Vyčítal mu týmovou metodu práce a poklonkování zlatému teleti. To, co mělo Dumasovi ublížit, se však obrátilo v jeho prospěch. Proti pamfletistovi se ohradili dokonce i Dumasovi literární protivníci a nadšeným čtenářům vůbec nevadilo, že jejich oblíbené romány vznikaly za přispění spolupracovníků.
