How far will she go to save her friend? Every deal comes with a price ...
Between Two Rivers
Thousands of years ago, in a part of the world we now call ancient Mesopotamia, people began writing things down for the very first time.
What they left behind, in a vast region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, preserves leaps in human ingenuity, like the earliest depiction of a wheel and the first approximation of pi. But they also capture breathtakingly intimate, raw and relatable moments, like a dog's paw prints as it accidentally stepped into fresh clay, or the imprint of a child's teeth.
In Between Two Rivers, historian Dr Moudhy Al-Rashid reveals what these ancient people chose to record about their lives, allowing us to brush hands with them millennia later. We find a lullaby to soothe a baby, instructions for exorcising a ghost, countless receipts for beer, and the adorable, messy writing of preschoolers. We meet an enslaved person negotiating their freedom, an astronomer tracing the movement of the planets, a princess who may have created the world's first museum, and a working mother struggling with 'the juggle' in 1900 BCE.
Together, these fragments illuminate not just the history of Mesopotamia, but the story of how history was made.
Catherine: A Retelling of Wuthering Heights
The greatest tragic love story ever told – but this time, Catherine tells it herself. In Catherine, Essie Fox breathes new life into Wuthering Heights, transforming a gothic masterpiece into a haunting confession of obsession, madness and love that even death cannot end.
With a nature as wild as the moors she loves to roam, Catherine Earnshaw grows up alongside Heathcliff, a foundling her father rescued from the streets of Liverpool. Their fierce, untamed bond deepens as they grow – until Mr Earnshaw’s death leaves Hindley, Catherine’s brutal brother, in control and Heathcliff reduced to servitude.
Desperate to protect him, Catherine turns to Edgar Linton, the handsome heir to Thrushcross Grange. She believes his wealth might free Heathcliff from cruelty – but her choice is fatally misunderstood, and their lives spiral into a storm of passion, jealousy and revenge.
Now, eighteen years later, Catherine rises from her grave to tell her story – and seek redemption.
Essie Fox’s Catherine reimagines Wuthering Heights with beauty and intensity – a haunting, atmospheric retelling that brings new life to a timeless classic and lays bare the dark heart of an immortal love.

Tünetek
A tó vize sohasem édes szerzőjétől
Új regénye pontosan ábrázolja a modern élet láthatatlan kríziseit: a szorongást, a túlterheltséget, a csendes lemondást, amit senki sem nevez betegségnek.

Lucian Freud - Drawing into Painting
Drawing into Painting reveals Lucian Freud’s lifelong focus on the human face and form, tracing the intimate dialogue between his sketches and paintings from the 1930s to the early 21st century. Lucian Freud (1922–2011) is celebrated as one of the great figurative realist artists of the twentieth century, who devoted his artistic life to portraiture. Famously stating that ‘everything is a portrait’, he created intensely observed portraits of animals and plants, as well as his family members and those in his social circle and daily life.
Drawing into Painting explores how drawing remained central to Freud’s artistic practice throughout his life. From quick sketches to finished works in charcoal, pastel, and etching, his drawings offer a rare window into his process, revealing shifts in style, experimentation, and his evolving way of seeing. Spanning from his childhood to his final years, the book traces the unconventional path from his drawing practice to his painting, and back again.
Alongside a selection of key paintings by Freud and others, the book includes conversations with David Dawson, Freud’s close friend and assistant, and Bella Freud, the artist’s daughter. Insightful essays by writer and curator Catherine Lampert, British Museum drawings curator Isabel Seligman, and acclaimed novelist Colm Tóibín further illuminates Freud’s world and legacy.

