In this unique illustrated guide, Meg-John Barker and Jules Scheele travel through our shifting understandings of gender across time and space - from ideas about masculinity and femininity, to non-binary and trans genders, to intersecting experiences of gender, race, sexuality, class, disability and more.
Tackling current debates and tensions, which can divide communities and even cost lives, Barker and Scheele look to the past and the future to explore how we might all approach gender in more caring and celebratory ways.

Süddeutsche ZeitungLeseprobe:1 Rongai, den 4. Februar 1938Meine liebe Jettel!

Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams
This is Dieter Rams’s 808-page book about his work, back in print in its original form with a PVC softcover and slipcase. The relevance of famous Braun designer Dieter Rams in modern design remains unbroken.
In his more than 40 years at Braun, Rams established himself as one of the most influential designers of the twentieth century. True to the principle of “less but better” his elegantly clear visual language not only defined product design for generations, but also our fundamental understanding of what design is and what it can and should do. Less and More offers boundless inspiration for anyone interested in the aesthetic and functional aspects of applied design.
Jahrhunderts etabliert.
Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams dokumentiert sein Schaffen.

We Need to Talk About Love
As featured on Sunday Brunch and Woman's Hour'A really interesting proper analysis of the ins and outs of love. A kind of marvellous feat.' Richard CurtisPoets, philosophers and artists have been trying to explain romantic love for centuries, but it remains one of the most complex and intimidating terrains to navigate. Most people are afraid to be open and honest about their relationships - until now.
For We Need to Talk Above Love, Laura Mucha has interviewed hundreds of strangers, from the ages of 8 to 95 in more than 40 countries, asking them to share their most personal stories, feelings and insights about love. These intimate and illuminating conversations raised important questions, such as:- How does your upbringing influence your relationships?- Does love at first sight exist? Should you 'just know'?- What should you look for in a partner?- Is monogamy natural?- Why do people cheat?- How do you know when it's time to walk away?Drawing on psychology, philosophy, anthropology and statistics, We Need to Talk About Love combines evidence, theory and everyday experience and is the perfect read for anyone who is curious about how we think, feel and behave when it comes to love.
The Aztecs
Five hundred years ago, the landing of Hernan Cortes in Mexico marked the end of the Aztec Empire. This volume presents the wealth of this culture with spectacular, sometimes unpublished finds: rare feathered shields, impressive stone sculptures, precious mosaic masks and goldwork as well as brilliantly coloured illustrated manuscripts bring the world of the Aztecs to life.
The publication provides comprehensive insight into the fascinating history of the Aztec Empire and takes into account the latest results of research and archaeology. Renowned experts tell of the political, societal and economic structures, of cultural achievements such as the complex calendar system and the Aztec language, and of religious rites. Precious objects from the magnificent furnishings of the palace of Emperor Moctezuma and the main temple Templo Mayor, including recently discovered sacrificial offerings that have never previously been exhibited, bear witness to the high standards of Aztec art and craftsmanship.

Stephen Hawking: A Memoir of Friendship and Physics
An icon of the last fifty years, Stephen Hawking seems to encapsulate genius: not since Albert Einstein has a scientific figure held such a position in popular consciousness. In this enthralling memoir, writer and physicist Leonard Mlodinow tells the story of his friend and their friendship, offering an intimate account of this giant of science.
The two met in 2003, when Stephen asked Leonard if he would consider writing a book with him, the follow up to the bestselling A Brief History of Time. As they spent years working on a second book, The Grand Design, they forged a deep connection and Leonard gained a much better understanding of Stephen's daily life and struggles - as well as his compassion and good humour. Together they obsessed over the perfect sentence, debated the physics, and occasionally punted on Cambridge's waterways with champagne and strawberries. In time, Leonard was able to finish Stephen's jokes, chide his sporadic mischief, and learn how the hardships of his illness helped forge that unique perspective on the universe.
By weaving together their shared story with a clear-sighted portrayal of Hawking's scientific achievements, Mlodinow creates a beautiful portrait of Stephen Hawking as a brilliant, impish and generous man whose life was not only exceptional but also genuinely inspiring.
The Death and Life of Great American Cities
In this classic text, Jane Jacobs set out to produce an attack on current city planning and rebuilding and to introduce new principles by which these should be governed. The result is one of the most stimulating books on cities ever written.
Throughout the post-war period, planners temperamentally unsympathetic to cities have been let loose on our urban environment. Inspired by the ideals of the Garden City or Le Corbusier's Radiant City, they have dreamt up ambitious projects based on self-contained neighbourhoods, super-blocks, rigid 'scientific' plans and endless acres of grass. Yet they seldom stop to look at what actually works on the ground.
The real vitality of cities, argues Jacobs, lies in their diversity, architectural variety, teeming street life and human scale. It is only when we appreciate such fundamental realities that we can hope to create cities that are safe, interesting and economically viable, as well as places that people want to live in.
Death in the Making
Death in the Making will be a reprint of the original book published in 1938. With images by Robert Capa and Gerda Taro, it was a poignant tribute to the men and women, civilians and soldiers alike, who were fighting in Spain against Franco's oppressive and fascist insurrection. The book included only one year of images, but covered the spectrum of emotions of a civil war, from the initial excitement to the more harrowing realities of modern warfare. After World War II and the rising fear of Communism in the United States made association with the Spanish Civil War a liability, the book was forgotten. Today Death in the Making is newly appreciated for its call to arms against rising fascist threat. This new publication will replicate the original layout by photographer Andre Kertesz, the original caption text by Capa and preface by writer Jay Allen, but will also dramatically improve the image quality of the first edition. The new edition will also include an essay with new information about the making and the reception of the original book and a complete checklist identifying the author, location and date of each image. One of the most significant revelations is that Death in the Making contained unattributed photographs by Chim, later known as David Seymour, friend and colleague of Capa. The book is a co-publication with the International Center of Photography.

Picasso
The name which predominates in the development of art throughout the twentieth century, and to which many of the revolutionary changes are ascribed, is that of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). Not only was he one of the most influential artists, he was also one of the most versatile. This beautifully produced book surveys the whole range of his paintings, from the haunting works of the Blue Period, to the brute power of Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, the lyrical sweetness of his family portraits, the revolutionary developments of Cubism and the later manifold experimentations with form and colour.
Roland Penrose's introductory essay on Picasso was first published in 1971, when the great master was still alive. Penrose was acclaimed in his own right as a painter, and his long friendship with Picasso gave him unique insight into his life and work. David Lomas has written a preface introducing us to the friendship between these two artists.
He has also written notes to each full-page colour plate, discussing the picture in detail, making this a perfect introduction to the twentieth century's most famous artist.
