Z oněch 23 nepřeložených básní některé nebyly ruskými editory průkazně rekonstruovány, u dalších byla důvodem nezařazení jejich nepřesaditelnost do českého jazykového i kulturního prostředí. Všechny překlady byly pořízeny z prvních verzí básní, a to s ohledem na skutečnost, že autorovy pozdější úpravy nejsou vždy dobře doložené. Zachovány zůstaly i všechny gramatické zvláštnosti a odchylky.
Charmsova poezie je v pravém slova smyslu nonkonformní, nepodbízející se, často groteskní, ironická, sarkastická.
