Terry Pratchett

Terry Pratchett sa narodil v Beaconsfielde v anglickom grófstve Bucks, Davidovi a Eileen Pratchettovcom. Svoje vzdelanie pripisuje High Wycombe Technical High School a Beaconsfieldskej verejnej knižnici.

čísle časopisu New Worlds v novembri 1965.
Po odchode zo školy v roku 1965 získal prácu v miestnych novinách Bucks Free Press a neskôr pôsobil v niekoľko ďalších regionálnych novinách v juhozápadnom Anglicku vrátane Western Daily Press a Bath Chronicle.
V tomto novinárskom období bol vyslaný urobiť interview s Petrom Bander van Durenom, jedným z riaditeľov malého vydavateľstva, kde práve vychádzala nová kniha. Počas rozhovoru sa zmienil, že sám napísal knihu The Carpet People.

To mu umožnilo zvýšiť tempo a v súčasnej dobe väčšinou napíše dve knihy ročne.

Pyramids

Look after the dead', said the priests, 'and the dead will look after you'. Wise words in all probability, but a tall order when you have just become the pharaoh of a small and penniless country whose largesse - and indeed treasury - is unlikely to stretch to the building of a monumental pyramid to honour your dead father. And particularly when your only visible means of support is a recently acquired qualification from the Guild of Assassins where running a kingdom and basic financial acumen were not prerequisites for course entry...

Mort

It is known as the Discworld. It is a flat planet, supported on the backs of four elephants, who in turn stand on the back of the great turtle A'Tuin as it swims majestically through space. And it is quite possibly the funniest place in all of creation...Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job. After being assured that being dead was not compulsory, Mort accepted. However, he soon found that romantic longings did not mix easily with the responsibilities of being Death's apprentice.

Turtle Recall

The Discworld, as everyone knows, is a flat world balanced on the backs of four elephants which, in turn, stand on the shell of the giant star turtle, the Great A'Tuin, as it slowly swims through space. It is also a global publishing phenomenon with sales of over 70 million books worldwide (but who's counting?). The publication of SNUFF brought the Discworld canon to 39 books - not including the various guides, mapps, diaries and other side-projects. That's a lot of Discworld to keep track of - more than most people can manage with just the one head - but fear not: help is at hand! If you're looking for the ultimate authority on probably the most heavily populated - certainly the most hilarious - setting in fantasy literature...If you need a handy guide to Discworld locales from Ankh-Morpork to Zemphis...If you want help telling Achmed the Mad from Jack Zweiblumen...If your life depends on being able to distinguish the Agatean Empire from the Zoons...look no further than THE COMPLETE DISCWORLD COMPANION - now fully updated and completely up to SNUFF!

Thief Of Time

The Discworld is very much like our own - if our own were to consist of a flat planet balanced on the back of four elephants which stand on the back of a giant turtle, that is... Time is a resource. Everyone knows it has to be managed. You mess with it at your peril. You can let it move fast or slowly but what you mustn't do is allow it to stop. The Monks of History have the glamorous job of time management in the Discworld. They store it and pump it from the places where it's wasted (like the underwater - how much time does a codfish need?) to places like cities, where there's never enough time. But with the construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time begins for History monk for Lu Tze and his suspiciously talented apprentice Lobsang Ludd. Because a truly accurate clock will stop time. And when time stands still, everything in human existence stops with it. Then, there really is no future.

Hogfather

The twentieth bestseller for the UK's fastest selling author. There are those who believe and those who don't. Through the ages, superstition has had its uses. Nowhere more so than in the Discworld where it's helped to maintain the status quo. Anything that undermines superstition has to be viewed with some caution. There may be consequences, particularly on the last night of the year when the time is turning. When those consequences turn out to be the end of the world, you need to be prepared. You might even want more standing between you and oblivion than a mere slip of a girl -- even if she has looked Death in the face on numerous occasions.

Interesting Times

A paperback edition with the original cover art of the classic fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett, the fifth book in the Wizards series, part of the Discworld novels. This is the worst thing you can wish on a citizen of Discworld. Especially for the magically challenged Rincewind, who has already had far too much excitement in his life. Unfortunately, the unlucky wizard always seems to end up in the middle of, well, absolutely everything. So, when a request for a 'Great Wizzard' arrives from the faraway Counterweight Continent, it's obviously Rincewind who's sent. For one thing, he's the only one who spells wizard that way. Once again Rincewind is thrown headfirst into a dangerous adventure. For the oldest empire on the Disc is in turmoil and Chaos is building. And, for some reason, someone believes Rincewind will have a vital role in the coming war . . . Interesting Times is the fifth book in the Wizards series, but you can read the Discworld novels in any order.

Maskerade

The Discworld is very much like our own - if our own were to consist of a flat planet balanced on the back of four elephants which stand on the back of a giant turtle, that is... What sort of person sits down and writes a maniacal laugh? And all those exclamation marks, you notice? Five? A sure sign of someone who wears his underpants on his head. Opera can do that to a man... It can also bring Death. And plenty of it. In unpleasant variations. This isn't real life - it's worse. This is the Opera House, Ankh-Morpork... a huge, rambling building where innocent young sopranos are being targeted by a strangely familiar evil mastermind in a mask and evening dress and with a penchant for lurking in shadows and occasional murder. But Granny Weatherwax, Discworld's most formidable witch, is in the audience. And she doesn't hold with that sort of thing. There's going to be trouble (but nevertheless a good evenin's entertainment with murders you can really hum to) and the show MUST go on.