To Lose a War
Jon Lee Anderson first reported from Afghanistan in the late 1980s, covering the US-backed mujahideen’s insurrection against the Soviet-backed regime in Kabul. Within days of the 9/11 attacks, he was again on the ground as an early eyewitness to the new war launched by the US against the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. At the time, the American military had prevailed on the battlefield, and the newfound peace seemed to offer a precious space for Afghan society to restore itself and to forge a democratic future. But all was not well: Osama bin Laden was still in hiding, the Taliban were stealthily reorganizing for a comeback, and the United States was about to turn its attention to Iraq. To Lose a War collects Anderson’s writing from Afghanistan over a near-quarter-century span, offering a chronological account of a monumental tragedy as it unfolds. The colossal waste, missed signals, and wishful thinking that characterized the twenty-year arc of the US-led war in Afghanistan have consecrated it as one of the greatest foreign policy failures of the modern era, and a bellwether of a larger American imperial decline.
In the Forest
The spruces are so close together that the barks are a sable-brown. Michael O'Kane is known as the 'Kinderschrek', the 'child scarer'. He haunts Cloosh Wood in western Ireland. As a boy he lost his mother and by the age of ten he was in prison. Now he seeks sacrificial victims to satisfy his delusional fantasies: a beautiful young mother, her infant son and a trusting priest, who are enticed into the forest. Inspired by a real triple homicide, this novel is a 'tour de force of finely restrained fury' (Newsday).
Crossing the Line
THIS UPDATED NEW EDITION REVEALS THE EXPLOSIVE INSIDE STORY BEHIND THE BEN ROBERTS-SMITH HEADLINES AND THE TRUTH BEHIND THE ATTACKS ON AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST NICK McKENZIE. 'There is no doubt the truth would have been concealed and our concerns buried without Nick McKenzie's relentless pursuit of justice.' SAS Afghanistan veteranWar is brutal. But there are lines that should never be crossed. In mid-2017, whispers of executions and cover-ups within Australia's most secretive and elite military unit, the SAS, reached Walkley Award-winning journalist Nick McKenzie. He and Chris Masters began an investigation that would not only reveal shocking truths about Ben Roberts-Smith VC but plunge the reporters into the defamation trial of the century. For five years, McKenzie led the investigation, waging an epic battle for the truth to be acknowledged. His fight to reveal the real face of Australia's most famous and revered SAS soldier and examine evidence of bullying, intimidation, war crimes and murder would take him across Australia and to Afghanistan. As he unearthed the secrets Ben Roberts-Smith had thought he'd long ago buried, McKenzie had to deal with death threats, powerful forces intent on destroying his career and attempts to silence brave SAS soldiers, who had witnessed their famous comrade commit unspeakable acts. And even after the trial judgement, headlines attacking McKenzie continued. However, the Federal Court of Appeal upheld the original judgment, finding again that Fairfax Media had proven the substantial truth of serious allegations against Ben Roberts-Smith - and believing eyewitness accounts from fellow Australian soldiers. This latest chapter is a defining moment for Australian journalism, press freedom and accountability within the military. Nick McKenzie broke the stories that proved the man at one time idolised by the public, politicians, the media and leading business leaders was indeed a myth. His efforts will help deliver justice to Roberts-Smith's victims and their families. Explosive and meticulously researched, Crossing the Line shares the powerful untold story of how a small group of brave soldiers and two determined reporters overcame a plot to suppress one of the greatest military scandals in Australian history. 'Extraordinary . . . Riveting . . . An insight into the finest investigative journalism in this country' Law Institute Journal'The definitive account of the fall of Ben Roberts-Smith and a vital reminder of the power of journalism. It is a tour de force.' Ben Doherty, The Guardian
The Street Clinic

While the rest of us are worrying about it, Dorcas Gwata is doing something about it' - HHJ Wendy Joseph, author of Unlawful Killings'The appetite for medical memoirs has never been greater . . . a welcome and important addition' - The Independent, Books to Look Out for in 2026Through the lives of ten young people an award-winning nurse reveals the impact of gang culture on mental health. Dorcas Gwata is an award-winning nurse specialising in mental health. She has worked closely with vulnerable young people exposed to the knife crime, sexual exploitation, drug use and poor mental health associated with gangs. Drawing on her own experiences of loss and social injustice, and twenty-five years on the NHS frontline, Dorcas offers a bird’s-eye view of London: its multicultural population, wealth inequalities, tireless healthcare professionals, and an NHS that doesn’t always work for everyone. And she asks the big questions: What lies behind London’s youth violence crisis? What is its impact on the mental health of its victims? How are the families of our young people and the wider community affecte? xposing some uncomfortable truths about British society, The Street Clinic is also a powerful story of resilience, strength and, ultimately, hope.
