Výbor 14 povídek amerického romantického prozaika, básníka a esejisty E. A. Poea, považovaného za zakladatele moderní detektivky a hororu, kongeniálně doplňují kresby českého malíře a ilustrátora Aléna Diviše. V životě i tvorbě obou umělců najdeme mnohé paralely. Oba spojují dramatické životní osudy završené osamělou smrtí v hmotném nedostatku, oba měli zálibu v baladických příbězích s tajemnou atmosférou a také v jejich charakterech lze vystopovat shodné rysy.
