The Power of Art
To read most histories of art, you might be forgiven for supposing that great artists are superhuman, and the knowledge of different movements, periods and styles is essential to truly appreciate art.
It's time to look at art in a new way.
THE POWER OF ART delves into the stories behind remarkable acts of creation in fifteen global cities at pivotal moments of artistic brilliance. It shows how art is an integral part of our daily lives, embedded in the very fabric of our existence. From the enduring wonders of ancient Babylon to the menacing pastel architecture of contemporary Pyongyang, eminent curator Caroline Campbell intertwines the stories of artists with the broader social, cultural and political landscapes of their time.
In each vivid episode, Campbell reveals how art, in all its forms, is a testament to humanity's inventiveness and ingenuity: it has served our fundamental needs for shelter, sustenance, spirituality, pleasure, order and community. But it can also evoke envy, anger, greed, and even be used as a means of social control.
Spanning thousands of years of creativity, THE POWER OF ART will ignite your imagination and open your eyes to the art that surrounds us, whether it be a painting in a gallery, a public sculpture or an everyday object with hidden beauty.
Hanzlíčkovy občanské a vlastenecké postoje formovalo skautské a sokolské mládí prožité v severočeském pohraničí stejně jako vojenská služba u elitní zbraně čs. armády.

Picasso: Seven Decades of Drawing
Picasso: Seven Decades of Drawing surveys Pablo Picasso's prodigious career as a draftsman, including over 40 examples on loan from private collections spanning nearly 70 years of the artist's long and cele-brated career. The book showcases drawings in a wide range of media, from works in charcoal and crayon to coloured pencil, collage or papiers colles, graphite, gouache, ink, pastel, and watercolour. Some of the drawings on loan are rarely on view and they provide insight into the evolution of his iconic paintings, such as Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and Guernica, while others stand alone as virtuoso, independent works, highlighting Picasso's mastery of line, form, and medium. The book ultimately examines how drawing serves as the vital thread connecting all of Picasso's art.

The Lady Di Look Book
Fashion writer Eloise Moran has studied thousands of pictures of Princess Diana over the past few years. Looking carefully at Diana's clothes, she discovered that behind each outfit lies a carefully crafted strategy. What Lady Di couldn't express verbally, she seemed to express through her clothes.
With The Lady Di Look Book Eloise Moran takes us on a photographic journey celebrating Princess Diana's fashion choices over the years. From the pink gingham pants and pastel-yellow overalls of a sacrificial lamb - to the sexy Versace mini dresses, power suits, and cycling shorts of a free woman; this is an interpretation of Diana's most show stopping eighties and early nineties outfits and of course, her most fearless post-divorce revenge looks. Whether it's '80s cottagecore Diana, androgynous bow-tie Diana, little black dress Diana, or athleisure Diana - there is a look for everyone.
Full of wit and humour, The Lady Di Look Book illuminates what a bold, and inspiring fashion icon Diana really was and shows that there's a bit of Diana in all of us.

Real Self-Care
Full of authenticity and compassion, Real Self-Care is a hands-on guide to true wellbeing for fans of Brené Brown and Elizabeth Gilbert.
Self-care has become a staple in women's lives. From juice cleanses to yoga workshops to luxury bamboo sheets, we are sold breezy fixes in pastel-coloured packages, and then made to feel at fault when they don't work, like there is something wrong with us. But we are not broken: the game is rigged against us. And if we set aside those activities that don't serve us, we can all reconnect with ourselves and become agents of change in our lives.
In Real Self-Care, psychiatrist and women's mental health specialist Dr Pooja Lakshmin will help you understand what a real and sustainable practice of caring for yourself looks like. Using case studies, clinical research and actionable strategies to deal with common problems, this book will help you set boundaries and move past guilt, treat yourself with compassion, live a life aligned with your values and assert your power. The result - having ownership over your life - is nothing less than a personal and social revolution.
Because real self-care is not a noun - it's a verb. And while it may not be as easy as buying that crystal-infused water bottle, the rewards are infinite.

