A könyv eredetileg a magyar konyha iránt érdeklődő külföldi szakácsok és háziasszonyok részére íródott, s így lehetséges, hogy a mai hazai Olvasók számára talán csalódást okoz majd. De a külföldre szakadt hazánkfiainak a legegyszerűbb ételek leírása is lényeges, és az éppen főzni tanuló honleányok részére is nélkülözhetetlen. Az átdolgozás során egyes receptek kimaradtak, viszont bekerült az elmúlt években elterjedt néhány új étel receptje. S így a könyv lényegében a mai konyhánkat leginkább jellemző fogások leírását tartalmazza, kiegészítve a Gundel család tagjainak kreációival.
