Tu dolu sú aj niektoré z Mitchových starých kníh: jeho staré skriptá z čias, keď študoval právo, knihy Josepha Conrada, príručky, ako riadiť jachtu. Chudáčik, tie svoje loďky skutočne miloval. Naozaj si o sebe myslel, že v hĺbke duše je námorníkom, hoci vždy, keď sa niekam vybrali na lodi, im niečo skapalo. Súčiastka v motore alebo niečo iné, nabetón, a Roz sa nikdy nedonútila hovoriť prova a kormidlo, ale vždy iba vpredu a vzadu. Vidí samu seba, ako stojí na jednej z tých lodí, musela to byť Rosalinda, tá prvá, čo pomenoval po nej, nos sa jej šúpe od slnka, na ramenách sa jej urobili pehy, na hlave má nabok narazenú Mitchovu šiltovku a máva na neho nejakým hasákom alebo francúzskym kľúčom: Je to tento, zlatko?, kým loď sa neodvratne blíži k skalnatému útesu - kde to bolo?
