Skrze tzv. aktérskou perspektivu se mimo jiné snaží ukázat, že Titovi nástupci byli daleko mnohovrstevnatěji uvažující a jednající politici, než se dosud převážně uvádělo. Tímto způsobem chce kniha přispět k odlišnému pohledu na jugoslávskou realitu z přelomu sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let, která sice vykazovala známky prohlubující se krize a celé řady dalších problémů, rozhodně ale nebyla jen prostým „tancem nad propastí“.

V období švédské fáze třicetileté války sehrávala řeka Odra velmi důležitou úlohu pro znepřátelené armády, a to jak na pomořanském území u jejího ústí, tak po obou březích proti proudu přes braniborskou Novou Marku až do nitra zemí Koruny české. Už na konci Dánské války správně vyhodnotilo císařské velení v čele s Valdštejnem možný směr švédského úderu a proti hrozícímu nebezpečí bezodkladně rozvinulo veškeré vojenské aktivity k obraně pomořanského a meklenburského pobřeží, aby znemožnilo vylodění nového protivníka.
