by Phoenician-Punic, Greek, and Roman influence. The book integrates a series of novel contributions from across Iberian archaeology, with an explicit examination of urban structures using a rigorous multidisciplinary approach. Together they demonstrate the potential value and relevance of archaeological data for Urbanization Studies.
All Can Achieve
In 1986, Sylvan High School in Crystal Palacewas a broken school, with a pass rate of 9 per cent, truancy of 60 per cent andteachers who seldom lasted longer than six months. Today, the Harris CityAcademy Crystal Palace, Sylvan’s successor, is hailed as one of the bestschools in the country. This transformation was the blueprint for anational education revolution. Philip Harris’s achievements paved the way forthe academies movement, and academies now account for nearly half of England’sschools. The same remarkable effect can be seen throughout the HarrisFederation, the most successful multi-academy trust in England, which runsfifty-nine state academies with around 50,000 students and 5,000 members ofstaff. Every single one is rated ‘Good’ or better by Ofsted, and seven wererecently listed in an international report as ‘World Class’. The Harris revolution has driven theextraordinary improvements in our education system over the past twenty years. In 2009, England lagged at twenty-seventh in the world for maths andtwenty-fifth for reading. Today, reports show it is among the best-performingcountries in Europe. All Can Achieveis both the inspiring account of how Philip Harris took on the near-impossiblechallenge of turning around failing state schools and the inside story of aseismic change in English education.
Impossibility of Nothingness
In an extraordinary late flowering, these new poems — written in his nineties — are still characteristically and unmistakeably the crafted work of Ian McDonald, and they are also remarkably other.McDonald’s hallmark qualities are all still here: a capacity for genuine compassion; an exploration of the complex nature of love; a profound engagement with the natural world; and character vignettes, powerfully drawn, empathetic but never sentimental, that are an essential archive of a disappearing Guyana. These late poems bring new angles on McDonald’s perennial themes. There is the exploration of memory and intimations of mortality, a focus on grandchildren, the garden and the sheer wonder of being alive at the poet’s great age. But in addition, there is something new-minted and unrestrained about the language of these later poems that is remarkable. These poems are, if anything, even more surprising, moving and inspirational than those pieces beloved by generations of Caribbean readers. There is a kind of carefree truthfulness about the poems in The Impossibility of Nothingness. Richly imagistic, the poems feel elemental, written without the constraint of wanting approval or applause but because they demanded to be written. As he says in the final line of the short title poem – which is an assertion of the possibility of momentary joy in even the bleakest of situations – “I record this just in case it’s true”.

Autor vychádza z analýzy slovenského právneho stavu, v ktorom klimatické povinnosti zostávajú rozptýlené v strategických dokumentoch a sektorovej regulácii bez zákonom ukotveného prepojenia medzi plánovaním, monitorovaním, vykazovaním, korekciou odchýlok a zodpovednosťou za neplnenie. Komparatívna časť je zostavená metodicky „po prvkoch", nie štát po štáte, čo umožňuje identifikovať prenositeľné normatívne riešenia naprieč vybranými právnymi poriadkami. Na tomto základe autor formuluje minimálnu normatívnu štruktúru kľúčových prvkov, ktoré sú spôsobilé prepojiť riadiace mechanizmy klimatickej politiky a urobiť ich právne vynútiteľnými a odolnými voči politickým zmenám. Publikácia je určená akademickej obci, tvorcom politík, legislatívcom, pracovníkom verejnej správy aj širšej odbornej verejnosti.
