Název vzpomínek básníka, prozaika a písničkáře Jana Buriana (nar. 26. března 1952) Co jsem nezapomněl naznačuje jistou spřízněnost s jeho starším textem Rychle než to zapomenu. V letech 1982 až 1985 si Jan Burian psal soukromé zápisky, které vydal v samizdatu. S ohledem na skutečnost, že se text mohl dostat do ruky komukoliv, musel autor leccos vynechat, aby nezpůsobil řadě lidí problémy s tehdejší státní mocí. Také - jak přiznal po letech - se občas soustředil na něco, co už ztratilo význam, a některé věci v oné době viděl jinak, třeba i trochu mělce. Útlá knížka končila rozpadem někdejší folkové dvojice Burian-Dědeček a oficiálně vyšla až roku 1990 jako první svazek edice Traverza v nakladatelství Scéna.
Po pětatřiceti letech se Jan Burian k těmto vzpomínkám vrátil, doplnil je a podstatně rozšířil, zejména o autentické zápisky z osmdesátých let, z radostné doby, kdy se hroutil režim. Doby, která už byla popsána například z pohledu disidenta, politika nebo úředníka, ovšem tentokrát jde pro změnu o pohled písničkáře. Text knihy opisuje oblouk od dětství a dospívání na Hradčanech v rodině divadelníka E. F. Buriana přes hledání vlastní umělecké cesty v husákovském Československu až k otevření nových možností po listopadu 1989, kdy Janu Burianovi začala být zavedená role písničkáře s klavírem těsná. Koláž Burianova vyprávění, dobových zápisků a citací nejrůznějších dokumentů končí rokem 1992; chystaný druhý díl se soustředí na autorovy zážitky, postřehy a tvorbu od devadesátých let až po současnost.
