Netypická monografia významného spisovateľa, ktorý má aj na Slovensku svojich verných čitateľov. Bärbel Reetz – skúsená autorka životopisov sa zamerala nielen na Hesseho tvorbu a život, ale najväčší dôraz v jej knihe hrajú ženy v blízkosti Hesseho – manželky, milenky, priateľky. Spisovateľ bol o sebe presvedčený, že sa do manželského vzťahu nehodí, vždy sa mu snažil vyhnúť, ale napriek tomu sa mu „podarilo“ oženiť trikrát. Pútavo napísaná monografia je teda rozdelená do troch častí, rámcovo oddelená manželstvami, ale autorka sa nevyhýba ani ďalším Hesseho známostiam a vzťahom. Čitateľ, ktorý pozná jeho diela, má konečne šancu lepšie ich pochopiť a tým aj samotného autora. Autorka sa však vôbec nesnaží Hesseho idealizovať, skôr naopak, občas je k nemu až prísna (napriek tomu, že ho vníma veľmi pozitívne) a prezrádza z jeho súkromia aj to nepríjemné a drsné. Na knihe je vidieť, že téme sa autorka venovala niekoľko rokov a dôkladne študovala dostupné archívy, konzultovala so znalcami, či žijúcou rodinou. Aj preto má publikácia množstvo dobových fotografií, menný index a kalendárium, ktoré sme prevzali z prvého nemeckého vydania (r. 2012). Preklad textu Elena Diamantová, preklad básní Marián Hatala. Lakonicky úsporné vyprávění oživují a probarvují střípky intimních vzpomínek a zážitky z cest, za nichž kromě rekreace získávali cenné podněty pro svou badatelskou práci.

Sušicko pohledem Marie Malé
Chci se s vámi podělit o moje postřehy z toulek po Sušici a jejím kouzelném okolí, města, které mě přijalo před mnoha lety za svého občana. Od dětství jsem byla zvyklá brouzdat se pěšinkami porostlými mechem, prochodit nespočet cestiček. V Sušici se to hemžilo davy lidí, které jsem vůbec neznala. Časem se vše srovnalo, ale přesto se mi stýskalo po mém rodném koutku Šumavy. Každou volnou chvíli jsem využívala k tomu, abych mohla dojít na nějaký kopec nad městem a zdálky spatřila moje "rodné hnízdlo". Časem jsem postupně procházela městem, četla každou tabulku na domech a objevovala jsem skrytá zákoutí na řece Otavě. Většinu volného času jsem věnovala poznávání sušických uliček, zajímaly mě pamětihodnosti a začala jsem více pátrat po historii města. Zkuste i vy, milí návštěvníci, objevovat krásná místa, která popisuji, stojí za shlédnutí! Nemusíte vše zdolávat pěšky - do téměř všech popisovaných míst vedou silničky a cestičky. Biľak – zradca a kolaborant?
Vasil Biľak (1917-2014). Životný príbeh vyučeného krajčíra, kariérneho komunistického straníka a verného súdruha, ktorý počas svojho 50-ročného pôsobenia v radoch komunistickej strany zažil a spoluvytváral všetky jej politické vzostupy a dramatické prehry – ilegálne pôsobil v rokoch druhej svetovej vojny, zúčastnil sa v bojoch počas SNP, po vojne pomáhal budovať stranícky aparát a cestu k moci, zažil krvavé obdobie stalinizmu s masovými perzekúciami skutočných aj domnelých odporcov v 50. rokoch až po liberalizáciu 60. rokov, kedy sa formoval ako politik otvorený demokratizácii a podporujúci Dubčeka. Pre väčšinu spoločnosti bol vlastizradca a prosovietsky kolaborant, pre dogmatických komunistov bol zásadový politik, ktorý v roku 1968 pomohol „zachrániť výdobytky socializmu“. V období normalizácie bol hlavný ideológ a šedá eminencia KSČ. Po novembri 1989 a páde komunistického režimu definitívne stratil vplyv v strane. Utiahol sa do súkromia svojej vily, z ktorého vychádzal iba na súdne prejednávania – obvinenia z vlastizrady za podpísanie tzv. pozývacieho listu v auguste 1968. Súdny proces bol ukončený bez vynesenia rozsudku v januári 2011.
