Aristotle's Political Philosophy
Aristotle's Political Philosophy offers a concise and accessible overview of Aristotle's political thought in his Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, and Rhetoric. Aristotle's writings on politics are known for their legendary complexity and contradictions. In Aristotle's Political Philosophy, renowned scholar Mark Blitz draws connections between the Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, and Rhetoric to explain how these texts relate and interact with each other. Throughout the book, Blitz examines the foundations of political action, devoting special attention to Aristotle's understanding of virtue, justice, slavery, education, friendship, statesmanship, and speech. In doing so, Blitz clarifies the central ethical and political concepts presented throughout these works to articulate how these texts, together, advance a coherent political philosophy. After offering a comprehensive analysis of Aristotle's political thought, Blitz ultimately argues that Aristotelian philosophy remains fundamental for understanding modern political opinions, practices, and institutions.

Thy Will Be Done
How should we remember George Washington’s entanglement in slavery? Americans have argued over that question for nearly 250 years. More than any other Founding Father, Washington’s ties to slavery have vexed us. He enslaved more people than any of his fellow founders, yet he was the only one of them to emancipate the people he held in bondage. Since his death, Americans have grappled with this contradiction, shaping and reshaping our collective memory of Washington and slavery—along with our understanding of the nation. In Thy Will Be Done, historian John Garrison Marks tells the story of Americans’ long, fraught struggle to come to terms with Washington’s legacy of slavery. He traces how politicians, abolitionists, educators, activists, Washington’s former slaves and their descendants, and others have remembered, forgotten, and manipulated slavery’s place in Washington’s story, and how they have wielded versions of that story in the political and cultural fights of their time. Marks shows how generational struggles over our collective memory of Washington and slavery have always been part of a bigger conversation about defining the United States and its people. As debates about the founders’ participation in the system of slavery continue to roil public discourse, Marks shows with new clarity that Americans have never collectively reconciled Washington’s conflicted legacy. By truly grappling with Washington’s role as enslaver and emancipator we may come to better understand the nation and ourselves.

But there is one thing he is certain of.
He must escape.
The only way out of the labyrinth is through The Bone Door. But it lies behind a series of other locked doors hidden across an array of strange realms. To open the way, Hop must complete impossible tasks before his time runs out.

88,2 FM - Zrod legendy
Není to deník ani dějepisná knížka. Jsem pyšný, že jsem mohl být součástí porevolučního kvasu, stejně jako dění u zrodu legendy. Nechceme být striktně přesní, abychom nebyli nudní, spíš popsat tu dobu z našeho pohledu. Každý z nás si pamatuje něco jiného, nějak jinak, a dohromady to dává docela zajímavý plastický obrázek. Z mejdanu na mejdan, přepudrovat obličej, a mohlo se opět vyrazit. Byla to krásná doba, o které se má mluvit ze všech úhlů pohledu. My jsme to zkusili.“

Women's Liberation
As the populist right gains political legitimacy and the backlash against feminist movements grows, pay and health inequalities are worsening, and misogyny has taken on new insidious digital forms, gender equality is as contested and uncertain as it has ever been. How did we get here? And why, despite over a century of protest, has more progress not been mad? n this book, acclaimed historian Pat Thane offers a clear-eyed introduction to the key forces that have driven as well as limited the pursuit of gender equality in Britain over the last century. From the fight for enfranchisement to the election of Margaret Thatcher, the rise of New Labour and the impact of austerity, she reveals that gender inequalities have always intersected with inequalities of class, income, disability and ethnicity. With examples spanning education, employment, political representation, health and sexual violence, she explores how and why such profound inequalities have survived and pervaded every area of our lives. Women's Liberation addresses the fundamental question at the heart of this long fight for change: is gender inequality a mainstay of our social, economic and political fabric or is a more hopeful future possible? This lucid and accessible book is essential reading for anyone interested in understanding contemporary debates about gender in Britain, as well as twentieth-century social and political history.
Deepfake
Wanderer, washed-up writer and part-time philosopher of Athens’ nightlife, Michalis Krokos is more comfortable watching the Johnny Depp trial on livestream than getting down to his next book. But his apathetic state is shattered when prosecutor Sofia Charitsi shows up with some startling news. His long-lost friend Rebecca, a sharp-tongued trans sex worker, is in serious trouble. For some reason, a violent far-right group, ONET wants her silenced, and fast. To rescue her, Krokos agrees to go undercover as a fake news copywriter inside ONET’s inner circle. Write a few lies, steal a few secrets, take down a fascist or two. All in a day’s work, right? But what begins as a rescue mission spirals into a wild dive through backroom deals, blackmail, and political paranoia. Sofia is hiding her own complicated past with ONET’s megalomaniac leader, and Krokos ends up just trying to stay alive long enough to write something that might be worth publishing. Part literary noir, part darkly comic political thriller Deepfake explores truth, loyalty, and the absurd theatre of modern politics— set in the heart of a sweltering, sleepless Athens.
The Logic of Fantasy:
'Logic of the fantasy': the expression recurs throughout the Seminar as a leitmotif, yet not a single lesson is devoted to it; not even a briefly sustained development. Does this mean that the logic of the fantasy is here playing the role of some new-fangled mirage? No it doesn't, not if we can take on board how this logic is the very site at which Lacan's comments converge, which is what I have sought to indicate by entitling the final chapter 'The axiom of the fantasy'. It begins with him audaciously blending the mathematical Klein group and the Cartesian cogito, modified in such a way as to offer up the alternative, 'Either I am not, or I am not thinking'. On this basis, Lacan summarises the course of an analysis in four phases. A further mathematico-psychoanalytic blend: the sexual act is illuminated by the light of the Golden number. What ensues is that 'there is no sexual act', this being the first trace of what was to become a pons asinorum: 'there is no sexual relating'. The reader will also come across the invention of a 'value of jouissance', inspired by Marx, and will be surprised to see the big Other, the 'locus of speech', being newly defined as 'the body', the primordial locus of writing. A good many other gripping insights and constructions await this reader, if he is minded to follow the meandering, the stalling and the about-turns, along with advances and flashes of brilliance, an obstinate and profoundly honest thinking that, whenever it comes up against a stumbling block, never skirts around it but endeavours to turn it into a cornerstone.
