The Rules That Make Us: How Culture Shapes the Way We Act, Think, Believe and Buy
Oliver Sweet is one of the world's leading business anthropologists. He works with brands like Coke, Ikea, Google and Dyson, as well as local councils and national governments, to reveal the secrets behind our decision making.
Why do we do what we do? We might think it's our unique personality and individual differences that guide our choices, but more often than not, it's actually culture shaping our behaviour. From the ways we bring up children to the products we buy, the culture we live in creates who we are.
In The Rules That Make Us, business anthropologist Oliver Sweet reveals the secrets to successful people-watching and how we can better understand consumers, voters and our relationships.
His decades-long, trailblazing work uses cultural insights to help businesses, governments and NGOs achieve their goals - whether he's working with the Gates Foundation to encourage South African men to get HIV tests, helping a pet food company break into a new market in Brazil, or researching why 'nudge' techniques often backfire.
Drawing on research conducted in thirty-five countries, Sweet maps culture's hidden rules: how they govern our behaviour, create our assumptions, even how they help us predict the future. The Rules that Make Us gives us a model for thinking about culture that reveals a new way of understanding our families, colleagues, customers and ourselves.

Promise Me
He let him get away once… Now he has seven days to get him back. Fifteen years ago, Declan Barclay left for uni with plans of becoming an artist and escaping his family’s heavy rule. What he didn’t expect was to meet a soft and enigmatic actor in desperate need of guidance…and a friend.
Declan quickly took Colin Shelby under his wing and the two were inseparable ever since. That is until the night before graduation, when lines were crossed and everything changed. Now, after years apart, Colin is back in Declan’s life, but he’s not alone.
He’s made a promise to marry someone else, and Declan only has seven days to win back the love of his life. There’s just one problem: His family is counting on him to pull this wedding off at Barclay Manor. With just one week until vows are exchanged, Declan must decide—stay silent and lose Colin for good, or risk everything and ask the one who got away to promise him forever.

Přirozený talent rozvíjel důkladným řemeslným a uměleckým školením. Tyto úspěchy a ohlasy jej v roce 1989 přivedly k založení umělecké kovářské dílny a ateliéru v Náměšti nad Oslavou.
V současnosti přišlo do módy poutnictví.
Putujeme jí a vnímáme její kouzlo. Směřujeme k osvobození od každodenních starostí a problémů. A navíc jsme v té době „offline“, jsme nedostupní, zato jsme plně přítomni v daném okamžiku.

Lost in the Forest
'A message of hope' TLS'Inspiring' Spectator'A sumptuous mix of poetry, story and deep philosophical truths' FERGUS BUTLER-GALLIE'Colin Heber-Percy is a reliable guide' REV RICHARD COLESThis book is a hymn to getting lost. Drawing on his experience as a troubled schoolboy, a burnt-out screenwriter at the BBC, an 'awkward' priest in the Church of England, Colin Heber-Percy reflects on the value of not belonging... We all share a desire to belong. There's reassurance and safety in knowing who we are and where we fit in. But at significant moments in our lives - a new job, new school or an unexpected change of circumstances - or just in the ruts and routines of everyday life, we can experience a sense of not belonging, of dislocation, of being lost in a forest. But, there is another way to approach these uneasy moments. Rather than fearing the forest, Colin discovers great value and creativity there. Join parish priest Colin Heber-Percy in an invitation to get lost - to lose the labels society and institutions use to box us in - and to relish the liberation of losing our way in the world. Blending anecdotes from parish life, with philosophy, literature and tales from his local Savernake Forest, Colin argues that there is an overlooked richness, a spirituality and a freedom to be found outside the boundary lines our culture sets for us. Lost in the Forest is a gentle, funny, and life-affirming trail of crumbs through the woods...
