Gauguin Atlas
Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) was an artist perpetually in search of new horizons. This fascinating visual tour reveals the full extent of Gauguin's travels and their influence on his unique style. Gauguin's several lengthy trips to Tahiti and the Marquesas between 1891 and the artist's death, visits that provided the inspiration for many of his most famous canvases, are well known and documented here in rich detail. Less familiar are stories from his early years living with his family in Peru, which Gauguin would later describe as "idyllic," and his years in the French Navy, which would take him to numerous destinations including India. Throughout the 1880s, as a young man starting a family and struggling to become established within the art world, the restless Gauguin moved often-within Paris, to Rouen, to Copenhagen, and back to Paris.
Abundantly illustrated with hundreds of vibrant images, including archival material and the artist's own works, The Gauguin Atlas brings to life the places that Gauguin visited and lived. The book's handsome design seamlessly integrates maps and other images with an accessible and engaging text that narrates Gauguin's travels; what emerges is a vivid picture of an artist continually seeking new experience and inspiration for his art.

Speaking with Angels
The contributors' list of this collection of freshly penned literary monologues, published to help The Treehouse Trust, a charity for autistic children, reads like a Who's Who of the richest, hippest authors in the UK--with a healthy smattering of ta

Interiors
The development of the domestic interior is a history of consumption and taste. In "Interiors: The Home Since 1700", for the first time, this story is set against the cultural and industrial changes taking place in the western world since the seventeenth century. Unlike almost all previous histories, this book does not deal exclusively with the grand houses of the aristocracy: Steven Parissienas masterly text concentrates rather on the homes of the merchants and middle classes, who have been the first to take advantage of new technologies to furnish and decorate their homes.Fully illustrated with contemporary plates from catalogues and books, as well as paintings and photography, this beautiful book traces a constantly absorbing and often surprising story as it took place all over Western Europe and North America. It is ideal for all students of and enthusiasts for the domestic interior and period settings. Steven Parissienas strong narrative explains not simply what happened, but why.

OWC Sons and Lovers
Lawrence's first major novel was also the first in the English language to explore ordinary working-class life from the inside. No writer before or since has written so well about the intimacies enforced by a tightly-knit mining community and by a fa
mily where feelings are never hidden for long. When the marriage between Walter Morel and his sensitive, high-minded wife begins to break down, the bitterness of their frustration seeps into their children's lives. Their second son, Paul, craves the
warmth of family and community, but knows that he must sacrifice everything in the struggle for independence if he is not to repeat his parents' failure. Lawrence's powerful description of Paul's single-minded efforts to define himself sexually and e
motionally through relationships with two women - the innocent, old-fashioned Miriam Leivers and the experienced, provocatively modern Clara Dawes - makes this a novel as much for the beginning of the twenty-first century as it was for the beginning
of the twentieth.

SS New History
The SS is the most historically important institution of Third Reich Germany yet it remains amongst the least well understood. The SS was at the forefront of implementing the most radical and terrible policies of Nazi Germany: the Jewish Holocaust and mass resettlement of Russia and eastern Europe, the enslavement of the working population of the whole of occupied Europe. Yet at the same time members of the SS were subverting Nazi racial and foreign policy, associating with the Nazi resistance and even attempting to seek a separate peace with the western allies in direct defiance of Hitler's orders. This thought-provoking new book argues that as the ideological 'engine room' of National Socialism, a study of the SS is the best way of gaining insight into how Nazism would have evolved if Germany had not lost the war. Packed full of the exceptional detail that comes from careful new research, this book will be the book to buy on the SS for a generation.
