Ultimate Toys for Men
From the Italian luxury sports car to the Swiss chronograph—the ultimate collection of the best, most exclusive, and most luxurious toys for men
With a special section on bespoke production
An opulent photo book that opens up a world full of luxury, pleasure, and aesthetic beauty to the reader
The perfect gift for all boys who have grown up,but preserved their inner child
There are only two notable differences between toys for little boys and toys for grown-up boys: the toys get bigger with age—and more expensive. Matchbox cars give way to high-end sports cars, model boats become motorboats and sailing yachts, and the plastic wristwatch turns into a Swiss chronograph with a perpetual calendar and minute repeater. The Toys for Men series has always stayed abreast of this male drive to play; in the latest volume, we present the ultimate wish list, a selection of the most exclusive, most innovative, and most luxurious toys that men with money can buy. Of course, the list includes the classic male fantasies of Lear jets, mega-
yachts, and super sports cars—the truly giant and great things that move men in the air, on water, or on land. But it also includes the little gadgets—from headphones and wristwatches to SLR cameras—that make tech-loving men’s hearts beat a little faster. We also include the vices that speak to connoisseurs, like that special bottle of French wine, Scottish whiskey, or Cuban cigars. And last but not least, we include one of the greatest luxuries of all: having a product tailored to you and you alone,
bespoke-style. But we’re not just talking about custom-
tailored suits. Cars, golf clubs, skis, nearly everything
today can be customized to suit your particular tastes. If you’re searching for the ultimate toys for the gentleman who has everything, you’ll hit pay dirt here. Because as philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche already knew, “There is a child hidden in every man: and it wants to play.”

Bring up the Bodies
The Man Booker-winning sequel to the Man Booker-winning Wolf Hall. 'My boy Thomas, give him a dirty look and he'll gouge your eye out. Trip him, and he'll cut off your leg,' says Walter Cromwell in the year 1500. 'But if you don't cut across him he's a very gentleman. And he'll stand anyone a drink.' By 1535 Thomas Cromwell, the blacksmith's son, is far from his humble origins. Chief Minister to Henry VIII, his fortunes have risen with those of Anne Boleyn, Henry's second wife, for whose sake Henry has broken with Rome and created his own church. But Henry's actions have forced England into dangerous isolation, and Anne has failed to do what she promised: bear a son to secure the Tudor line. When Henry visits Wolf Hall, Cromwell watches as Henry falls in love with the silent, plain Jane Seymour. The minister sees what is at stake: not just the king's pleasure, but the safety of the nation. As he eases a way through the sexual politics of the court, its miasma of gossip, he must negotiate a 'truth' that will satisfy Henry and secure his own career. But neither minister nor king will emerge undamaged from the bloody theatre of Anne's final days. In 'Bring up the Bodies', sequel to the Man Booker Prize-winning 'Wolf Hall', Hilary Mantel explores one of the most mystifying and frightening episodes in English history: the destruction of Anne Boleyn. This Man Booker-longlisted novel is a speaking picture, an audacious vision of Tudor England that sheds its light on the modern world. It is the work of one of our great writers at the height of her powers.

Around the World in Eighty Days & Five Weeks in a Balloon
Around the World in Eighty Days (1873) relates the hair-raising journey made as a wager by the Victorian gentleman Phileas Fogg, who succeeds - but only just! - in circling the globe within eighty days. The dour Fogg's obsession with his timetable is complemented by the dynamism and versatility of his French manservant, Passepartout, whose talent for getting into scrapes brings colour and suspense to the race against time. Five Weeks in a Balloon (1863) was Verne's first novel. It documents an apocryphal jaunt across the continent of Africa in a hydrogen balloon designed by the omniscient, imperturbable and ever capable Dr Fergusson, the prototype of the Vernian adventurer.

Great Expectations
From A to Z, the Penguin Drop Caps series collects 26 unique hardcovers--featuring cover art by type superstar Jessica Hische It all begins with a letter. Fall in love with Penguin Drop Caps, a new series of twenty-six collectible and gift-worthy hardcover editions, each with a type cover showcasing a gorgeously illustrated letter of the alphabet by superstar type designer Jessica Hische, whose work has appeared everywhere from Tiffany & Co. to Wes Anderson's film "Moonrise Kingdom" to Penguin's own bestsellers "Committed "and "Rules of Civility." A collaboration between Jessica Hische and Penguin Art Director Paul Buckley, the series design encompasses foil-stamped paper-over-board cases in a rainbow-hued spectrum across all twenty-six book spines and a decorative stain on all three paper edges. Penguin Drop Caps debuts with an "A" for Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," a "B" for Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre," and a "C" for Willa Cather's "My antonia," and continues with more classics from Penguin. D is for Dickens. The orphan Pip is destined to become a blacksmith like his brother-in-law Joe. But when Pip meets the beautiful Estella Havisham, he yearns for a gentleman's education in order to woo her. A mysterious legacy answers his ambition, and changes the course of his life, taking him far from the Marshes of youth--far, so he thinks, from his early terrifying encounter with an escaped convict, and his sister's class resentments. In this fictional autobiography, Pip's coming-of-age story becomes representative of the changing social landscape of nineteenth century England. As Pip's education provides upward social mobility, he must also learn hard lessons about self-delusion and forgiveness, love and loss, and the true nature of his "Great Expectations."

