Me and Mine

A novel about family, scarcity, and what it means to sell out as the world ends. The world hasn’t quite ended, but it’s getting there. Me and Mine imagines a not-so-distant future on the pre-apocalyptic shores of Lake Michigan. The West has dried up, the watershed has been contaminated, and water scarcity has driven most of the population inward from the coasts. Here, real estate interests run rampant and the possibility of snagging a house close enough to the Great Lakes to get fresh water has realigned global financial interests. And, as always, the working class is being pushed aside to make way for white and wealthy newcomers. Amidst the chaos, three brothers try to navigate this swiftly changing landscape. As one seeks influence in politics, the younger two are drawn into the dangerous, shadowy world of private security and militias. In the precarious new world that these three brothers navigate, J. M. Holmes offers a grim yet familiar future in which scarcity fuels resentment, resentment sparks extremism, and extremism ignites around the racial tensions of our present.

Villa Wintrebert

Banyuls-sur-Mer, French Catalonia: one hot summer in the 1970s, the lives of three generations of women converge in the long tropical garden hidden behind the Villa Wintrebert, named after the biologist who lived there with his wife. As in her debut After Nora (2024), Penelope Curtis deftly weaves fact and fiction in this moving story of childhood and of adult complicity. Harmony beween la belle Eugénie and the young Monique is disrupted when a well-intentioned commission to the renowned local sculptor, Aristide Maillol, shines a light on the fundamental fragility of the women’s relationship, on which the villa and its garden had depended. Decades later, Monique invites Eva and her two little girls into the villa, where traces of the past imprint themselves on the present.

Elin Anna Labba skúma osudy severných Sámov, ktorým do cesty vstúpili nové hranice, a narušili ich prirodzené migračné koridory. Preto v roku 1919 Švédsko a Nórsko uzavreli dohodu o obmedzení migrácie zvierat a ľudí medzi oboma krajinami. Takto vyzerá pozadie jednej z temnejších kapitol moderných severských dejín. S cieľom vykoreniť kočovné zvyky Sámov nariadili švédske úrady v rámci „dislokácie“ premiestnenie chovateľov sobov z ďalekého severu do južnejších oblastí. Elin Anna Labba zozbierala spomienky, fotografie, listy i úryvky z tradičných piesní – jojkov, aby skúsila vyrozprávať hlboký a osobný príbeh ľudí, ktorí prišli o všetko, no napriek tomu neprestali veriť, že raz znovu uvidia svoj domov. Kniha Páni nás sem presídlili vychádza v preklade Adriany Gondárovej.

Wild Reverence

Blockbuster bestseller Rebecca Ross returns to the world of international sensation Divine Rivals with her most epic story yet. Before Iris sat at her typewriter and before Enva sang her song, a young goddess wandered dreams… Born to the firelit domain of the underworld, Matilda is the youngest goddess of her clan, blessed with humble messenger magic. But in a land where gods kill each other for magic, Matilda must come of age sooner than most. She may be known to carry letters through the realms, but she also carries secrets of her own: one of them deadly, the other a mortal boy who dreams of her, despite the fact they have never met… Ten years ago, Vincent of Beckett wrote to Matilda on the darkest night of his life - begging the goddess he befriended in dreams for aid. But his prayer went unanswered, forever hardening his heart against the gods. That is until the same goddess comes tumbling through his window, bearing a letter to change both their destinies. For Matilda and Vincent are tangled together by threads of fate and the promise of a future beyond dreams, one that might rewrite the dark, blood-soaked ways of the gods…or end them.
