Paris and Her Cathedrals
For history readers, travelers, and scholars alike, an indispensable behind-the-scenes guide to the great cathedrals of Paris.
“So infectious is R. Howard Bloch’s passion for his subject that even those unable to do the traveling required will find in Paris and Her Cathedrals an inspiring guide to these time-hallowed masterpieces of medieval culture.” ?Colin Jones, author of Paris and The Great Nation
Over the years, R. Howard Bloch has become renowned for the insider tours of Paris that he gives to students abroad. Long sought after by travelers and history buffs for his near-encyclopedic knowledge of French cathedrals, the eminent French literature scholar finally shares his expertise with a wider audience.
In Paris and Her Cathedrals, six of the most sublime cathedrals in the penumbra of Paris?Saint-Denis, Notre-Dame, Chartres, Sainte-Chapelle, Amiens, Reims?are illumined in magnificent detail as Bloch, taking us from the High Middle Ages to the devastating fire that set Notre-Dame ablaze in 2019, traces the evolution of each in turn. Written from the premise that “seeing is enhanced by knowing,” each chapter is organized along the lines of a walk around and then through the space of the cathedral, such that the actual or virtual visitor feels the rich sweep of the church, “the essence of these architectural wonders” (Antonia Felix).
Animating the past with lush evocations of architectural splendor?from flying buttresses and jewel-encrusted shrines to hidden burial grounds and secret chambers?Bloch then contextualizes the cathedrals within the annals of French history. Here thrilling tales of kingly intrigue?as in Saint-Chapelle, where the pious King Louis IX amassed relics, including Christ’s crown of thorns?and audacious abbots are interspersed with anecdotes about the meeting of aristocratic and everyday life, culminating in “a rich, colorful narrative that clearly but expertly explains the history and symbolism of some of the world’s most magnificent buildings” (Ross King).
To be read in preparation for an enlightened visit or merely to open a window upon the High Middle Ages in France, Paris and Her Cathedrals is a “revelation,” an “indispensable guide” (Garry Wills) to these awe-inspiring structures. Complete with the author’s own photographs, this beautifully illustrated volume vitally enhances our understanding of the history of Paris and its environs. 96 photographs and two maps

Sokkal inkább - összhangban azzal, ahogyan Esterházy maga is elhatárolódik alkotóművészetet merev kategorizálásától - olyan értelmezési módozatokat kínál, amelyeken keresztül az írói munkásság annak árnyaltságában, rétegzettségében tárulhat elénk.
- Ezek a nők! Örömükben el-eltörik a mécses. Hát igen: napfény, patak, a sok kedves háziállat. Nagy a kísértés.
- A természet öle - dörmögtem.

A young woman's future is torn away in a heartbeat. Herded on to a train bound for Auschwitz, in an act of desperation she entrusts her most precious possession to a stranger. All she has left now is hope.

Jean-Luc thought he had left it all behind. The scar on his face a small price to pay for surviving the horrors of Nazi Occupation. Now, he has a new life in California, a family. He never expected the past to come knocking on his door.
On a darkened platform, two destinies become entangled. Their choice will change the future in ways neither could have imagined...
Beautiful. Powerful. Luminous. Unforgettable. A stunning portrait of the brutality of war and the tenacity of love. In the tradition of Virginia Baily's Early One Morning, M. L. Stedman's The Light Between Oceans and Heather Morris's The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

A Brief History of Paris
Paris: city of love, food and fashion.
Paris: the city that played host to major historical and cultural dramas.
Paris: a modern metropolis.
Paris is all of these, all at once, all the time.
There is a unique fusion of past and present in this purposefully grand and well-planned city. The Triumphal Way, which runs straight from the Louvre through the Tuileries Gardens, across the Place de la Concorde - where the guillotine once stood - through the Arc de Triomphe towards the Arche de la Defense and into the modern business district is just one example of the many eras that remain present.
Famously a city for walkers, Paris has echoes of its history at every turn. Wandering through Montmartre, you will discover the birthplace of the energetic cancan at the Moulin Rouge; stroll around Montparnasse and see the haunts of American writer Ernest Hemingway; observe the striking new Opera de la Bastille, which stands in the same place as the notorious prison.
To walk in Paris is to walk in history.
Cecil Jenkins recounts the often turbulent history with due attention to social conditions and cultural development as well as to the political events that shaped the city. It is the colourful story of a city emerging to modernity through repeated conflicts, both internal and regional: a struggle between piety and passion, prince and peasant, against competing countries in Europe.
A rémisztő titka ellenére is.
Albert Arnaud előállt a tökéletes tervvel. Nem fogja újból elkövetni a régi hibákat. A szavát adta. Még egyszer végigmérte a plakátot. Igen, a nő itt lesz, ezen a helyen csütörtökön hét órakor.
Letters from M/M (Paris)
A fabulous typographic exploration of the letter forms and typography of one of Europe’s leading design studios.
Letters from M/M (Paris) is a comprehensive study of the typefaces produced by Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak since they founded their influential art and design practice, M/M (Paris).
For the first time, ninety of the designers’ typefaces are catalogued chronologically in a three-part volume, comprising the history of their development; exclusive type specimens; and detailed illustrations of projects in which they appear.
With a foreword by Björk?whose collaboration with M/M spans over two decades?this encyclopaedic volume traces the distinctive and integral nature of type, lettering, and signs in the work of M/M, from one-off artistic commissions to fashion branding and their long-lasting collaborations with musicians and theatres.
This complete typographic collection is the perfect companion to the two-volume monograph M to M of M/M (Paris), and will appeal not only to graphic designers, historians, and students, but to anyone interested in art and visual culture.

Négy Tour de France pontverseny és három, ráadásul egymás utáni országúti VB győzelmének, a 2018-as Párizs-Roubaix győzelmének és a klasszikus egynapos versenyeken elért további remek eredményeinek köszönhetően máris generációja egyik legkiemelkedőbb kerékpárosának tartják. És nem feltétlenül csak az eredmények miatt... Sagan a kerékpársport egyik legeredetibb figurája, igazi showman, aki elengedett kézzel egykerekezik a Mont Ventoux lejtőin, és mókásan teszi helyre az újságírókat, ha közhelyes kérdésekkel bombázzák. "Why So Serious?" - üzeni Sagan Jokerre emlékeztető önarcképe a törzsén viselt tetoválásán.

Neměla to dělat, vážně neměla. Aby si zkrátila cestu, vydala se Cass autem domů po neosvětlené, křivolaké a opuštěné cestě lesem. Venku navíc zuřila bouřka a ona v tom psím počasí uviděla na kraji cesty auto, v němž seděla jakási žena. Zastavila kousek před ní a počkala, jestli nevystoupí, aby si řekla o pomoc.

Veneťanská vláda hledá v novém uspořádání mocností ochranu u jednoho z členů Paktu, Tzenkethské koalice, a přitom souhlasila s poskytnutím tří zásobovacích základen k dispozici Tzenkethům. Ovšem tyto základny by v případě vyzbrojení byly nepřijatelně blízko k hranicím federačního, cardassijského a ferengského prostoru.

Február 4-én önszántamból bevonultam a pszichiátriára.
(a Szerző)

A regény minden egyes szava igaz.