Arséne Lupin a nők lovagja
Aki örömét leli a klasszikus detektívtörténetekben, ezúttal sem fog csalódni.

Isaac Bashevis Singer : Collected Stories Vol. 1 (LOA 149)
Beginning with "Gimpel the Fool," the story that brought Isaac Bashevis Singer to prominence in America in the 1950s, this Library of America volume is the first of three gathering most of Singer's short fiction. These stories were published in English in the versions he called his "second originals," translations that he supervised and on which he himself often collaborated, revising his Yiddish texts as he worked. Born in 1904 into a family of rabbis, Singer grew up in a devout household in Warsaw's Jewish quarter, but he also spent time in the villages and market towns of eastern Poland, most notably Bilgoray, where he took refuge with his mother and brother during World War I. He had firsthand exposure to forms of Jewish folk culture that were destroyed by the Nazis, and many of his works testify to the richness of that annihilated world. In his stories set in Poland, Singer drew upon vernacular traditions for tales imbued with a wild, sometimes mischievous, often disturbing supernaturalism that was an outgrowth of local storytelling but containing dark undercurrents born of his own concerns and obsessions. At the same time, his skeptical but never dismissive engagement with religion and spirituality--and the opposing forces of secularism--enabled him to take part in the creative ferment of Jewish modernism but also distance himself from its politics and literary methods. In addition to "Gimpel the Fool," this volume--drawn from Singer's first four English-language collections of stories originally published in the 1950s and 1960s--contains some of Singer's most beloved tales: "The Spinoza of Market Street," "The Gentleman from Cracow," "Taibele and Her Demon," and "Yentl the Yeshiva Boy," the basis of a hit Broadway play and the film Yentl. LIBRARY OF AMERICA is an independent nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1979 to preserve our nation's literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, America's best and most significant writing. The Library of America series includes more than 300 volumes to date, authoritative editions that average 1,000 pages in length, feature cloth covers, sewn bindings, and ribbon markers, and are printed on premium acid-free paper that will last for centuries.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter (TV Tie-in)
Dexter Morgan isn't exactly the kind of man you'd bring home to your mum. At heart, he's the perfect gentleman: he has a shy girlfriend, and seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is an accomplished serial killer. So far, he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. And while that may lead some people to assume he's not such a nice guy, he tempers his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys. However, Dexter's well-organised life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Intrigued that the other killer favours a style similar to his own, Dexter soon realises that the mysterious new arrival is not simply invading his turf but offering him a direct invitation to 'come out and play'...

Wagstaff: Before and After Mapplethorpe: A Biography
Sam Wagstaff, the legendary curator, collector, and patron of the arts, emerges as a cultural visionary in this groundbreaking biography. Even today remembered primarily as the mentor and lover of Robert Mapplethorpe, the once infamous photographer, Wagstaff, in fact, had an incalculable-and largely overlooked-influence on the world of contemporary art and photography, and on the evolution of gay identity in the latter part of the twentieth century. Born in New York City in 1921 into a notable family, Wagstaff followed an arc that was typical of a young man of his class. He attended both Hotchkiss and Yale, served in the navy, and would follow in step with his Ivy League classmates to the "gentleman's profession," as an ad executive on Madison Avenue. With his unmistakably good looks, he projected an aura of glamour and was cited by newspapers as one of the most eligible bachelors of the late 1940s. Such accounts proved deceiving, for Wagstaff was forced to live in the closet, his homosexuality only revealed to a small circle of friends. Increasingly uncomfortable with his career and this double life, he abandoned advertising, turned to the formal study of art history, and embarked on a radical personal transformation that was in perfect harmony with the tumultuous social, cultural, and sexual upheavals of the 1960s. Accordingly, Wagstaff became a curator, in 1961, at Hartford's Wadsworth Atheneum, where he mounted both "Black, White, and Gray"-the first museum show of minimal art-and the sculptor Tony Smith's first museum show, while lending his early support to artists Andy Warhol, Ray Johnson, and Richard Tuttle, among many others. Later, as a curator at the Detroit Institute of Arts, he brought the avant-garde to a regional museum, offending its more staid trustees in the process. After returning to New York City in 1972, the fifty-year-old Wagstaff met the twenty-five-year-old Queens-born Robert Mapplethorpe, then living with Patti Smith. What at first appeared to be a sexual dalliance became their now historic lifelong romance, in which Mapplethorpe would foster Wagstaff's own burgeoning interest in contemporary photography and Wagstaff would help secure Mapplethorpe's reputation in the art world. In spite of their profound class differences, the artistic union between the philanthropically inclined Wagstaff and the prodigiously talented Mapplethorpe would rival that of Stieglitz and O'Keefe, or Rivera and Kahlo, in their ability to help reshape contemporary art history. Positioning Wagstaff's personal life against the rise of photography as a major art form and the simultaneous formation of the gay rights movement, Philip Gefter's absorbing biography provides a searing portrait of New York just before and during the age of AIDS. The result is a definitive and memorable portrait of a man and an era.

