Pope Francis and Mercy
This theological study examines how Pope Francis lives out mercy in his own Petrine ministry and calls for it to be lived out by the people of God. The centerpiece of Pope Francis's pontificate from the very first days has been his proclamation of the importance of the mercy of God. While facing global problems of climate change, terror, political destabilization, refugees, and dire poverty, the Holy Father has articulated the mission of the Church through mercy, love, and forgiveness to reveal the compassion of God for all and particularly for those most vulnerable existing on the margins of society. In this compelling study, Gill Goulding, CJ, examines for the first time the critical and determinative role of mercy in Francis's papacy using his homilies, allocutions, encyclicals, and addresses as primary sources. Goulding traces the theme of mercy in Francis's thought, attending to its Ignatian foundations and its Christological, Trinitarian, and ecclesiological significance for the Church today, particularly the impact of his reappropriation and elevation of the discourse of mercy on the work of the Curia in Rome. Goulding enters into dialogue with other theologians, including Romano Guardini, Walter Kasper, and Hans Urs von Balthasar, to demonstrate a continuity between Francis and his predecessors, especially Benedict XVI, in this area of mercy. In addition, Goulding argues that the influence of St. Ignatius Loyola, in particular his Spiritual Exercises, needs to be taken into account, paying special attention to Francis's call for the practice of discernment. Throughout Pope Francis and Mercy, Goulding lays the groundwork for future research and suggests a wider appreciation of the necessary tools to enable an engagement with mercy in our contemporary world.

Sú témy pre Cirkev natoľko podstatné, že je potrebné neustále o nich uvažovať a hlbšie do nich prenikať. Ak nám Druhý vatikánsky koncil predstavuje Eucharistiu ako prameň a vrchol života Cirkvi, tak sa Eucharistia stáva tou najpodstatnejšou z nich.
Kniha, ktorú držíte v rukách sa snaží pripomenúť pravdu o Eucharistii, ktorú Cirkev od svojho počiatku verila, vyznávala a nepretržite odovzdávala ďalej. Jaroslav Rindoš vo svojich veľmi poctivo spracovaných a odôvodnených postrehoch k slovenskému vydaniu Rímskeho misála musí konštatovať, že, v rozpore s jasnými inštrukciami pápeža Františka, slovenské vydanie misála lipne na vonkajšej forme na úkor zmyslu a obsahu. Takto pripravený preklad je i v rozpore s Františkovými vyjadreniami počas jeho návštevy na Slovensku. Na viacerých miestach sa až otrocky drží latinského originálu namiesto toho, aby odrážal umenie tvoriť novú „abecedu“ a vyjadrovať sa rečou blízkou srdcu, jazyku a pochopeniu nášho človeka. Namiesto jednoznačnej zásady - uvádzať do liturgie živý jazyk, prispôsobený chápaniu ľudu -, ktorá platí od Druhého vatikánskeho koncilu až po pontifikát pápeža Františka, vedenie Cirkvi na Slovensku sa pri vydaní misála dalo zlákať do slepých uličiek, ktoré razili kritici liturgickej pokoncilovej reformy. Bude na Slovensku ochota vyjsť z týchto uličiek a vydanie misála opraviť?

The book of Numbers has had something of a renaissance in scholarly engagement in recent years - and this careful and contemporary commentary by Altmann and Peres distils that conversation with sensitivity and rigour. The joint nature of this commentary by two authors from different contexts helps to illuminate Numbers for the contemporary reader, as it seeks to make God's word a source of blessing, nourishment and hope for all. The Tyndale Old Testament Commentary is designed to help the reader of the Bible understand what the text of the book of Numbers says and what it means. The Introduction to this commentary gives a concise but thorough treatment of its authorship, date, original setting and purpose. Vzácny klenot kresťanskej spokojnosti
Jeremiah Burroughs (1599 – 1646) bol absolventom Emmanuel College, Cambridge, a štyri roky bol „učiteľom“ anglického zhromaždenia v Rotterdame v Holandsku, kam utiekol pred prenasledovaním zo strany anglikánskeho biskupa Lauda v 30-tych rokoch 17. storočia. Po svojom návrate z exilu v roku 1641 sa stal „kazateľom evanjelia“ v dvoch najväčších zhromaždeniach v Anglicku, v Stepney a v Cripplegate (Londýn). Odôvodnene je mu priznávané miesto v prednej línii anglických puritánskych kazateľov, čo sa prejavilo aj v jeho významnom vplyve na Westminsterské zhromaždenie, z ktorého vzišli najvýznamnejšie reformované protestantské vyznania viery. Burroughs však zomrel predtým, ako mohol vidieť ovocie práce odvedenej na tomto zhromaždení.
Burroughsove písomnosti, ktoré boli niektoré publikované pred a niektoré po jeho smrti, sú veľmi početné, no Vzácny klenot kresťanskej spokojnosti patrí k najcennejším z nich. Autor tohto diela sa po celý život usiloval o dve veci: 1. pokoj medzi veriacimi rôznych presvedčení, 2. pokoj a spokojnosť v srdciach jednotlivých veriacich v tom, čo označil slovami „táto smutná doba úpadku“. Vzácny klenot sa zameriava na jeho druhý cieľ. Vyznačuje sa triezvosťou, jasnosťou, výstižnosťou ilustrácií a vrúcnosťou apelu na srdce. „Existuje koráb, do ktorého môžete vojsť, a niet takých ľudí na svete, ktorí môžu žiť tak pokojné, radostné a spokojné životy, ako deti Božie.“ Burroughs vyzdvihuje túto lekciu so všetkou naliehavosťou a presvedčivosťou pravého a verného Božieho služobníka.
