Zborník Jezuita JUDr. František Paňák SJ - apoštol Košíc predstavuje životné osudy predsedu slovenského študentského spolku Detvan v Prahe, jezuitu, politického väzňa a v záznamoch ŠtB evidovanej "nepriateľskej osoby".
Jeho životný príbeh začína v Oravskom Podzámku v roku 1908. Pokračuje štúdiom na slovenských i francúzskych gymnáziách, kde sa stretáva napr. aj s perzským šachom Mohammadom Rezá Pahlaví. V Prahe získava titul JUDr. a neskôr pôsobí ako organizačný referent v Matici slovenskej v Martine. V roku 1938 zanecháva dovtedajší spôsob života a nastupuje do noviciátu Spoločnosti Ježišovej (jezuiti). Ako mladý jezuita vplýval aj na formáciu mladého študenta gymnázia, neskoršieho lekára Silvestra Krčméryho v meste pod Urpínom (Banská Bystrica). Neskôr pôsobil ako kňaz v Handlovej i v Bratislave.
S nástupom komunistického režimu začína obdobie prenasledovania a väzenia. Jeho spoluväzňami boli spisovateľ Rudolf Dobiáš i filozof Ladislav Hanus. Neskôr pracuje ako lesný robotník na Orave. Od roku 1968 až do odchodu na večnosť v roku 1997 pôsobil ako kaplán v Košiach v Dóme sv. Alžbety. Pochovaný je v Ružomberku.
V úvodnej časti publikácie (zborníka) jeho životný profil popisujú historici a pamätníci. Nasleduje séria autentických dokumentov v podobe článkov Františka Paňáka napísaných pod viacerými pseudonymami. Vďaka zachovalým listom z rodinných archívov môžeme spoznávať Františka Paňáka a jeho záujem o blízku rodinu, a to už od jeho študentských čias v Levoči, až po posledné obdobie života v Košiciach. Nechýba bohatý dokumentačný a obrazový materiál z rodinných archívov, archívov v Martine, v Prahe i z archívu ÚPN v Bratislave.
František Paňák je považovaný za jednu z najvýraznejších osobností metropoly východného Slovenska v časoch normalizácie. Nazývajú ho Anjelom, či Apoštolom Košíc. Svojimi postojmi ovplyvnil viacero osobností, zvlášť kňazov košickej diecézy, no rovnako aj rehoľníkov a rehoľníčky, laikov i politikov.