"Egy régi, megsárgult fénykép. Egy kedves, intim hangulat. A múltam egy fontos tanúja. Azé a múlté, ami bár nehezen indult, mégsem emlékeztem rá soha teherként. Már csak azért sem, mert rengeteg ajándékot kaptam tőle. Ez a múlt határozta meg az eddig megtett százezer lépést. Ez formálta az ízlésemet, adott erőt sok, néha logikátlannak látszó döntéshez, és tűzte ki az utat, amit meg kellett járnom. Sokan tradíciónak hívják ezt az utat. Én csak hűségnek. Mindahhoz, amit tanultam, amiben hiszek, és amit otthonról hozok magammal.
A képen nagyapámmal, dr.
Movies of the 50s
At a time when people were terrified of UFOs and Communism, the movie industry was busy producing movies that ranged from film noir to suspense to grandiose musicals&894 apparently the paranoid public in the 1950s craved family entertainment and dark, brooding pictures in equal doses. The result is a decade’s worth of truly monumental cinema, from Hitchcock masterpieces (Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window) to comedy classics (Tati’s Mr. Hulot’s Holiday, Billy Wilder’s Some Like it Hot) to groundbreaking nouvelle vague films (Godard’s Breathless, Truffaut’s The Four Hundred Blows) and profound, innovative dramas such as Antonioni’s L’Avventura, Fellini’s La Strada, John Huston’s Misfits, and Kubrick’s Paths of Glory. Though censorship kept sex safely off-screen, sexy stars such as James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Marilyn Monroe provided plenty of heat in Rebel Without a Cause, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes respectively. This survey of the most important films of the 1950s covers all the wholesome, subversive, artistic, thrilling, and mysterious trends in cinema worldwide.

Original Man: The Tautz Compendium of Less Ordinary Gentlemen
Celebrating style, individuality, and joie de vivre, this book showcases 80 original men who will inspire readers to lead a less ordinary life. Original Man is a compendium of the stories of extraordinary men. From household names including Andy Warhol, Freddie Mercury, and Yves Saint-Laurent to lesser-known personalities, the 80 men presented here are incredibly diverse, yet all share entirely original lives. Featuring famous hell-raisers such as Iggy Pop, indomitable explorers including Ernest Shackleton, visionaries like Federico Fellini, and some less mainstream personalities such as Quentin Crisp or Takeshi Kitano, these biographies are as gripping as any fiction. This book is the brainchild of UK men's fashion maven Patrick Grant. As set about re-awakening the traditional Saile Row tailoring house of E. Tautz after a thirty-year slumber, he wanted to define the kind of man he aspired to clothe. Original Man is the compelling result of his musings--a collection of portraits of men who go beyond a veneer of stylish attire to wring every last drop out of life with their actions, thoughs, or words in a manner scarcely seen nowadays. These are not the biographies of those the world considers to be the best writers, thinkers, or adventurers (though undoubtedly some arguably are). Rather, this book celebrates those that have lived lives that are genuinely different. Whether in the life of a stylist, a libertine, an artist, or a hero, originality and historical precedence trumps prowess; the manner of their endeavors is what counts, not the end result. Reflecting Grant's personal background and experiences approximately half of the book's notable men come from the UK, a quarter from the US, and most of the remainder from Western Europe. Explaining his strong British bias, Grant states "we seem to breed original characters (or celebrate them more vocally) at a rate which belies our relatively small population." Because a claim to inclusion requires sustained effort, not just a brief burst of activity, few of the men featured in Original Man are young. Some, such as Malcolm X and Ayrton Senna, died young, but had a lasting impact. The book also contains a few men well known for their hedonistic lifestyles such as Ozzy Osbourne and Oliver Reed, but it does not celebrate those who simply fritter their lives away at play unless it is done with the greatest sense of style. Often their tales are rather sad ones, like that of snooker player Alex Higgins, and are included in the hope that they are as precautionary as they are laudatory. Aware that there do not seem to be many equivalents to these stories today, Grant wishes to share these portraits to inspire readers--men and women alike--to try to live more interesting and original lives themselves.
