Autor se narodil ve vesničce Pavlovo na Podkarpatské Ukrajině v Československu, kde začíná jeho životní příběh o tom, jak se z židovského chlapce, který přežil Osvětim a Buchenwald, stal jeden z nejvyhledávanějších krejčích v Americe.
