Attól a naptól kezdve Dzsongmin többé nem hagyta el a házat. Akkor még egy teljes évszak sem telt el azóta, hogy a Gesztenyesor városrészbe költözött.
Baumgartner
Najnovšia a posledná kniha Paula Austera vyšla v USA v novembri 2023, pol roka pred jeho smrťou (Paul Auster zomrel v apríli 2024 na komplikácie súvisiace s rakovinou pľúc). V knihe sa starnúci profesor Baumgartner snaží vyrovnať so smrťou svojej manželky Anny, ktorú veľmi miloval a považoval ju za „svoju polovicu, bez ktorej sa teraz musí naučiť žiť“ a so svojou vlastnou smrteľnosťou. Paul Auster sa na rozdiel od Baumgartnera so smrťou milovanej ženy vyrovnávať nemusel, v reálnom živote to dopadlo naopak. Jeho manželka, spisovateľka Siri Hustvedt, ktorej v decembri 2022 tiež diagnostikovali rakovinu, ho nakoniec prežila.
V jednom z jeho posledných rozhovorov v živote pre The Guardian hovorí: „Stále si neviem vysvetliť, kde sa táto kniha vlastne vzala. Ten chlapík (Baumgartner) vo mne rástol a postupne som mu čoraz viac rozumel.“ Z rozhovoru vyplýva, že spisovateľ tušil, že táto kniha môže byť jeho poslednou.
Príbeh starnúceho a roztržitého profesora Baumgartnera sa točí okolo vyrovnávania sa so stratou, zároveň ale s jemným humorom rieši momentky, ktoré sú univerzálne a zároveň veľmi osobné. Seymour, skrátene Sy, sa pokúša naučiť žiť bez svojej Anny, no jeho túžba po jej prítomnosti ho prirodzene vedie k spomienkam a epizódam z ich spoločného života. Ocitáme sa v roku 1968, keď sa Sy a Anna zoznámili v New Yorku ako chudobní študenti, sme svedkami ich vášnivého vzťahu počas nasledujúcich štyroch dekád, oblúkom sa vraciame k Baumgartnerovej mladosti v Newarku či k osudom jeho otca poľského pôvodu, ktorý bol krajčírom a neúspešným revolucionárom.
Citlivý, jemný, humorný a pôvabný román je peknou bodkou za tvorbou Paula Austera. Zároveň sa táto bodka môže zmeniť na bod východiskový, vďaka ktorému jeho tvorbu objavia ďalší čitatelia a čitateľky.

Békés olvasgatásról azonban szó sem lehet. „A szálakat szövik a párkák.” Egy legenda életre kel, egy próféta színre lép, apokaliptikus lovas vágtat a zúgó kelta erdőben, és ha még mindez nem volna elég, egy elfajult vagyonosodási harc miatt orgyilkosok veszélyeztetik az earlt és örököseit… A Pendragon legenda Szerb Antal talán legnépszerűbb műve, és nem véletlenül. Ő maga filológiai detektívregénynek nevezte, de valójában nehezen behatárolható műfajú, hiszen egy páratlan stílusú intellektuális kaland misztikummal, filozófiával, szerelemmel, nyomozással, csillogó humorral. Egyszerre nyújt könnyed kikapcsolódást, ajándékoz meg mély gondolatokkal, miközben feltárja a 17. századi angol misztikusok világát: az alkímiától kezdve a fekete mágiáig. Kihagyhatatlan remekmű.