Georgia O'Keeffe: To See Takes Time
A revelatory new volume on the American modernist's lesser-known works on paper, reuniting many serial works for the first time
Recalling a charcoal she made in 1916, Georgia O'Keeffe later wrote, "I have made this drawing several times--never remembering that I had made it before--and not knowing where the idea came from." These drawings, and the majority of O'Keeffe's works in charcoal, watercolor, pastel and graphite, belong to series in which she develops and transforms motifs that lie between observation and abstraction. In the formative years of 1915 to 1918, she made as many works on paper as she would in the next 40 years, producing sequences in watercolor of abstract lines, organic landscapes and nudes, along with charcoal drawings she would group according to the designation "specials." While her practice turned increasingly toward canvas in subsequent decades, important series on paper reappeared--including charcoal flowers of the 1930s, portraits of the 1940s and aerial views of the 1950s.
Published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, this richly illustrated volume highlights the drawings of an artist better known as a painter, and reunites individual sheets with their contextual series to illuminate O'Keeffe's persistently sequential practice.
Born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986) first received critical attention when her breakthrough charcoal drawings were exhibited in New York in 1916. Two years later, she moved to the city to work full time on her art. Beginning in 1929, O'Keeffe spent summers in New Mexico, where she would relocate in 1949. The most famous female artist of her age, she thought of herself not as "the best woman painter" but as "one of the best painters."

Mole digs and digs, dreaming of finding something colourful, but day after day, he is disappointed. One day, Mole finds a radish poking through the top of his tunnel like a chandelier. They start chatting, and as Mole listens to the descriptions of life above ground, he imagines bright clothes, red roofs, vibrant green trees, pastel flowers and the blush of the sun as it sinks through the sky. The next morning, Mole is distraught to discover that his chandelier is gone, leaving a hole in its place. He crawls out of the hole and into the world above - and into a place more colourful than he ever dreamed possible.
Printed in vivid pantones and with an inventive die-cut hole in the cover, Mole in a Black and White Hole tells a charming tale about what awaits us when we seek out the light in the darkness.

Edvard Munch
A revised edition of the most comprehensive monograph on Munch
Though The Scream is undoubtedly his best-known piece, Edvard Munch's body of work extends far beyond this silent howl to encompass a wide practice across paint, pastel and print. The joint effort of ten scholars, and first published in 2013 to great acclaim, this volume offers a comprehensive survey of Munch's inimitable contributions to modern art. The publication covers many aspects of Munch's versatile artistic practice, with a focus on specific themes and phenomena that characterize his work. The texts offer a fresh look at Munch's oeuvre in the context of modernism, highlighting the issues that the artist grappled with throughout his career: the relationship between art and reality, the artist and the public, and Munch's misgivings about modernism and his place in the world. With a thorough bibliography, a timeline of the artist's life, and excerpts of Munch's own writing, this monograph proves to be a most comprehensive tribute to the artist. Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was born in rural Norway before his parents moved to Oslo (then called Kristiana). He grew up under the influence of frequent family illness, both mental and physical, and would later use his art as a means of expressing his turbulent psychological state. He studied at the Royal School of Art and Design in Oslo and spent time in Paris and Berlin. Most of his work managed to survive the Nazi purges of "degenerate art."

Flush
Flush was an English cocker spaniel who belonged to the nineteenth-century poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Virginia Woolf learned of him from the love letters Elizabeth wrote to her future husband, fellow poet Robert Browning, and found `the figure of their dog made me laugh so, I couldn't resist making him a Life.' The resulting `biography' combines sensuous imaginative description with sharp social comment, and brings Woolf's unsentimental humour and insight to the fore. We see Flush as loyal confidant to Elizabeth on her sickbed at Wimpole Street, and from his jealous perspective we witness her courtship by Browning, their elopement and new life in Italy.
The perfect accessible introduction to Woolf's genius, a unique blend of fact and fiction, Flush is perhaps best read in the company of a canine companion. This edition includes the four original illustrations by Vanessa Bell and an afterword by Margaret Forster. Cover designed by the award-winning Finnish designer Aino-Maija Metsola
