Služky pro všechno
Ještě nedávno se bez nich žádná lépe situovaná domácnost neobešla. Zatopit, nanosit
vodu, uvařit, nakoupit, vyprat – to všechno a mnohem více měly každý den na
starosti služky. Jejich těžká práce byla neviditelná. Podřízené postavení chudých žen
nikoho nenapadlo zpochybňovat. Možná, že právě vaše prababička podobně jako
stovky jiných dívek opustila svou početnou rodinu vesnici, aby jí ulehčila, a vydala se
do města zkusit štěstí.
Práce služky pro ni znamenala alespoň malou možnost si polepšit. Naučit se, jak se starat o
domácnost, ale také jak se chovat a pohybovat ve městě. Po cestě snila o tom, že si najde
ženicha, a třeba potom bude paní domu. Realita ale byla často o dost tvrdší. Už na nádraží
čekaly na nezkušená děvčata kuplířky, které jim nabízely docela jinou „službu“. Bez rizik ale
nebyly ani v domácnostech, kde jim hrozilo sexuální obtěžování a v případě těhotenství
vyhazov na ulici.
Praha, Krakov nebo Vídeň – ve všech středoevropských městech byla situace služek pro
všechno podobná. V domácnosti vstávaly první a poslední chodily spát, většinou neměly ani
kde se pohodlně a důstojně vyspat, umýt se nebo si nechat své osobní věci. K tomu těžká
práce bez volného času, malé výdělky a závislost na náladě paní domu. Teprve postupně
začaly vznikat spolky, které se snažily služebné vzdělávat nebo je chránit před nástrahami
velkoměst.
Dodnes málo víme o těchto skrytých dějinách zapomenutých služebných. Polské reportérce
Joanně Kuciel-Frydryszak se podařilo ve veřejných i rodinných archivech, dobovém tisku
nebo různých publikacích objevit perličky, díky nimž si dokážeme mnohem lépe představit,
jak asi skutečně vypadal život služek. Zaznamenala některé z dnešního pohledu až
anekdotické rady, jak se má služka chovat a oblékat, stížnosti hospodyň, autentické
inzeráty nebo články z černé kroniky. Dojemné jsou dopisy, které dokládají, že existovaly i
