Matrionina chalupa je autobiografická novela o živote a smrti Matriony Zacharovovej. Kniha je napísaná podľa skutočných udalostí. Pravý názov dediny je Miľcevo, Vladimírska oblasť. Jej pôvodný názov znel Niet dediny bez spravodlivého, definitívny názov dal novele básnik A. T. Tvardovskij. Pri vydaní bol zmenený rok, v ktorom sa príbeh odohráva, a dej bol situovaný do predchruščovského obdobia. Autorovi sa vyčítalo, že obišiel skúsenosti prosperujúceho susedného kolchozu, na čele ktorého stál hrdina socialistickej práce. Prípad na stanici Kočetovka. Kočetovka je názov železničnej stanice, kde sa v roku 1941 opísaný príbeh skutočne odohral. Názov stanice bol v prvom vydaní novely zmeený na Krečetovka, všetky ostatné zemepisné názvy zostali nezmenené. Vo vyššom záujme. Novelu napísal autor na jar v roku 1963 podľa skutočnej udalosti, ktorá sa odohrala v Riazani. V tom čase sa práve začínali represívne zásaky tak proti časopisu Novyj mir, ako aj proti autorovi. Poviedka bola neskôr skrátená.
