Disonance a fata morgána
Kniha Disonance a fata morgána je závěrečnou částí dlouhodobého projektu mapujícího českou literaturu 20. století, stejně jako metodologické možnosti, jimiž v současnosti disponuje literární historie. Projekt byl zahájen v roce 2010 publikací Dějiny nové moderny. Česká literatura v letech 1905–1923 a pokračoval pak dalšími díly: Lomy vertikál. Česká literatura v letech 1924–1934 (2014), Věk horizontál. Česká literatura v letech 1935–1947 (2017) a Chór a disonance. Česká literatura 1947–1963 (2022).
Aktuální svazek se věnuje období od roku 1964 do roku 1971. Titul odkazuje k specifické charakteristice periody, která je typická kontradikcemi a paradoxy. Krátké období, v němž individualistické hlasy vítězily nad režimní „chóričností“ a otevíraly výhled do velkého světa svobody, bylo přerušeno drastickými událostmi okupace v srpnu 1968 a následnou „normalizací“.
Publikace „Judikatura práva rodiny – čtvrtý doplněk“ navazuje na předchozí publikace ediční řady a zahrnuje části nazvané Rodičovství, otcovství a mateřství, Participační práva dětí, Výživné, Procesní otázky, Společné jmění manželů, Úprava styku, Majetkové otázky práva rodiny, Správní a trestní otázky práva rodiny. Přesahuje tedy hranice samotného oboru rodinného práva a přináší široké spektrum odpovědí.
Edice obsahuje odbornou i přátelskou korespondenci adresovanou Bohuslavu Havránkovi, přednímu lingvistovi 20. století. Zahrnuje období od roku 1924 do roku 1977. Její hlavní část spadá do čtyřicátých a padesátých let 20. století z pera trojice význačných vědců: Františka Trávníčka, Vladimíra Šmilauera a Bohuslava Havránka (jim úspěšně sekunduje lexikograf Alois Získal).

Second Life
'Acutely empathetic, thoroughly researched, funny, irreverent and moving' Observer'What a book!' Marianne Levy, author of Don't Forget to Scream'I loved it' Lucy Jones, author of Matrescence In Second Life, Hess tells her deeply personal story of a pregnancy that falls outside the feted category of 'normal'. But this is also a story about all of us. For as she made her way through a bizarre digital world of pregnancy apps, prenatal genetic tests, gender reveal videos, rare disease Facebook groups, 'freebirth' influencers and hospital reality shows, Hess realised that ideas of eugenics, surveillance, ableism and hyper-individualism are being sold through shiny technologies to a new generation of parents.
The Poems of Sylvia Plath
'When I think of Sylvia Plath, I am in awe of her intelligence, her language, her wit, her consonantal music - her sheer gift, and what must have been her drive, as its guardian, possessor, possessee, to realise it.' Sharon OldsThe Poems of Sylvia Plath is a landmark publication: the definitive edition of the poet's work for scholars, students and general readers. Sylvia Plath's first Collected Poems was published in 1981. This new volume draws on decades of research and almost doubles the content of that edition. The book is in two parts: the first contains the poems Plath composed in the last ten years of her life and upon which her reputation is founded, and the second includes those poems written in childhood and through her student years. In both sections, the editors have dated, corrected and arranged each poem chronologically, drawing on manuscripts, typescripts and related archival material. Critical notes document and cast new light on Plath's extraordinary evolution as a poet, from her childhood compositions, through the early blossoming of her talent and ambition, and into the molten core that was to shape the poems of her last few years, securing her place in literary history.
Milk Wood Memoir
Milk Wood Memoir, the fourth collection by Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch, opens with a handful of family recollections of Dylan Thomas, including Samantha’s grandfather’s presence in the poet’s house on the night he was shot at in March 1945. Thomas’s wartime sojourn in New Quay in West Wales from 1944 to 1945 was one of the most important creative periods in his life. Many scholars have linked the small coastal town to the imagined Llareggub (buggerall) in which Thomas set his most famous work, Under Milk Wood. New Quay’s present-day poet-resident, Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch, takes up the baton of the guide who never made it into the final version of Thomas’s play, showing us around her hometown through the eyes of its inhabitants past and present. In a series of eco-elegies, she explores how the wood of Under Milk Wood is turning into a floating forest due to coastal erosion. The paths once walked by Dylan Thomas between his bungalow and the pubs of New Quay are slowly collapsing into the sea, taking with them both trees and houses. As the guide takes us along the path she points out moments and monuments, all the while relating various ‘hanes’ (pronounced ha-ness, a Welsh word for stories, gossip) relating to local characters, a sort of family lore handed down the generations. Samantha Wynne-Rhydderch takes us by the hand and shows us the joys and sadnesses, excitements and fears behind the doors of the town she believes is key to Under Milk Wood. ‘Wynne-Rhydderch’s poetry masters a variety of styles, is intelligent, sincere, and deeply human. How lucky we are to have a guide like her’ – Matthew Dickman

The Night of the Scourge
A riveting and epic family drama set in WWII-era Norway, award-winning author Lars Mytting's The Night of the Scourge is the final novel in the internationally bestselling Sister Bells trilogyButangen, Norway, the years before WWII: Astrid Hekne has inherited the fighting spirit and hypersensitivity of her grandmother, who was a protector of the mythic Sister Bells that had once hung in the village's centuries-old stave church. The once-traitorous priest Kai Schweigaard, now in his eighties, is wondering how his death, prophesied in a centuries-old tapestry, will come to pass. He delves into the myths about the Night of the Scourge, which, according to old village beliefs, is when the known world will fall and the Earth will be scraped down to bare rock. Then Norway is occupied by the Nazis. Astrid joins the Resistance, and Kai is thrown out of his own church. Betrayal within Astrid's own family unites the Sister Bells in Dresden. Special effort and sacrifice, not only from the Hekne family, will be needed to combat the postwar rumours and mistrust. This family drama, set in the tumultuous times of WWII, beautifully completes the Sister Bells trilogy. But while it connects to the previous books in surprising and thrilling ways, it can also be read as a standalone, a grand and epic novel that intertwines Norwegian folklore and myths with a rich story of hardship and passion. How to Fly
A unique and all-encompassing exploration of the wonders of flight and the way different species have evolved different solutions to the problem of defying gravity – including humans. Flight fascinates us. We thrill to birds, we adore butterflies, we’re baffled by bats and we can hardly believe in pterodactyls. We worship angels and we compare love, religious ecstasy and artistic achievement to flight. We love the idea of flight so much we invented machines that at last allowed us to fly. Many died to make human flight possible. In How to Fly, bestselling writer Simon Barnes brings together all aspects of aerial life – evolution, technology, mythology, religion, nature and imagination – in a celebration of the wonders of flight. Barnes looks at the physics of flying and how flight has evolved quite separately four times over (or five, if we count humans). He examines how these creatures do it: from the nocturnal agility of bats and the bees that beat their wings 230 times per second, to the extinct reptile quetzalcoatlus with its 10-metre wingspan and the Arctic terns that travel 75,000km every year. He also explores how the great poets, mystics, saints, musicians and athletes have all, in their different ways, succeeded in getting high and getting us high. Sweeping in scope and packed with fresh insights, How to Fly is a book that sets free the eagle within us all. Siege of Kazan 1552
Russian expert Mark Galeotti provides an in-depth look at the siege that pitted Ivan the Terrible and Russia's first standing army against the Khanate of Kazan, leading to Muscovy's rise. The Khanate of Kazan, one of the greatest Turkic successor states to the Mongol Golden Horde, had for generations been a thorn in Muscovy's side, raiding its lands for slaves and plunder. The newly crowned Ivan IV, who would become known as Ivan the Terrible, was determined to end the threat once and for all, leading a massive army against Kazan in 1552, comprising the Streltsy (musketeers), Russia's first standing army, and a massive artillery and engineer train, including an English expert in siegecraft. Kazan was finally taken and brought directly into Muscovy's control, making it a truly multi-ethnic empire. The next four years would see a bitter guerrilla war against the Russians, but they were committed to the march south – going on to conquer the Astrakhan Khanate and the move east into Siberia, setting the scene for the rapid expansion of the Russian Empire under Ivan's Romanov successors. In this gripping tale of Russian history, expert historian Mark Galeotti explores the major land and river offensive that saw Kazan fall to Ivan the Terrible's Army. With colourful battlescenes, detailed 2D maps and 3D diagrams, this book showcases how this siege marked the rise of Muscovy and ultimately helped lead to the Russian state today.
